Work Text:

Cecil was a quiet man who rarely showed his skin. He spoke into his microphone and didn't need to pretend. He went outside and wore a mask to hide away his sin.

Night Vale was quiet at night, somehow despite its name. Cecil walked home under the moon and glowed with eerie light.

When Carlos said he loved Cecil, he knew in his heart it was true. He watched the creature he'd grown to love hide his eyes from everyone else. He held his hand and waited for the dark to fall.

Night Vale never wondered what it was like to have a god. They didn't have to. The man on the radio told them they were okay, and they didn't ask questions. The banned Bibles in the library never felt a human touch.

Carlos and Cecil lay together in bed. Hands and mouths moved as one, holding and kissing and exchanging breaths. They touched and danced until they couldn't walk.

Night was magical, and then it was morning, and Carlos woke up with Cecil already gone. The scientist tied his necklace and left for work. He never asked how his lover could leave so silently, even though they held each other in sleep.

Carlos's lunch appeared when it was tims, like it always did. Cecil told him on the radio what was on his sandwich. "I love you, Carlos," he finished, and Carlos blushed.

Cecil never asked to have sex, and Carlos didn't either. Their skin glowed and tattoos bloomed with all their favorite flowers. Cecil's cactus blooms stretched for hands they couldn't touch.

"I think," Carlos said, his hands woven in purple hair, "that I love you."

"Oh," Cecil said, and the stars flared bright. "I know I love you."

"Thank you." Carlos's black ring glowed in Cecil's third eye.

Cecil walked home from the station alone. He held Carlos under the sheets. He stood outside the walls of the dog park. He showed no one else his face.
