Work Text:
Violet spent her entire life as a weapon. Since she didn't know how to express her feelings, she was judged for becoming an Auto Memories Doll; if she couldn't understand human emotions, writing about them was the best joke ever.
Carrying the weight of fighting a war: that was the strangest thing she has ever felt. With the loss of a loved one, came the guilt of doing horrible things. Not a single person could tell that a simple letter would've changed everything.
For a long time, she only thought about Bougainvillea's last words: I love you. And after many researches for some plausible explanation, she finally understood the meaning of "loving someone". Finally, Violet was happy, free and feeling loved.
That Auto Memories Doll was destroyed the day she lost Gilbert. However, Violet Evergarden learned how to smile and live like someone her age. She was delighted, like the void in her chest had been filled.
Joy, hope, satisfaction, sympathy, caring. Autonomy.
She could feel it all clearly, and Violet never felt so grateful and alive like now.
