Summary
Throughout five seasons and sixty-five episodes, we - and therefore Merlin - never once heard the actual prophecy that guided, led, and dragged our characters to their ends. There were quotes and excerpts, cliff notes and summaries, but never once the prophecy itself.
Merlin stood by Arthur’s side for more than a decade, working toward their shared future without ever once hearing the prophecy that foretold it.

As a child, Arthur didn’t know why he was kept away from the courtyard.
Or why it so often smelt… like that.
Until one morning, Sir Kay guided him to the balcony he’d only been allowed on sometimes. Only sometimes, because it looks over the courtyard.
His father was waiting for him, holding an arm out to beckon him closer. Arthur rushed in, latching himself onto his father’s side as it was so rarely permitted.
There was a crowd below him; he had never seen so many people in one place.
There was a pile of wood.
He remembers little outside of the way his eyes burned, how he at last understood that smell. He remembers forcing down his supper that night and emptying his stomach in the corridor before he could even reach his room.
Now he remembers it all.
He can’t feel the bruising stones under his knees, hardly tastes the leftover bile coating his mouth.
All he knows is the all-consuming realization that his greatest fear and anguish still holds the throne, even in his heart.

Summary
George places his cleaning tools aside and carefully stands in an appropriate position. It is improper for a servant to sit in the presence of a knight. Most improper. And George is nothing if not proper.
He waits to be spoken to, but the older gentleman seems to be pondering his words carefully. George has heard the man throw commands to his troops—has heard him say long, profound speeches to the court. He is a very intelligent man. Yet—standing in the middle of the head servants' quarters—in full armor, he stands mute.
A servant is not to speak unless spoken to.
Sir Leon looks…hesitant to speak. Perhaps it is something of a delicate nature.
“Sire?” George begins. “Is there something you require of me?”

Summary
It’s been three months since Arthur’s death.
