Work Text:
Your eyes open slowly. Something is different. You feel… cold. You didn't used to feel this cold. Wait, how do you know that? Can you even remember anything? It doesn't seem like it, and yet you feel like you were warmer before.
As your view comes into focus, your gaze settles on the woman in front of you wearing a large, pointed hat. She's staring off into the distance, but after a moment she glances at you and jumps slightly. After the brief moment of surprise, her face melts into a relieved smile. "Ah! You're finally up! It was taking so long, I thought something might have gone wrong, which wouldn't have been a huge surprise considering how far gone you were and how long I had to leave you in the heart while I worked on your body, but obviously it would still be just AWFUL if that had been-" She stops when she notices that you're looking around and blinking in confusion. "Sorry, that's probably a lot for right after you wake up," she says, rubbing the back of her head sheepishly. "How do you feel?"
You blink a couple more times. Something about the motion feels… off. Not as organic as it used to. "W-... W-w-weird. An-nd… c-cold."
"Sorry, I guess that body's gonna take some getting used to. Speaking of, do you remember anything from before you woke up?"
You think back, focusing on that sense of warmth. "N-... Not really. I thi-ink I used to not be-e like th-this… and right-t at the e-e-end, I was so ver-r-ry warm…"
"Hmm. I see. Well, you're safe now, and you won't be able to permanently hurt yourself in this body. Hopefully the cold will go away in time. You should get some rest." Something in there bothers you, but you can't quite place what it is. You feel so very tired, it's getting even harder to think. You nod once and lay down, quickly drifting off to sleep, and dream of small, hard morsels that make you feel warm.
