Work Text:

It was the wedding of the century. At least for the Kims’.

Taehyung has long been wishing for something such as this to happen in his life. The wish he’s been dreaming of since he was a child has finally come true in its very best embodiment— his husband

Living lavishly with no worries pulling down on his strings, and being adorned in beautiful shining, shimmering, and splendid jewels his younger self could only wish to see are a few of the many blessings he wakes up to on a daily now. To say that all that’s been happening in his life is wonderful is a complete understatement. It’s more than wonderful and he couldn’t be more thankful, especially to the one and only person who made all of this possible for him.

It was an arrangement at first, one that involves business matters and deals. The Kims’ company has found itself struggling to make do in the industry due to several new promising rivals that have recently come up. It was the downfall awaiting them. Mr. and Mrs. Kim couldn’t bear the thought of all their hard work going down the drain, it was all too much. They were the ones who brought their family name back up when Mr. Kim’s father brought it down due to an agonizing scandal many years ago, one that has long been forgotten due to the couple turning their reputation around and becoming clean again. Now it’s about to plummet once more and the only thing that could save it is a possible union between them and another big company to fully bury the hauntings of the past.

The Jeons weren’t very keen on such an idea at first, especially when their eldest son and the current head of the Jeon corporation has left a failed marriage not too long ago. They thought it was rather risky to put him in the spotlight related to romantic matters once again but when the topic has been brought up to the young man himself, Jungkook wasn’t at all bothered by it, particularly when the mere mention of who is to be wed to was involved. Apparently, Taehyung and Jungkook have met on a few occasions; parties that invited business heirs and chief executive officers in the making to make more connections and be familiar with the rivalries and allyship they all are to have with one another. There was an undeniable spark between the two when they first met, a spark that made conversations flow easily for them, and a spark that for sure led to them being connected to one another again. It was unfortunate that they couldn’t do anything about the attraction that pulled them together like the opposite ends of magnets before due to the Jeon son’s marriage, but now, he’s definitely single and maybe ready to mingle. It was unfortunate that Jungkook’s marriage to his first wife ended on a bad note (divorce) but both parties have been respectful to each other, especially with regard to child custody, and love or whatever that feeling they used to have for each other, is long gone now.

Thus the engagement happened that involved more events and getting-to-know activities, especially for Taehyung and the Jeon family. He had to make himself known to his future husband’s relatives and especially to his very own children; his two bundles of joys, Sora and Sera, twins.

Taehyung was lucky enough that even with such an arranged marriage, everything went so well for him. The Jeons loved him so much on the very first night they had dinner together and when he finally met the twins, they were delighted to have found a new father to spend the rest of their days with. One of them may have mentioned how it gets lonely in the mansion sometimes due to the lack of a maternal figure, but now they have two paternal figures and Sora and Sera are more than thankful for it.

If the engagement party was a thrilling appetizer, the wedding was absolutely next level.

Held in one of the largest cathedrals in South Korea, the walls to the decks were decorated in green and purple along with specks of gold. Birth flowers of the two were adorning the vases placed by the benches, and the thousands of guests that were invited were dressed in expensive fabrics like silk and lace. It was everything Taehyung could have asked for and some say that the second wedding of Jeon Jungkook is grander than that of his first. It made Taehyung wonder what his first wedding was like but the older refuses to tell him about it nor show him old pictures of him and his ex-wife. He was keen on leaving the past behind him, and it’s not like it still mattered (it really didn’t) because his ex-wife has found the right one for her too.

Now here Taehyung is, three years into the marriage with Jungkook. He’s currently seated on the living room couch, watching the twins play their Nintendo Switch together whilst seated on the carpet. A stack of documents is placed before him on the coffee table and he’s browsing them with ease while making sure he doesn’t miss anything important either. The loud shouts and laughter of Sora and Sera weren’t a bother to Taehyung, instead, it makes him feel better and less stressed seeing the two enjoy their time together.

“Papa,” Sora calls minutes later and Taehyung hums in response. There’s a jittery feeling sitting on Taehyung’s stomach at being called papa , it’s still something he couldn’t get used to even after all these years and it makes him delighted every single time. It makes him feel nice.

“Yes, sweetie?”

