After over fifteen hundred years, he couldn't allow the tiniest spark of hope to take shape until he knew for sure. The parents of the brother and sister joining his class were likely history buffs with a passion for Arthurian legends and nothing more. Nothing more than another heartbreak, just like the last twenty he'd followed up on in almost as many decades. He checked to see his students were still working, before taking a moment to close his eyes and remember. Faces, voices, and scents ran through his mind, and he longed for them to be more than distant memories. Damn his lonely heart. It was such a glutton for punishment.
