When Shamura found out there was a proficiency that Narinder could be released by a lamb, like the ones he used to paint on his church walls and make glass murals of, the rash decisions came bubbling back up again. Each of their siblings had their objects to their idea, but it never mattered to them.
The lambs will die and it is their choice how.
In Darkwood, Lord Leshy has taken the leisurely route of having a group of five people do it for him, armed with guns and told them to "figure it out" with his servant of 700 years.
And Ratau, also has his own group, sent by The One Who Waits himself, working tirelessly to herd as many lambs as they can to Sheppard them back to his camp ground on the outskirts of any bishop-ruled-region before the real action starts, however, perhaps they could have been faster as not to get stuck in Darkwood under the relentless hunting of Leshy's men.
All the while, a young lamb girl named Lucy, once a familiar name in here ransacked village, follows them with her family as she battles with the conflict of her beliefs about the world as she watches it actively change around her.

"The Nijiku Family, one of the most powerful, elite families on the Ground," Enjin says, glancing over at Gris and a panicked Follo tending the grill, "was massacred."
