Airbase Speedway was a rather unremarkable footnote in the history of Greenville, South Carolina. It was a 1/2 mile dirt track on Antioch Church road, right in outskirts of town. It only existed for a few years before the owner, Luther Charles Hicks, lost it all as he couldn't pay his loan for the track, and tried to take another out under false pretenses. Thusly, the "fastest 1/2 mile in the south" shut down.
But, to the youth of Greenville, South Carolina, the story hardly ended there.