“When is Dad going home?” Ah. Right. Jungkook has been away for six weeks for a business tour in Europe. Time has been moving slowly ever since his airplane left and Taehyung, Sora, and Sera are still counting down to the day he comes back home. Taehyung would be lying if he said he didn’t miss him because he missed Jungkook badly. He doesn’t know if it’s possible for someone to miss another terribly like he does with Jungkook but every night, his heart has been aching in his chest whenever he feels the cold spot right next to him. The cold spot that belongs to Jungkook. He misses the warm touches the older gave him, the electrifying tingles that come when Jungkook slowly wraps his arms around his waist as they cuddle, and the sweet kisses Jungkook leaves all over the back of his neck when they’re close to dozing off. He feels lonely and that’s never good. Taehyung has been feeling lonely for weeks now.

Surely they did call at times, mostly every day if Jungkook’s schedule allows it, but the large gap in time zones is horrendous and their calls would only take less than five minutes. Less than five! And there are twenty-four hours in a day! Taehyung couldn’t bear another day without talking to his lover longer.

“He’ll be home in a few days, are you excited?”

“I am! I miss him so much.” Sora whines, the bottom of her lips jutting out into a pout, and Sera joins along, also mumbling words of longing for her father.

“Oh darling me too, I miss Dad so much too.” Taehyung coos and he lets go of the papers he’s reading to join the girls on the floor, his arms wrapping them both into a tight hug.

“The girls’ Nana is going to pay a visit tomorrow morning, she might take them too for the entire day to get you some time off.” Seated on the soft outside chairs on his bedroom’s balcony, Taehyung listens carefully to his mother-in-law’s words on the other line. “That’ll be okay for you, Taehyung? You have no scheduled plans with the girls, right?”

“Yes Mom, the girls are free to play tomorrow since we finished their schoolwork earlier this afternoon.” Taehyung answers, his finger playing with the rim of his glass filled with red wine.

“That’s good. Are you alright by the way?”

Taehyung pauses. “Yes I am… just…”

“Just?”

“I’m just feeling a bit lonely without Jungkook here, but it’s nothing, I’ll get over it.” Taehyung plays it off with a chuckle, feeling his cheeks heat up after admitting that to his husband’s mother. Mrs. Jeon laughs on the other line and he could almost imagine those crescent eyes of hers.

“Oh dearie, he’ll be home soon. Have you guys talked yet?”

“Not this week… timezones suck…”

“They really do… he says he rings the house but no one’s answering, I told him, of course no one would answer, your husband and daughters are fast asleep . ” She laughs again and Taehyung joins along, feeling bubbly now at the mention of Jungkook calling their home. “He’s coming home this weekend but if you really feel lonely, you can always come over, yeah? I’ll entertain you with some old women gossip and maybe tell you some embarrassing stories of my son, though I think I’ve told you everything.”

“I’d love that really, thank you, Mom.”

“Of course, Taehyung, just call okay? I’ll hang up now, gotta prepare for bed. Goodnight to you and the girls, love you.” Mrs. Jeon says and Taehyung says the same back to her before they ended the call. Taehyung sighs and turns around to look inside his bedroom. His empty and lonely bedroom. Before he heads to bed, he walks down the hall and enters the twins’ room, finding them already fast asleep and tucked in the same way as he did earlier that night. Sera was hugging her bunny stuffed toy, one that they call Dad, and Sora is hugging a tiger stuffed toy, one that they call Papa. Taehyung smiles to himself, his heart feeling fluttery at the sight of his baby girls sleeping soundly. He takes quiet steps toward the tiny lamp placed on the nightstand in between their beds and shuts it off, making all the shadow starts that painted the ceilings and the walls fade away. He leaves gentle pecks on the two’s foreheads too and he smiles wider upon seeing how the ends of Sora’s lips tug up slightly. He grins at that, knowing damn well his daughters are still awake and only pretend sleeping at the moment. Being cheeky, Taehyung leaves more pecks on Sora’s face, his assumptions turning right as the little girl giggles and moves around feeling ticklish. Sera has “woken” up too and she’s laughing at her sister who’s getting attacked in kisses.

“Papa!” Sora chuckles, her arms going around Taehyung’s neck and pulling him down. “That tickles!”

