Work Text:
The rain was pouring.
Jason didnt really mind the rain most of the time, but him and Donnie had just gotten back from a particularly bad fight with a mutant, and the rain didnt exactly help with his exhaustion.
It was just supposed to be a simple day in the junkyard. Go in, get parts, get out. Stupidly enough they forgot about the cat-mantis mutant constantly stalking around the area, looking for human and mutant sized food. Lucky for him donnie had taken most of the hits, protecting him as much as possible (why did he get all tingly at that thought?), but his battleshell had gotten scraped up in the process. With Jason's house being closest to the junkyard, they decided to head there for the night.
As they neared the entrance to his house, Jase paused in his thoughts when he heard a voice from behind him. "So you're sure they wont see or hear us sneaking in?" Donnie asked, folding his arms in an attempt to gain warmth.
"Please, they barely care about me sneaking in. You'll be fine." He assured him, opening the door as quietly as possible. They tiptoed in, looking around the house, before going up the stairs to the 2nd floor.
"I'll go get towels," Jason said. "You can head into my room in the meantime." Donnie nodded, opening the door. When Jase came back, two towels in hand, he noticed his friend had taken the battleshell off. Donnie had his goggles over his eyes, clearly focused on repairing the damage. Thats when he saw it.
"Softshell..." he murmured.
"Huh?" Donnie asked in confusion, putting up his goggles, turning his head to face him.
"I mean- I just noticed- You’re a softshell thats all! I’m sorry, you’ve never taken the shell off before and i meant no offense-" He stammered, in a foolish attempt to save himself. Stupid, this is why no one wants him to talk.
"Oh. Yeah, uh.. I am. Its okay, dont worry." Donnie said, going back to his work. He shivered slightly, still wet.
"Oh here- i got the towels." Jason said, handing him a towel. Donnie took it, without looking up. "Thank you." Jase sat down, drying himself up. "Don’t mention it." He said.
When he was as dry as he could get, he took another look at donnies shell. It had a huge sideways scar on the side, from what he didn’t know. There were also odd swirly marks going down. He narrowed his eyes. He did tell him he fused with that alien ship, maybe it was a mark? He was pulled out of his thoughts when he heard a voice.
"I can see you staring, ya'know." Donnie said, glancing at him from the side, with a small smile. "Wh- No! I was just distracted- i wasn’t staring!" He turned around quickly, a feeling of embarrasment taking over. He hated the fact his friend was a highly trained ninja sometimes.
Donnie went silent for a moment, contemplating something. "..You can touch, if you want." He said quietly, fiddling with his hands.
"Huh?" Jase turned around, confused.
Donnie looked back to his battleshell on the floor. "If you want to touch my shell, you can. I don’t mind." He spoke in such a low voice, he'd think he didn’t want him to hear it.
Jason was flabbergasted, to say the least. He knew Donnie didn’t like touch. Hugs, handholding, even just an arm around his shoulder was enough to make him uncomfortable. Why was he suddenly letting Jason?
Did donnie really trust him that much?
Slowly, he made his way over to the turtle. He lifted his hand up, hesitating at first, and put his hand on his shell. He could see donnie flinching from the touch, then relaxing. He moved his hand down gently. The texture was soft and bumpy, but rough in the scarred parts. "How did.. If i can ask, the scars-" Jason asked, before being cut off.
"-The first was the shredder." Donnie said quickly. "His claws went straight through my battleshell, didn’t notice how bad it actually was till’ the fight was over. Leo says it looks badass though." He said with a smile.
Jason winced. He'd heard about the shredder attack, but he didnt know how powerful the monster really was. To get torn apart like that sounds painful. "And.. the other ones?" He asked, hand touching the swirly ones. They looked new.
Donnie went still, as if just thinking about it was too awful. "..Kraang. Their ship, the technodrone. In order to hack into it i had to merge with the ship itself. So Mikey took off my battleshell, and i let it take over. That part was disgusting, but being the ship was way more fun."
"Woah.." He rubbed his thumb over the scars. Donnie made a small noise. "What is it?" He asked.
"Uh- nothing, it’s just- could you rub more? It feels.. nice." He mumbled. Was that a blush he saw? Jase smiled, obliging. "Alright, dork." He rubbed his hand along the shell, and donnie slumped forward so much he thought he was gonna fall. "Don? Dee, you there?" Jase asked with a grin. "Hmm, 'wazzat?" He replied with a relaxed smile, half asleep at this point. For a self proclaimed 'Emotionally unavailable bad boy', he sure didn’t act like one.
Jason checked the time on his phone, 00:00 am. Oh dang, they'd been here alot longer than intended. Seems like Donnie would have to say here for the night. "Alright Don, im gonna lift you onto my bed alright?" He would have to sleep on the floor for tonight, it seems.
"..Hm? Yeah, 'aight Jay." He slurred. He was so adorable when he was sleepy, all of his walls dissapearing at once. Jason shook his head, focusing at the task at hand. He put his arm around his waist, and donnies arm around his neck, helping him stand. He found himself struggling, curse this mutant turtles abnormal height.
Once they'd made their way to his bed, and donnie was tucked in, when jase was about to grab his blankets, he felt a two fingered hand tug at his arm. He turned around, confused. "Stay with me, Jay?" He a felt a blush creep onto his face. It would be better than sleeping on the floor.. "..Okay."
Jason climbed into the bed, laying sideways, now facing his friend. Their faces were inches away from eachother. "Donnie, why did you let me touch your shell earlier..? And this- You hate touching." He found himself asking.
Donnie took Jases hand in his, slowly linking them together. Jase's eyes widened, but he kept them locked on Donnie. "..I trust you. I've never trusted anyone this much.. you're- you're special to me." he near whispered. Jason opened his mouth to speak, but was interrupted by the soft snoring of his friend.
He laughed to himself, smiling.
Othello Von Ryan was something else.
