Chapter 1: Y/N's POV

Chapter Text

I was sitting at the bar with my boyfriend. Was I having fun? Absolutely not. Things with Todd have been getting out of hand lately. We were having more fights. He was losing his temper more. This outing was supposed to be his way to make amends but I could tell he was getting impatient with me.

"Hello? Earth to Y/N?"

"Sorry, Todd. Yes?"

"You didn't hear a single thing I said. Why the fuck do I even waste my time?"

"There's no need to raise your voice. I just zoned out for a second." I attempted to calm him down, looking around the bar to see if he was drawing attention. No one seemed to look our way except one person. He was sitting at the other end of the bar watching us with a strong intensity. We made eye contact. Turning my gaze from him I looked back at Todd.

"Don't tell me what to do, Y/N. You know I hate that." He slammed his beer down.

"You're right. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you."

He laughed condescendingly. "You know, I think you did. I think you enjoy it." He picked up the rest of his beer and gulped it down. "Come on, we're going home."

"But I'm not finished with my drink."

"Don't care. Let's go." He grabbed my arm tightly and pulled me off my stool.

"Ow, you're hurting me." I pulled my arm out of his hand.

"Move your ass." He pushed me towards the door.

I knew that when he got like this there was no point fighting him. I walked to the exit and turned to make eye contact one more time with that guy. He was staring at me, anger on his face. I gave him a sympathetic smile and then I walked out onto the street.

The walk to our apartment from the bar wasn't very far, that's probably why Todd chose it, so he could get drunk and not worry about driving. Out of nowhere he slapped me upside the head. I instinctively reached up to where he just hit me. "Todd, what the Hell. That hurt!"

"Well pay attention when I'm talking to you."

I looked at him, tears forming in my eyes. I was never going to be good enough for him. "I'm sorry. Sometimes I just get distracted."

"It's fucking ridiculous, Y/N." He went to hit me again when a hand reached out and grabbed his wrist.

"Don't. Hit her. Again."

Todd spun around to see who got in his way. "Dude, butt out."

"No, I don't think I will." The man quickly sucker punched Todd in the face knocking him to the ground unconscious. He turned his attention to me. "Are you okay?"

I looked at the man. It was the guy from the bar. "Yeah, I'm okay. Thank you."

He pursed his lips. "I was watching you both. In the bar. I didn't like how he was treating you."

I gave him a slight smile. "Well, not many people would have stepped in and did what you did. I appreciate it."

"Do you live with him?"

My heart sank. "Yes. Yes I do. Todd, he's my boyfriend."

"Can you get a hotel for the night?"

I shook my head. "I don't have my purse. It's back at the apartment."

"I can walk you there so you can grab it, and maybe pack a bag?"

I looked down at Todd. "What about him?"

"Leave him."

"Listen Mr. Stranger Dude. He may be a raging douche canoe, but he doesn't deserve to be laying cold on the street."

The guy laughed. "Mr. Stranger Dude?"

I shrugged my shoulders. "You haven't told me your name."

"It's Bucky."

"Nice to meet you, Bucky."

Bucky looked down at Todd. "Okay, let's go." He bent down and threw Todd over his shoulder. "I'll follow you?"

"Uh, okay." We walked in silence for two blocks until we came across an apartment complex. "This is me." We walked through the doors and up to our complex. I entered the passcode for our door. I pointed to the couch. "You can just throw Todd right there."

Bucky tossed him off of his shoulder and Todd hit the couch with a thud. I ran into our shared bedroom and collected all of my necessities. I then went to the bathroom and closet and did the same thing. Bucky was standing at the doorway waiting for me.

"Ready?"

I nodded. "Ready." We left the apartment and began walking down the street. "So were you drinking alone tonight?"

"Yeah, I like to clear my head after a long day."

I pointed at his hands. "You a germ-a-phobe?"

"Huh?"

"The gloves."

He looked down and squeezed his fists. "Yeah, I guess you could say that."

I could tell that he wasn't going to offer up any other information so we walked in silence. I pulled out my phone and began googling hotels that I could go to.

"What are you doing?"

"Looking for a place to stay."

He nodded as if he already knew the answer. "You never told me your name."

"Y/N. My name's Y/N."

"Y/N."

My heart got butterflies. For some reason when he said my name it made me nervous.

"You're blushing."

"It's cold."

He laughed. "No it's not."

"Whatever Bucky." I playfully pushed him.

We walked for a few more blocks until we came across a 4 star hotel that I found on Google. "Uh, so this is me. Thank you for helping a complete stranger tonight." I smiled at him and walked through the doors to the lobby. I heard him running in after me.

"Uh, Y/N?"

I turned to face him. "Yes, Bucky?"

"Can we exchange phone numbers? Just in case you need me."

I smiled. "Just in case I need you." I gave him my phone number and he called my cell so that I had his.

"Have a good night, Y/N."

I nodded my head and watched him leave. "You too, Bucky."
