Merlin’s Poems of Grief

Summary:

A collections of short poems Merlin’s written about each of his friends, and those who should have been friends.

Notes:

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Chapter 1: Gwaine

Chapter Text

An apple orchard catches my eye
Tempting my platonic love
As in Eden it had Eve
I turn to him ready in playful banter to jest
Only to remember
He’s long since been laid to rest.

Chapter 2: Percival

Notes:

Not the best, but there isn’t really an order, except Gwen and Arthur being last.

Chapter Text

Sleeveless shirts and useless armor
Not meant to overthink
Daily things no one questions
A gentle giant is a trope
But my long gone friend
A brother in arms
Will be my first thought.

Chapter 3: Leon

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Fiery red a lion's mane
Not so rare but not so common
Back then he was an oddity
Fighter as strong as his namesake
I go to seek him for a plan
Only to remember
His death is how my sorrow began

Notes:

For clarity’s sake “sorrow began” is the idea that Leon died last, and Merlin had offricially outlived all his loved ones.

Chapter 4: Lancelot

Chapter Text

Star crossed lovers
The original
The legends forget the rest of him
I see his name used lots
Always getting my hopes up
He returned to me once
A shade of his former self
But long gone are the days
My friend could comfort me

Chapter 5: Elyan

Chapter Text

A crafter till the day he died
His trade nearly following him down
When I find a piece like his
It brings tears to my eyes
A useful art
He could wield the weapons made
A friend and brother
A blacksmith like no other

Chapter 6: Morgana

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

I lost her long before she was gone
A selfish mistake
Cost me a friend a confidant
Cost me one of the kindest women I knew
Darkness overcame her
Reduced to anger and hate
Caused lives ended before their time

Notes:

First line makes me the saddest, but it had to be done.

Chapter 7: Mordred

Chapter Text

One so young
Enduring such hardships
It was never fair
I should have been a mentor
Hand to guide him
Instead I feared a foretold future
And led to happen.

Chapter 8: Gwen

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

The original star crossed lovers
Is all she’s been reduced to
A strong woman
Physical and emotional
A bravery to admire
She overcame
My friend, sister, all but a lover
But to death she still subcame.

Notes:

Isn’t as good as I’d hoped but… it still makes me sad so I did something right.

Chapter 9: Arthur

Notes:

I very much waited for Arthur to be last on purpose. Hope you’ve enjoyed these little poems.

Chapter Text

Family in the strongest sense
The other side of my coin
Lover brother friend coworker
All at once, but none at all
He took my heart with him
And now I give it away to none
To protect him I’d give my life
One million times over
That would be a waste
As he is gone, has been for a while
I look to when he’s meant to return.

Notes:

Hope you liked it. I made myself sad. I may add Gaius latter, but for now its just the main gang.