“Why are you both still awake?” Taehyung asks after placing more kisses on the girl’s cheeks. He stands up properly and carefully tucks Sora back into bed, pulling her duvet up to her chest since she kicked it off of her body seconds ago. Taehyung walks toward Sera now with another grin and she starts giggling, already knowing what’s next to come for her. More kisses. Taehyung wasn’t this affectionate with the two when they first met, understanding that the twins have boundaries they want to set and walls they’ve built up, especially since they knew they wouldn’t be spending so much time with their mother anymore. It was a day before the wedding when those walls broke down though, upon spending days with Taehyung. The older Jeons were keen on making this marriage work not only between Taehyung and Jungkook but also between Taehyung and the twins. It was a normal family weekend in the Jeon family’s beach house back in Busan with Mr. and Mrs. Jeon, Jungkook, and the two girls. They spent two days swimming on their very own private beach and Taehyung took the time to get to know the little munchkins while he plays on the sand with them. All was well on the first day, Taehyung thought, the two were silent, still not unleashing the inner rascals in them but then on the second night of the trip when Taehyung and Jungkook were immersed in a conversation accompanied by white wine (the couple’s favorite!), Taehyung suddenly gets tackled from behind and as he turns, he sees Sora and Sera holding on to paper flowers they made themselves, accompanied with written letters. You can say it was quite an emotional night filled with fond memories and the beginning of a special bond between Taehyung and his new daughters.

“Can’t sleep, missing Daddy.” Sera pouts and Taehyung nods in understanding, completely knowing how that feels. He gently brushes Sera’s hair back and caresses her cheek. “I wish he was back here, Papa.”

“He’ll be home soon sweets, remember what we talked about with him?” Taehyung asks, turning to Sora and then back to Sera.

The two girls nod with whines leaving their lips. “You both said to wait but it’s been aaaaaaaaggggeeeeeeeeesssssssss. ” Taehyung laughs. “Can you call him and tell him to go home right now?”

“As much as I want to do that, I can’t.” Taehyung sighs and the two girls whine again.

“Why not?”

“Daddy is busy. It’s probably morning there right now and he’s doing work stuff. Do you want us to disturb him while he’s working hard?”

“But I miss him!” Sora cries.

“Me too! We miss him, Papa!” Sera follows and Taehyung couldn’t help but be in awe of these two. At the same time, he also feels their pain. He can tell that the girls are feeling this type of longing inside their hearts, a type of longing that could only be filled when their father finally returns. Not being able to ignore the girls’ puppy eyes, Taehyung takes his phone from the pocket of his pants and rings Jungkook up. He knows the older wouldn’t answer, he’s probably in an important meeting right now. A few rings later and still, no reply. He takes a deep breath and shows the unattended phone call to the twins and they sigh. Loudly.

“Look, if you sleep right now, Dad will come home in two days, okay? That’s like two sleeps away!” Taehyung reassures them and he beams when the two’s eyes widened in excitement.

“Really, papa?” Sera asks and Taehyung nods his head.

“Ah! Sora we have to sleep right now! C’mon!” Taehyung watches the two hastily put their blankets over their heads, a sign that they are going to sleep. He laughs when both of them peek at the same time.

“Good night sweethearts,” Taehyung says and the two say it back. “I love you both.”

“Love you, Papa!” The twins shout in unison and Taehyung’s heart flutters again.

When Taehyung arrives back in his room with Jungkook, the feeling of loneliness is no longer there in his chest. It was replaced by a feathery feeling. It felt so nice that he ended up sleeping as soon as his body hit the softness of the mattress.

Nana.

The mother of Mrs. Jeon, grandmother of Jungkook, hence the great-grandmother of Sora and Sera.

Taehyung’s relationship with Nana is quite… complicated. There are moments wherein she’s nice to him but mostly, she barely pays him any attention. Though in the instances wherein she does give him attention, it’s in the manifestation of a glare; an icy glare. Taehyung would never understand the reason why she would glare at him or retort to his words but the woman is an elder and he doesn’t want to cause a ruckus in the family, which is why he stays silent even if her words would sting sometimes.

Whenever Nana visits, the entire Jeon household gets a degree drop. The girls, who are so bubbly and bright, tend to become composed and well-behaved whenever she’s around. It leaves Taehyung a bit worried about what kind of disciplining Nana does to them when he’s not around. But then again, he doesn’t want to pry into matters involving the older woman, not wanting to offend her in any way possible and make her despise him more than she already does. Let’s face it, she hates him. Taehyung could feel it in every glance she sends his way. The way she looks him up and down whenever they come across each other is so clear as to what she thinks about him.

She never said she dislikes him though but Taehyung could definitely tell.

