Summary
No young man, no matter how great, or mystic can know his destiny. He cannot glimpse his part in the great story that is about to unfold. Like everyone, he must live and learn. And so, it will be for the young magic arriving at the gates of Camelot. A boy that will, in time, father the legend. His name: Merlin.
Or
A rewrite of Merlin if the writers weren’t cowards. A lot gayer, magic users aren’t the enemy in every single episode, and Uther is the actual villain of the story. Morgana is still a villain, but we have sympathy for her.

Summary
If serving Arthur was Merlin's destiny, then why was Morgana the one he felt inexorably drawn to?
Every time his thoughts followed this trail, he felt the press of the dragon’s prophecy, the beast's rasping words so potent it was as if they were etched into his skin like scales. Arthur was the one he was meant to serve. Arthur was the one who would make it safe for magic users to thrive once again in Camelot.
So why was it Morgana he couldn’t help but fixate on?

OR A Morgana-centric BBC Merlin rewrite in which Merlin doesn't blindly listen to Gaius and finds connection with Morgana amongst the dangers of Uther's court. Burdened by destiny but hounded by desire, Merlin navigates the treacherous path of fate. Morgana attempts to walk the righteous road but makes difficult, and often bad, choices in her quest for a just world.

What if Balinor had returned a couple of years after he left? What if Merlin had grown up with a father, knowing more about magic and Uther’s actions? What if he was more than happy to see Uther dead, so long as his destiny was fulfilled?
OR
Merlin grows up hating Uther and is more than happy to ignore the dragon and his yapping about his destiny.

“All by yourself?” Morgana asks when he steps into the clearing of trees, her face almost beautiful in the silvery moonlight. The air feels sacred, like holy ground. Blood should not be shed in such a place, but they’re both beyond the point where things such as holiness have any effect on them. "Where is your shadow?"

I am trying my best to stay on track with what actually happens in Merlin. However, there are *huge* empty spaces in-between seasons and episodes that I cannot, as a singular human, fill properly. Expect divergence from the canonical plot, including and not limited to Lancelot being alive (because I started writing without watching Merlin for a while and—hoo boy, the death of Lancelot is earlier than I thought).
