Sora expected her morning to start like any other, with her waking up alone in her bed and wandering downstairs to get her coffee. But even though she was very strong, she couldn't make herself get out of bed.
After attempting to move her body a few more times, she gave up and let herself stay in bed. While she sighed and tried to relax her body, she noticed two things: her body was cold, but her mind was warm and headachy. It felt painful, but there was nothing she thought she was able to do about it.
Half an hour went by, and Sora didn't go downstairs. As she continued to lay in bed, she heard footsteps coming up the stairs and the door slowly creak open. As small footsteps drew closer, Sora inwardly mused how she's need to get the door hinges oiled soon.
"Sora? You're not asleep?" she heard Kanade ask above her. As she looked up at her girlfriend, Kanade seemed to notice something and softened her tone. "Are you feeling alright, Sora?"
"Ngh... My head hurts, that's all," Sora tried to explain, but she fell quiet when she felt the smaller woman put a hand on her forehead. She closed her eyes and relaxed into the cooling touch.
Kanade drew her hand back with a worried expression. "It feels like your temperature's higher than normal..." she fretted. "And with your head hurting and not getting out of bed, I think you have a fever. Poor thing."
"A fever? That would explain it," Sora groaned, but she was quickly shushed by the guitarist.
"Hey, let's not talk for now, alright? Everything will be fine, let Kanade take care of everything. I'll make you all better," she smiled, and Sora recognized her tone as the same one she used to calm her sister whenever she was distressed. She watched Kanade go to the door and turn off the light with a smile. "I'll go get your medicine, you sit tight, alright?"
Kanade closed the door and began heading down the stairs to the kitchen. Her smile fell from her face as she thought of the white-haired girl in bed, suffering from some cold or other illness. A human's body temperature increases to fight off illnesses, Kanade knew this well.
When she arrived at the kitchen, she suddenly remembered that Hibiki had wanted them to go to a café today. Not bothering to hide her grumbling yet, she got out her phone and dialled her sister's contact. She moved her phone so she could hold it between her ear and shoulder while she went to the drug cabinet.
"Hey, Sis? I'm not going to be able to go to the café today," Kanade spoke into the receiver, hearing her sister reply angrily to that. "I-I'm sorry, but I can't go- Sora is sick," she managed to interrupt the incoming tirade. "Yeah, she's sick with a fever. She isn't getting out of bed, and she's in pain too... I'm glad you understand. Yes, I'll stay home and take care of her, don't worry! Just let Kanade handle it!"
She finally hung up the phone after cancelling her plans with Hibiki, and she let out a sigh of relief. She didn't really want to go to that café anyway, they served terrible food, but Hibiki thought it was good for some reason.
Her phone went back into her pocket, and Kanade took out a medicine cup and poured out some cold medicine. She put the bottle back and took the cup with her up the stairs as she returned to Sora's room.
She opened the door again and found that Sora hadn't moved an inch from her bed. "You didn't move. Good girl. I brought some medicine for your illness," she greeted with a soft voice, keeping a smile on her face. "You can go to sleep after you drink this."
She handed Sora the medicine cup and watched as the girl drank it down. Kanade took the cup back once it was empty, and saw Sora rub her forehead. "Even with the medicine, my head hurts too much to go to sleep. I can deal with the cold, but..." The white-haired girl cut herself off with a yawn.
Kanade's smile faded, she should have predicted that Sora would be a bit stubborn. But there was a quick way to solve that problem, even if it required a bit of trickery. "Would you at least like some coffee then? Warm things are good for your body, and it'll help the medicine get into your bloodstream faster?" she suggested.
"Yes, that sounds great. I'm sorry for making you go back and forth between places," Sora apologized.
"It's alright! Let me get that coffee for you," the guitarist replied, running back down the stairs with a plan in her head. While she had some americano coffee brewing in the coffee machine, Kanade went back to the drug cabinet and took out a sleeping pill.
It wasn't the first time she had used them before, she made sure to crush the pill until it was small enough to dissolve in liquid easily. As she expected, pouring in the hot liquid and stirring it around made the pieces gradually disappear. When she was sure that it wasn't noticeable anymore, she brought it back up to Sora.
The white-haired girl drank her coffee happily and handed it back to her girlfriend. "Thank you, Kanade. Sorry for the trouble," she told her once again. Sora laid her head back on her pillow and rubbed her head again.
"Here, I'm going to close the blinds for you. Could you close your eyes while you're like that at least? The dark relieves headaches," Kanade told her. While she was telling the truth, she actually wanted the sleeping pill to kick in without Sora being aware of it.
She closed the blinds, pulled the sheets up more around Sora and found another blanket to out on top, then took the coffee cup back down to the kitchen before returning. Before she could ask if Sora wanted anything else, he heard the girl's breathing and realized that she had fallen asleep by now. The pill had worked quicker than expected.
"...Cute," Kanade purred, looking down at the sleeping girl's face. Despite her sarcastic and witty exterior, Sora was both kind and pretty, even someone like Kanade could admit that. After taking another look at her girlfriend's face, she left the room and closed the door to let Sora sleep.