Whenever Nana visits, all goes well at least, but that’s because Jungkook is home with them. Now? Jungkook is a continent away and Taehyung is beyond worried about what’s to happen. Unfortunately for Taehyung, his worries are out to get him early in the morning. Way too early,

The older woman unexpectedly arrived at exactly 7 AM, a drastic change to the usual time she visits the house which is normally at lunchtime. The loud ringing of the doorbell woke Taehyung up from his deep slumber and got him rushing down to the front gate in no time. He’s beyond sleepy, his eyes still droopy and a yawn threatening to escape his throat. All that sleepiness was quick to wash away though when he pushes the gate open to find Nana, standing in all her glory, dressed in a faded gray Chanel blouse-skirt coordinate. She looks like she’s dressed to meet with the royals but really, it’s just Nana’s typical fashion.

“Good morning, Nana.” Taehyung greets, a lump growing inside his throat when she raises a brow at him. It’s already starting . She didn’t bother to respond, already stepping inside the vicinity and making her way to the house like she owns it. Taehyung follows closely behind, wrapping the tie of his silk robe tightly around his waist. Taehyung rushes ahead of her to open the front door wide for her and she nods her head, entering the house.

“Are the girls awake?” She asks, her eyes looking around the living room.

“Not yet, Nana.”

“Stop calling me that.” Nana snaps and Taehyung swallows the lump in his throat.

“Sorry, Ma’am.” The older woman then starts making her way up the stairs, alerting Taehyung. He already knows where she’s headed off to and he wishes he could just shout and stop her then and there but she’s way too fast and she’s already a step away from the second floor. Plus she doesn’t want to anger her by raising his voice.

“W-Wait, the girls don’t wake up for another hour,” Taehyung tells her but she ignores him, again . Now Taehyung is quite annoyed. He hopes she would listen to him for once since this is about his daughters. The girls have slept a little later last night due to the ‘missing their father’ moment they had with Taehyung and he knows damn well how groggy and moody they’ll be if they’re to be woken up now.

“They’ll wake up when I tell them to.” was the only thing Nana said before she pushed the door to the girls’ bedroom wide open and flicks the button of the lights on. “Good morning, girls.” She says, her voice booming. Sora and Sera are still deeply asleep, their light snores heard from the doorway making Taehyung smile fondly at them. But the smile was quick to fade when Nana walks towards them, her heels clicking loudly against the wooden floor. Sora hates that sound and she hates it ten times more when she’s in a mood and she hears it. Nana pulls their duvets off of their bodies and Taehyung then hears the loud whines and protests. “Wake. Up.”

“Please let them sleep some more…” Taehyung asks of her but she only glares at him. Sora and Sera are awake now, but barely. Sera is making grabby hands towards Taehyung and he was quick to attend to her, sitting at the edge of her bed and letting the little girl climb onto his lap. Sera hides her head in the crook of his neck and goes back to sleep while Nana squints her eyes at them. Sora then rises from her bed and Nana smiles, glad that at least one of the twins is listening to her. But then her frown returns when Sora walks to Taehyung instead, also climbing on his lap and going back to sleep.

At this point, Taehyung could already feel the growing hatred she has for him at its full potential. He didn’t want to say anything anymore because he knew if he did, she would explode.

“The girls better be awake at eight sharp, fully dressed and ready for breakfast at the clubhouse.” Nana says, looking at Taehyung and the girls before leaving the room, her heels echoing down the hall until they could no longer be heard. He takes a look at his precious girls and smiles, seeing how they’re sleeping so peacefully once again.

One of the many things Taehyung loves about having daughters is being able to play dress-up with them. Sora, Sera, and Taehyung use this as one of their bonding moments to get closer and to, well , have fun. Taehyung loves spoiling them by gifting pretty dresses, blouses with ruffles which the girls love playing with, flowy skirts that make them feel like princesses whenever they twirl, and soft shoes that perfectly hug their feet. So it wasn’t too much of a surprise that when the three of them arrived at the clubhouse, they were all dressed charmingly and matching too. Nana looks up from where she was seated at their usual table at the outdoor restaurant, her fingers bringing down her sunglasses to get a clearer look at her grandson-in-law and great-granddaughters. A smile forms on her lips when Sera and Sora run towards her, the skirts of their dresses flowing behind. Taehyung dressed them in matching sun dresses, pink for Sora and blue for Sera, just how they like it. Taehyung, on the other hand, couldn’t miss the opportunity to match with his daughters, taking a loose dress shirt with a striped pattern also colored pink and blue. He had white pants on too with some white shoes to match the twins’ white sandals.

“Good morning, Nana.” The twins greet in unison, bowing their heads to the older woman before leaning close to press a kiss on her cheek.

