The Night Before

Summary:

Class 1-A emotionally prepare for the Liberation War. Some should be thinking of the war instead 16 years olds can't help thinking about if they were to die, what would they regret. That would be not confessing their feelings to the person they loved.

No spoilers in this.

Work Text:

The 1-A dorm was usually filled with laughter and joy. They would share many laughs. They would sprawl across the couch and each other. They would make jokes at other expenses and they would enjoy every minute that would past by.

But today, this was not the case because for these 16 years old they would be going to war tomorrow. These 16 years old were ready to be heroes. They were dying to be heroes but as their teachers words echoed into their minds they all secretly wished tomorrow never came.

'Now everyone will play an important part in the mission tomorrow - That includes you Bakugou. We will end class early so you mentally prepare yourselves for what is to come. For some of you may not make it. Some of you may lose your lifes. Some of you will lose people you love. The pros will do all we can to take the burden but there is so many unknowns to factor in and tomorrow you may die. But do remember that you have been exceptional and I am so proud of each and everyone of you’

With these thoughts in everyones mind, Mina Ashido was the first to break down. She was the first to cry. She gripped Kaminari's arm as he sat closest to her.

"Please don't die," she begged, tears streaming down her face. "Please come back to us Denki," She cried into his chest. Her outburst started many others. Sero, Shoji, Uraraka, Yayarozou, Mineta, Koda, Kaminari all buurst into tears, their faces buried in their hands. Many others went to hug their devastated friends. Everyone needing someone to console them.

"I'll do my best," Kaminari promised a heavy lump in his throat. He took her hand and offered a tight squeeze. Everyone was terrified even if they pretended they were not. Even if their eyes were dry, every single one of them had a pounding heart, a stomach that felt like lead, a body that was on vibrate. Every. Single. One.

With this chance of death, they thought about how they should leave this world. Do they want to go without regrets. This was Bakugou's thoughts as Kirishima excused himself.

He followed after him, finding him in his room and holding a pillow close to his chest. Bakugou hesitated at the door before slowly closing the distance between them. He took a seat beside him on the bed and put an arm around his waist and pulling him close to his body.

Kirishima wrapped his arms around Bakugou's neck and cried heavily into his chest. The blonde raised a hand to his hair and stroked his head softly. He let out a small exhale.

"Look…Ei…if I don't make it…,"

Kirishima raised his head, a deep scowl on his face, "Don't talk like that Katsuki," he yelled at him.

Bakugou let out another sigh, "Ei, please," Kirishima looked down, unable to face his closest friend. Bakugou took a deep breath again. He was shaking and he knew Kirishima could feel it. He reached forward and lifted his best friends head with a curled finger.

“Ei…if I don’t make it. I love you. Okay? I have been in love with you since the sports festival. I don’t want my last thoughts to be how I was never honest with you,” Bakugou’s cheeks were bright red, his words soft.

Kirishima stared at him for a second taking in what he was saying. A smile formed on his lips and then he leaned in and kissed him. The kiss was soft and delicate, both males holding onto each other, fearful for what would happen tomorrow. “I love you too Katsuki. I didn’t want my feelings to ruin our friendship,” Bakugou buried his face into his neck and inhaled sharply.

“Please don’t die, Ei. I can’t lose you,” because when the boys woke up the following day, they wouldn’t see each other until the war was finished. And neither was wanting the war to finish and see their body in the body bag, to be told that he was one of the dead. Kirishima held onto Bakugou even tighter at the thought, terrified. They shared another kiss and then another and then another. Kirishima was pushing Bakugou onto the sheets to deepen the kiss. He was not going to lose him. He needed to portray how much he meant to him.

Bakugou moved his hands to his waist to deepen the kiss. They needed each other.

Midoriya sat with Todoroko on the couch. There was still so many of 1-A in the common room, all of them somber. The news was on but no one was watching. No one knew what would happen tomorrow. It was going to be an ambush. The weather girl reported it to be a dry day. Little did she know that the dry pavements would be carved with blood of their own comrades. Sero was resting on the couch with Ashido, his head resting on her shoulder as tears trickled down his face. Sero was drawing soothing circles with his thumb as he gripped his best friends hand. She would squeeze his hand tightly. Her nails digging into his hand as tears streamed down.

Midoriya looked around the room to see everyone somber. He looked to the male that sat beside him, to the male he had fallen in love with. He should be thinking about the war tomorrow. He should be thinking about all the possibilities. He should be training. Instead he thought about how he should tell Todoroki, that he was in love with him. He sat there, their hands interlocked. He could feel Todoroki shaking as well in fear. He tightened on his grasp on him.

“Todoroki?” the male turned to look at him. He was beautiful. He had fallen in love with how hard he tried to make his quirk his own. How caring he was as a person. How resilient and reliable he was. “I think that I-”

As he began Todoroki’s phone rang, “Hold that thought,” Todoroki answered his phone.

“Father?” he said standing up. He offered a small nod to Midoriya before stepping out. Midoriya never saw Todoroki the rest of the night. He had retreated to his room and had been on the phone with his father and his family for the rest of the night. Midoriya and Todoroki were on evacuating the city together so he would have a chance to tell him how much he loved him. He decided that after the war, he would grab Todoroki by the collar and kiss him. For now, he would need to put his love on hold and get his priorities straight. He needed to focus on the war and his duties.

Kaminari had ducked away for five minutes, saying that he needed air. Instead he was walking towards 1-C and watched as a figure stalked over to him. As he walked over to him, he rested his head on his shoulder and let the tears fall down his cheeks.

Strong arms wrapped around him as he cried. He could feel those strong hands, snake into his hair. There was no judgement. No questions. He had never felt so safe in his strong embrace. He was terrified. “I will come back and we can be in 2-A together,” Kaminari promised. “I will come back I promise.”

“Class 2-A will not be the same without you,” Kaminari looked up to his boyfriend. No one knew of their relationship. He looked to his lilac eyes and sniffed. He was brought into his arms again and he was held close. He was terrified for tomorrow. He was at the front, they needed his quirk. He was on the front lines. They needed him. He continued to shake in fear.

“I should go. I need to sleep,” Kaminari stepped away from the warm embrace and then felt a strong hand on his waist stop him. He turned his head to see Shinso staring at him, a soft smile on his lips.

“Come back to me. Okay. I love you,” Kaminari stared back at him, a blush creeping onto his face. He was pulled in for a chaste kiss where he muttered against his lips.

“I love you too.”

The sun slowly rose on a brand new day and everyone woke up with dread. Today they could lose someone they loved. For Bakugou who had slept in Kirishima’s arm he was ready to face the day knowing that he was loved. For Midoriya, he would tell Todoroki that he loved him. He was hopeful that they will see another day and then he would tell him that he loved him. For Kaminari he woke up, terrified of the day. He had someone waiting for him at home and he was going to do everything he could to return to his side. He would not die in battle. He would come back and his boyfriend would be in his class finally. They would fight side by side. Kaminari just needed to survive to see that day come into fruition.

For Aizawa, who walked into the 1-A dorm, he prayed that he would see all of his kids return. He prayed that he would make it out alive and would be able to see all of his beloved students succeed so that they will see them become pro-heros themselves as he retired with Mic.

“Let’s go everyone,”
