Arthur is enjoying watching the chaos unfold as Merlin attempts to remember what he was wearing on his head in the fifteenth century. Merlin’s pretty sure he had narrowly escaped another beheading at that point, so was less worried about what was on his head than he was about keeping it.
Merlin, wondering why he agreed to do this, decides fuck it, let's just tell these kids some stories. No one remembers what actually happened anyway, and perhaps the telling will help him.
No one is truly dead while their story's still told.