“Morning, girls. Come, take a seat, I’ve ordered your favorites.” Nana tells them with a smile and the girls were quick to find their seats right away and Taehyung follows them. Nana’s eyes kept their gaze on Taehyung, following his every move, and not going to lie, Taehyung’s starting to get fidgety. “Taehyung-ssi,”

“Yes Ma’am?” Taehyung looks at her.

“Has Jungkook spoken to you this week yet?” The question wasn’t really weird but somehow the way Nana put it is weird.

“No, Ma’am, we haven’t spoken much this week due to his conventions and business meetings.” Taehyung tries to not let his disappointment show in the tone of his voice.

“Hm.” Nana doesn’t look too fazed and Taehyung frowns. He watches as Nana signals her helper to watch over the twins and seconds later, the helper is already bringing them someplace else. Taehyung’s getting a bit worried. It’s not like Nana is a dangerous person, it’s just that he doesn’t really want to be in the same place and at the same time as the person who loathes his entire being and soul. He couldn’t bear being under her scrutinizing gaze. “Do you know why else?”

Now Taehyung’s really sure that something is indeed wrong. “Um, what else could the reason be?” He plays off his disbelief at her question with a low laugh. “He’s on a business tour and is miles away. Time zones are quite difficult to work with when he’s away in Europe while I’m in Korea. Morning here is night there and night there is morning here, of course we wouldn’t be able to talk twenty-four seven, especially with the girls’ bedtime and all.”

“Well, alright. If you say so.” Now Taehyung’s starting to get moody. Why’s she acting this way? Why is she so smug? Why is she teasing? What the fuck does she mean?

“Excuse me, Ma’am, I apologize if I’m seeing this the wrong way but is there something you want to say to me? Please say it now while the girls aren’t around.”

“Are you bossing me around, Kim Taehyung?” Nana’s voice is steady and strict, his tone dripping with venom. Taehyung almost startles but he’s trying his best to compose himself, his hands turning into fists on his lap.

“N-No Ma’am.”

“I was just wondering, am I not allowed to wonder?”

“You’re allowed to, Ma’am.”

“For people like you , it should be important that you know what is going on with your husband. Especially when your marriage is like this.” His eyebrows furrow upon hearing that. Who is she to instruct him on what to do as a husband? “Marriages like yours and Jungkook’s aren’t always secure. Might I remind you of his past marriage? First wife?”

Taehyung’s full-on frowning now, growing upset at whatever she’s saying. It was obvious she was trying to work him up and it was definitely working. But he can’t be blamed, she’s targeting him, always has been. “What are you trying to imply Ma’am?”

“Imply? I’m just warning you. You might end up like her , but then again, you are not like her , and you will never be her .” Nana takes a sip from her cup of coffee and Taehyung’s visibly shaking with anger? Sadness? He’s not too sure what he’s feeling at the moment but it’s everything but happy. “Watch out for your husband, you never know what happens in business tours, dear.”

Before Taehyung could explode and let out all of the things he wants to say to her, familiar voices ring in his ears and he turns to find his little girls running back to the table and calling for him. Their hands were holding onto large candy canes and they were both happily eating them. The helper moves back to the side and Taehyung grabs his daughters’ hands. “Leaving so soon?”

“I refuse to be disrespected by you and I do not like it when you talk about Jungkook and my marriage with him like that as if you know everything, especially not in front of our kids. We will be leaving, enjoy your lunch.” With a nod and a brave front, Taehyung turns around with his girls and leaves the clubhouse, trying to ignore the pang in his chest and the growing tears on his eyes.

After the whole clubhouse incident, Taehyung did end up bringing the girls back to their house and instructed the family chef to cook them their favorites for lunch. It was a bummer that he had to take them away so soon from their great-grandmother especially when their food is already on the table, but he couldn’t bear to be in the same area as that woman any longer and he doesn’t wish the same with his daughters. Even if she’s their Nana. It wasn’t just what she said that hit him right where it hurts in relation to his pride and inner feelings, but she took a hit on his marriage with Jungkook, her own grandson! It was baffling to hear such words come out of her mouth when the woman wasn’t always present in Jungkook’s life, and for her to say such things about his relationships? What the hell does she know? Taehyung couldn’t help but feel frustrated but he knows he has no right. It’s still Nana and she’s still an important family member, she’s still very much important to Jungkook. As soon as he took the twins to their nanny to eat their food, Taehyung finds himself isolated between the four walls of the guest bedroom.

