Keep Up With Me

Summary:

"Think you can keep up? Who am I kidding; you know you can't keep up!"

He loved Sunwoo, he loved kissing Sunwoo. He could kiss her forever if oxygen wasn't necessary or if eventually the next week, the world would require their full attention to protect it. Hell, he could kiss her forever if he knew Sunwoo wouldn't eventually get bored of making out too.

Because Jamie knows what she's like; two years of getting to know each other, and even before they had shared their first kiss or first confessions of feelings, Phoenix knew he'd wanted to take on Jett's challenge when she constantly boasted on the battlefield that no one could keep up with her: he'd keep up with her for as long as he could.

Work Text:

There's a movie, something with mindless action and A-list Hollywood actors, that's since been forgotten about still playing on a widescreen TV somewhere in a London living room. On a table, there's two cellphones and some hot snacks that have since gone cold, as well as two beers that were getting flatter by each passing second.

There's two people cuddling on a spacious black couch with satin-covered cushions, a young man and woman. The movie, food, and beers have been completely neglected by them; instead, their hair tickles their faces and their noses bump and brush every time their lips meet to kiss each other in slow, languid motions, eyes closed in relaxation and bliss.

She's on top of him, straddling his waist while wearing a large black hoodie that belongs to him, cradling his face in her delicate but calloused fingers; his hands rest at her waist, letting her press up against his body, his orange shirt and black trousers.

They've been like that for a few minutes now, making out on his couch, and Phoenix can't remember who started it or what started it. All Phoenix knew was that he loved it and he loved her - this girl, Sunwoo Han, who could run as fast as the wind and found that the world spun too slow for her.

Because Jamie knows what she's like; two years of getting to know each other, and even before they had shared their first kiss or first confessions of feelings, Phoenix knew he'd wanted to take on Sunwoo's challenge when she constantly boasted on the battlefield that no one could keep up with her: he'd keep up with her for as long as he could.

As expected, she's the first to break off the kiss between them. Sunwoo grins down at him beneath her, and Phoenix stares up at her; this gorgeous girl with white hair like clouds and blue eyes like the sky, wearing his hoodie over her pale skin with the sleeves big enough to cover her palms, and beaming down at him with this cute pink flush on her cheeks, and her cute pink lips that Phoenix wants to place his lips back over as soon as possible.

He smiles up at her. He still feels like he's dreaming, this sense of calm and comfort still settled over him from this gorgeous woman, Sunwoo Han, who he never wants to fall too far behind from.

"You alright, Wind Girl?" he murmurs, his voice slightly raspy in his relaxation. "What's up?"

Wind Girl Sunwoo - his Wind Girl Sunwoo - simply shrugs, her hands resting on his chest.

"Oh…nothing special!"

The way the corners of Sunwoo's lips curve up and reach the edges of her eyes when she smiles is perfect, and when she speaks her voice is light and soft, just like her. Exactly like her.

Phoenix chuckles. His heart leaps when Sunwoo copies him, chuckling too. Her laugh, no matter how quiet or short, is like music to his ears.

"Really? Not from where I am, 'cause I see something - or someone - very special; right here, sitting on top of me." He pouts his lips out. "Why am I not special to you then, Jett?"

His Sunwoo - his fellow work partner, codename Agent Jett - rolls her eyes, and a smirk replaces the smile from earlier. And, honestly, Phoenix loves her smirk just as much. Phoenix loves his Sunwoo, his Jett, his Wind Girl.

"I don't have to tell you that you're special, Pretty Boy."

"Yeah, but I like being told I'm special." Phoenix's head tilts to the side coyly. "Makes me feel good, know what I mean?"

Jett leans back down. She hums, and Phoenix feels her warm breath brush against his lips when she does so that it makes his own breath hitch in anticipation.

"Yeah." There's that quiet, sensual tone in her voice again that gets Phoenix's heart feeling full, or his mind emptying with no thoughts other than her. "I know what you mean, Pretty Boy."

Jett's lips meet his again, and Phoenix sighs into their kiss. His fingers brush some strands of her wispy white hair falling in front of her face to the side when his hands move from her waist to cup her face.

He loves that nickname from Jett. He loves when Jett calls him Pretty Boy. Once upon a time, he's sure she didn't really mean it the way she does now when she called him that; now, he savours the nickname every time it comes out of her mouth because Phoenix knows she means it. Shit, whether she's calling him Phoenix, his real name Jamie, or his nickname Pretty Boy, he savours them all. He savours them just as he savours their kisses, heated or patient, just like this.

