Work Text:

It's a mistake, it was a very big mistake to accept the schedule change Aizawa thinks as he jumps down into a dirty alley only to find the number one hero of Japan, Dekiru being mugged by some guy.

The boy- Man, isn't doing anything, instead only accepting the mugging as if he isn't fucking build like a brick. Aizawa's first thought is he's underground on a mission. Except the number one hero of japan is very unlikely to be on a mission like that. It's illogical at best and a death mission at worse.

And on top of that, while it may be extremely narcissistic, Aizawa thinks he in his position would have heard something, or at least anything about some large scale underground mission with the number one hero involved.

And while Aizawa knows that Izuku thanks to his mask with his hero costume isn't always recognized off script, especially as he's wearing a face mask and hat at the moment he's still gonna go for a x to doubt moment.

He isn't sure what to do, and stands at the mouth of the alley awkwardly for a few seconds longer than a trained hero should in this situation but just as he's breaking out of his confusion the mugger makes a crazed run for it and Izuku doesn't do a thing.

"Kid, you okay?" Aizawa asks, suddenly mortified at the connotations of the number one hero not doing anything while being mugged.

"Sensei" the word comes out in a whispered more, hushed without a lowered voice to match it.

"You uh were being mugged Izuku-?"

"I know, I know,"

"Right" Aizawa answers because what the actual fuck is he supposed to say to that.

"It's a cold night isn't it sensei?"

"Huh" Aizawa is getting low key whiplash from the adrenaline going off and on.

Suddenly Izuku is laughing, a breathless sort of laugh that's oddl6 endearing to see and hear after so long considering Aizawas only seen his hero smile for the last 6 years

Izuku continues to be a cryptic little shit and laughs again.

"Let me buy you some coffee for your troubles sensei"

"Right" Aizawa responds intelligently because again he just saved the number one hero a mugging?

It's 5 minutes later, when he's sitting with a black coffee from the convenient store and some chips when he still hasn't gotten any answers that he speaks.

"Not that I'm not enjoying our little 2am coffee run, but what the fuck problem child"

Izuku laughs again, this time louder and with his whole body, making the curls peaking put of his hat jump and the tips of his ears turn ever so slightly pink.

"Okay, okay, so basically I get 'mugged' like 3 times a week. It's normal."

"Oh?"

"Yea... the areas with high crime rates, a lot of people in those places don't accept stuff if you just give it to them. They'll be considered easy pickings or considered turned to the good side if they do, so I get mugged really often around those areas. Making myself a very easy target but also not telling the big shots get me. So the younger ones, with less power... they get something"

And isn't that something. Aizawa was proud of most everyone he taught, because he didn't let people who won't be good at what they do pass. But he thinks, izuku Midoriya might take the cake of who he's the most proud of...

Because morals, morals like these can be taught but are more then not from the heart of the person.

"I- yea," Izuku continued at the lack of response "I wanna help everyone sensai, that includes those people and I haven't found a better way yet. I'm short enough where my psychic gets hidden easily with baggy clothes and stuff..." the most Izuku spoke the more unsure he looked.

"I'm really proud of you Izuku. I'm so goddamn proud of you" Aizawa answered, taking a long sip of his coffee.

A easy yet soft smile quickly overtook Izukus previous unease.

"Thanks sensai, I had really good people teach me after all" Izuku smiled with a coy look.

"You're right, I deserve all the credit" Aizawa answered, returning with his own grin causing them to both burst out laughing a second later even if it wasn't loud as per both their nature's.

"But seriously, couldn't you have like told me that while buying the coffee or before that?"

"Yea... I mean I could" Izuku said in a sing songy voice, "but where's the fun in that sensai? You looks soo cute, in pure shock hahahaha"

Aizawa had, had enough of Izuku laughing at his so he obviously did the logical thing and flicked the kids forehead.

"I'm not you're sensai... not to mention who the fuck calls their sensai cute" Aizawa half mumbled the last part but the kid still heard him from how his grin grew.

"Someone who can't get anymore detentions or be kicked out of UA"

"Yea yea, I know, I can't do anything to you brats anymore and you all put rank me and all that"

Izuku snickered at that one "Oh, please, you still scare most of the Pro's shitless, we both know rank doesn't matter"

Aizawa couldn't help the huff that escaped "i wish, you brats put me in a pedestal too much. I'm nothing like that and what did I just say about calling me sensai"

"To call you cute or to call you sensai"

"I-No"

"Fine fine, what do you want me to call you anyways?" Izuku asked, mock defeat in his voice.

"My name would do just fine. Shouta"

"Ewwwww, but you're-"

"I haven't been you're teacher for like 6 years, don't you fucking dare say that"

"But-but"

"Say it with me now, Shou-Ta" Aizawa said, exaggerating his voice to make it sound like he was speaking to a baby.

"Ssssss... sssssss-- shhhhh"

"Almost there"

"SENSEI!"

"Mother-fucker"

"Tsk tsk, that's a bad word sensai"

"I swear to God brat, I will soccer kick you into oblivion right now, right here"

"Fine, fine, Shhhoooou-TA" Izuku relented, standing up and swinging a mock defeat pose.

"Come on," Shouta found himself saying "I'll walk you home"

It was a pleasant walk for it being 2 in the morning in the worse part of town, with shouta being drown into conversations with izuku about nothing and everything. The way he spoke made everything sound intriguing and shouta wondered when the kid who mumbled had turned to this charming personality with so many interesting things to say.

And when the time finally came to say goodbye, shouta left with a heart that was just ever so slightly fuller and a new promise to keep in touch more, to see how the people he once cared so deeply about were doing outside just the TV shows and interviews.