He doesn’t know why he’s there but when he went inside his bedroom with Jungkook, the feeling of guilt and regret stemming from what he did and said to his grandmother came crashing down on him and it made him feel as though he was suffocating if he were to stay in the room any longer. He feels so sorry for his actions but he couldn’t help but think that maybe everything he felt about what she said is okay to feel. He’s human after all, a human capable of having emotions and acting on them. With a heavy heart, Taehyung settles underneath the covers of the bed, trying to hide away from the thoughts attacking his mind, thoughts that kept telling him he’ll never be enough for the Jeons, he’ll never be enough for Jungkook… speaking of Jungkook, the words from Nana came back to him again and it’s making his head hurt.

From the day he and Jungkook got married, they made it clear that their relationship would be full of respect and if it were to grow, then love too. In the three years they’ve been together, Taehyung knows that love did grow and bloom between them, it was evident in the way they moved around each other, the way they talk to each other, and the way they care for each other. Everybody else who gets to be around these two can vouch and say that they are very much in love with one another. Jungkook, not even once, made Taehyung doubt his feelings for him, and he never made him feel as if there were anything to doubt when it comes to their marriage.

But here comes Nana… Nana who was there when he had his first marriage and all of the things she said in the clubhouse are plaguing his mind once again.

“For people like you, it should be important that you know what is going on with your husband. Especially when your marriage is like this.”

“Marriages like yours and Jungkook’s aren’t always secure.”

Taehyung wants to cry. Not because his ego was badly bruised by an in-law but because he’s doubting Jungkook which he has never done before. All of his insecurities and worries just came in flooding the entire room and drowning him, and he couldn’t seem to do anything about it ‘cause he can’t move on the bed. He’s completely still, shuddering, as sobs escape his mouth and tear after tear leaves his eyes.

For the first time in the three years of being married to Jungkook, Taehyung felt lonelier than ever.

“Sera! Sera! Pssst!”

“Whaaaaaaat?” Sera whines, her little hands clutching her stomach. “Can we please go down to nanny now? I’m huuuuuungry. Are you not hungry?!”

“We just ate candy canes! But listen…” Sora starts. “I think Papa is crying.”

“What?!” Sera shouts and Sora covers her mouth with her hand, muffling her sister’s protests. They were in the hallway, right outside their parents’ bedroom.

“Be quiet!” She shushes her. “I-I’m not sure! I heard cries in the guest room… should we check it out?”

“Guest room? Why would Papa be there?” Sera gasps, her eyes widening. “What if it’s a ghost!”

“Stupid Sera! There is no ghost here! It’s Papa crying I’m telling you!” Sora huffs, scolding her sister who is gasping yet again.

“You said a bad word!”

“It doesn’t matter, Sera. Papa is sad! We need to do something!”

“Right now?” Sera asks and Sora pauses. The silent pause made the rumbling sound of her stomach audible. “Let’s eat first and then we go to Papa.”

“Yes and let’s bring him food too!”

“Okay!”

Taehyung wakes up feeling something heavy on his back and his arm.

He winces when he tries to move ‘cause his arm is still asleep and is turning numb as the seconds go by, plus, whatever heavy thing is sitting on top of it is clearly not helping. He tries to pry his eyes open but struggles to do so, already feeling a slight sting which is obviously because of his breakdown before he slept. The sight before him though made all the heavy emotions leave him in a second; Sora is lying next to him, her head on his arm, and she was snoring lightly against his neck. Behind him he could feel Sera shuffling, her short arms trying to pull and hug him closer which he scooted a little to her side for. He also catches a glimpse of a plate filled with chicken, mashed potato covered in gravy, and vegetables on the bedside table and it made him smile. It was nice, it felt nice, and it made Taehyung drift back to sleep in the comfort and warmth of his little gremlins.

When Taehyung woke up the second time, it was to an empty bed and darkness. He has no idea what time it is or what day it currently is but all he knows is that he had one hecking good of a sleep and he knew he deserved that. He sits up slowly so as to not startle his body and stretches his arms and legs before he reaches for his phone on the nightstand, seeing that there are just a few notifications coming from his mother-in-law and again , nothing from Jungkook. As if things couldn’t get any worse, the heavy feeling is back once again and all the words said by Nana are back to distract him.

Six weeks. Six fucking weeks of not being with Jungkook and six fucking weeks of barely talking to each other. He misses him terribly and it doesn’t help that he’s still doubting. He felt like sobbing again, he felt like letting all the tears come out of his body but he couldn’t do it. It’s like his breakdown hours ago drained all those tears in his system and he’s left with nothing but annoyance coming from not being able to cry more and his body going back to its miserable state. He wishes his daughters were still asleep next to him but he knows they’re probably doing something to entertain themselves at the moment. And he also knows that as their father, he should probably get up from the bed and see what they are up to.

But before Taehyung could even leave the bed, he hears footsteps come from outside the guest bedroom. He pauses, watching as the doorknob turns and the door gets pushed open, revealing a familiar tall figure belonging to the only person he’s been longing for. Jungkook.

“Love,” Jungkook breathes out as soon as his eyes landed on him on the bed, and Taehyung, gosh , his tears have finally come back, came rushing down his cheeks at the sight of his husband finally home. Finally . Jungkook walks hastily towards him, his eyes filled with worry (because of what two little birds told him), and wraps his strong arms around Taehyung’s body. “Oh god I missed you, I missed you so much.” Taehyung shuts his eyes closed, relishing in the warmth Jungkook is radiating and sniffing that familiar, homey scent that belonged to his lover and his lover only . Jungkook pulls away to press a kiss on his forehead, one that leaves butterflies in Taehyung’s stomach, and he leans down to press another kiss on his left cheek, then the right cheek, and then his nose.

“I missed you, my love.” Jungkook says before planting his lips on top of Taehyung’s, his hand flying up to rest on the other’s cheek and caressing it. Taehyung couldn’t resist any longer as he lets himself melt into the older, his own hands roaming up to wrap themselves around Jungkook’s neck, pulling him closer and deepening their kiss. Jungkook pulls away for a second to look at Taehyung, who was fluttering his lashes at him, completely in a daze, and Jungkook felt his heart do a thing . “Fuck, you’re beautiful.”

“Sap.” Taehyung teases, hitting Jungkook’s chest gently before the older pulls him again for yet another kiss. All of his worries and doubts completely disappeared as he’s in Jungkook’s arms. He missed his lover so much and now that he’s back home, he couldn’t be happier. When they both pull away, Jungkook’s eyebrows are all furrowed again and Taehyung could see worry glint in his eyes. “Are you okay?”

“I should be asking you that,” Jungkook says, sitting on the edge of the bed and taking Taehyung’s hands in his. “The girls told me.”

“The girls told you what?” Taehyung asks, completely oblivious to Sora and Sera hearing his cries many hours ago.

“You were sad… you were crying a lot… and what are you doing here in the guest room? Is our bedroom not comfortable for you anymore? Do you want to get a new bed or something? What is it, tell me.” Taehyung felt like crying again but he blinks back his tears, not wanting Jungkook to see him all ugly sobbing.

“I just…” He pauses, looking down at his hands intertwined with Jungkook’s. “Just been thinking too much, that’s all.”

“What were you thinking about?”

Things. ” Taehyung didn’t want to tell Jungkook that he had doubts. The regret is already eating him up and fully admitting to it would mean that he really did doubt Jungkook and their marriage.

“Should I be worried?” Jungkook chuckles, though it was a nervous one. Taehyung looks up at him apologetically and Jungkook’s smile fades.

“Did I… did I do something that upset you, baby?” The older asks and Taehyung felt a pang in his chest. I can’t do this . “Please tell me so I can fix it, I don’t like it when you’re upset. I’m sorry—”

“N-No! It’s not your fault! Please don’t apologize, it should be me apologizing, not you!”

“But why? Did anything happen, are you okay?”

“It was Nana! Nana made our Papa cry.” A tiny voice makes itself known and the men in the room both turn their heads to see the twins standing by the door while holding hands. They were dressed in their pajamas and Taehyung finally knows what time it is.

“Nana? She was here?” The girls nodded and Jungkook turns to Taehyung who looked defeated. He has no idea how the twins knew, they weren’t there when the argument happened and most certainly he did not tell them of what happened between him and their great-grandmother. “What did she say to you?”

Taehyung shakes his head, not wanting to tell. He doesn’t want any fights between Jungkook and his family, he wouldn’t allow it. Besides, he’ll just ignore whatever remarks Nana will say and not bother with her anymore, it’s the best thing he could do. But Jungkook is not like him, he hates it when someone attempts to hurt the one he loves, even if that someone is a family member. He wouldn’t allow anyone to disrespect Taehyung like that.

“Taehyung… I need to know.” Jungkook was pleading and Taehyung knew he’d end up getting the answer out of him anyways.

“She’s just being her usual self to me… nothing new—”

“Nothing new? She’s been doing this to you for a long time? Why didn’t you tell me?” The two girls were starting to shake as Jungkook’s voice started to get louder. Taehyung notices this and signals for them to leave the room which they obediently do.

“Jungkook, love, it’s nothing I can’t handle.”

“You were crying, baby, whatever she did hurt you, and I cannot accept that and let that go. Please tell me, what did she say to you to make you cry this much?” Jungkook’s hand finds its way to Taehyung’s face again, his thumb gently caressing Taehyung’s puffy eyelids from the crying.

“She said things about me… me not being her… ” Taehyung sees Jungkook tense, his jaw clenching. Jungkook knew how fond Nana was of his first wife. She liked her for Jungkook very much and their divorce made her upset and disappointed. Because of her liking towards his ex-wife, it wasn’t easy for him to suddenly like Taehyung right away. “She said our marriage is not secure, simply because it started as a business arrangement.” Jungkook began to tongue his cheek and Taehyung knows that he’s beyond pissed now.

“She said that?” Taehyung slowly nods. “Did you… did you believe her?”

Taehyung gets surprised by the sudden question. He didn’t think Jungkook would ask that but now there was no escaping from it. “I’m sorry… we haven’t talked properly in so long and I felt lonely and everything is just messing with my head, I let her words get to me and I ended up d-doubting you and I regret it! I badly regret it, Jungkook, I’m sorry—”

“Hey… hey no, it’s okay.” Jungkook wraps his arms around him, his hold tight. “I haven’t been the best husband to you and I’m sorry for it. I’ll make it up to you, okay? To you and the girls, yeah?” Taehyung nods his head, letting Jungkook peck his lips. “And about Nana, I’ll talk to her and you don’t have to worry anymore.”

“Are you sure? I don’t want to get in the way of your relationship with her. I feel like she’ll end up hating me more. She’s still family.”

“No one in my family hates you, baby. You’re my husband and the love of my life and I cannot live without you… as for Nana, she hasn’t been with me for a long time nor have I ever felt her presence as a grandmother. She’ll be fine.” Taehyung nods his head at that, understanding. Even after what she said, he still hopes that one day, Nana would accept him the way Mr. and Mrs. Jeon easily accepted him, but deep down he knows that’ll take quite a long time for it to eventually happen. “Are we okay now, baby?”

“We are… but you have a lot to make up for, young Sir.” Taehyung rises from the bed and Jungkook chuckles, his hands quickly going to Taehyung’s hips, his fingers hooked around the belt hoops of Taehyung’s pants and pulling him closer. “Hey!”

“Yes yes, I know. Was my lover feeling lonely?” Jungkook teases, a smirk playing on his lips and Taehyung feels heat rush to his cheeks

“Not funny.”

“I’ll definitely make up for that. But later though, right now is family time.” Jungkook also stands up from the bed and takes Taehyung’s hand, pulling him outside of the guest bedroom. “I promised the girls we’ll watch a movie together before we all head to bed, but since you slept too much, the two of us got a lot of time to do movie-making after too?” There it is again, the smirk. Taehyung is baffled by how easy it is for Jungkook to make him grow flustered.

“You asshole! The girls might hear you!”

“Don’t be silly, the walls are soundproof, my dear,” Jungkook says before taking Taehyung to the living room where Sora and Sera are seated on the carpet in front of the TV, prepared to watch the movie with bowls of popcorn on the coffee table, junk food that for sure would make Taehyung regret consuming the next day, soft drinks and juices, and some candies and chocolate. “Okay, ready?”

“Start, start, start!” The twins exclaim and Taehyung coos at how adorable they are, so eager to watch the movie. Jungkook settles on the end of the couch and Taehyung was about to do the same when he felt the urge to suddenly sit on his lap, so he does. Jungkook’s arms snake around Taehyung’s waist and he hums in contentment as he cuddles his husband. He ends up resting his chin on Taehyung’s shoulder, sometimes leaving kisses on the back of Taehyung’s neck making Taehyung squirm on his lap and turn towards him with a whine as he kisses Jungkook’s cheeks ever so lovingly. Jungkook only holds him tighter, not wanting to let him go at all.

With the lights shut off, the TV blaring, Sora and Sera huddled together on the floor oh so cutely, and Jungkook holding onto him so tightly, Taehyung felt the happiest. Taehyung is not lonely. He never was as he’s got his own little family— his little family that is complete once again and he couldn’t ask for anything more.