She shifts her body, her hands still pressed against his chest, and dumb in love, Phoenix wonders if she can feel the way his heart is beating for her inside of his body, the way it goes crazy for her, how fast it can go with her; right now, it's calmer than that, but he still wants to show Jett how dead serious - as serious as they were outside of situations like these, where gunshots and violence were involved - that he was for their love; show her through more than words, more than kisses.

But God, this just felt so good to lie like this with her, their bodies together like this, kissing like this. Phoenix knew there was more to this relationship than just steamy make-outs and pretty words or physical nights, but there was just…something wonderful about being able to lie here on his couch, in his home, away from the gunshots and the violence.

Where Phoenix didn't have to constantly keep up. Where Jamie could just kiss Sunwoo forever if he knew she wouldn't eventually get bored of making out too.

Alas, Jett stops kissing him again, her lips coming off of his. Phoenix's eyes open, and there is his Sunwoo looking down at him again, her face flushed with pink again and her parted lips a bit swollen, her eyelashes framing those bright blue eyes. They shift around a bit, and he feels her fingers close together around the fabric of his shirt.

"Um." Jett inhales through her nose, before she looks back at him, and he's taken aback by the openness in her expression and her voice. "I've been trying to…y'know. Really take in everything recently, be grateful for it, and…not let it pass me by. Just…uh, really make sure that I don't just let it slip away, y'know? So, maybe you are special, Phoenix."

And Phoenix, he can't help himself; the way he chuckles is out of surprise, not mockery, but the way Jett's shoulders raise shyly or the way her lips purse and her face goes even redder is too cute to pass up. He lifts his head up, tugs at his hoodie drawstrings playfully so she leans back down, and he pecks her lips.

"I'm teasing you, it's fine," Phoenix coos. His lips pucker out dramatically and instead of her lips, he playfully smooches her nose, and Jett's uncertainty instantly washes away just like that as she bursts into laughter. He grins reassuringly, letting his head fall back into the satin cushions of his couch, dark skin framed by his loose brown-to-blond hair. "I like teasing you for not being that kinda girl."

Jett smirks again. It's a challenging one, he knows it from anywhere. He likes this smirk too.

"Yo, I could be that kinda girl! I'm in no rush tonight."

"Yeah? You reckon, that?"

His grin remains on his face as he lifts his head up and puckers his lips again; when she keeps smirking and doesn't lean down to meet his lips, his eyebrows arch, and his head falls back onto his couch pillow.

"Oh. So you are serious."

"I am!" Jett leans down this time, still smirking with that challenging look on her face. "What's wrong with that?"

He pecks her lips again as he wanted to do five seconds earlier.

"Nothing's wrong with it - I just know you, yeah?" Phoenix's fingers come back up to brush the hair away from Jett's eyes. His voice goes back low and raspy, and coyness is present in his tone. "Even your kisses move fast. And honestly, if that's how you want it, you know I'm down for how fast you wanna go, yeah? Yeah?"

Her smirk becomes open-mouthed as her eyebrows raise scandalously, and Phoenix knows what's coming next yet he yelps as he feels one of Jett's hands smack down against his chest; specifically, his right pectoral.

"Okay, Jamie, relax; you think I'm that fast?"

"Nah, nah, I got you! Nothing wrong with fast! I'm ready to move when you are. Maybe, to bed tonight?"

She smacks his pec again and Phoenix lets out a laugh. When he looks back up to see Jett pouting her lips out, his hands wrap back around her waist, and he shifts his body so that he's sitting up a bit more against the satin cushion and couch arm.

"I told you, ain't nothing wrong with your pace," Jamie whispers, adoration heavy in his voice. He tilts his head up to her again. "I'm serious 'bout that too; I can keep up with you, Jett. I know I can."

This time, Jett initiates their kiss; it's not much more than a peck again, but it's sweet and simple and short and it still gets Phoenix going like no one's business, the way his heart jumps for joy in his chest like the simple man he is.

"I know you too, Jamie," Sunwoo responds. Her brow raises, and he feels her cup his chin with her fingers. "You love a slow burn. Fanning the flames. Stoking the fire."

Phoenix snorts, and his fingers interlace themselves with Jett's rather than let them stay on his chin. "Alright, alright, allow it. Why you saying all these jokes when they sound better outta me, hm?"

She shifts her body up, squirms a bit as she re-positions how she straddles him. It's all to pick up his other hand that was on her waist, to let her fingers wrap around that hand's fingers too.

Jett leans over him again, her face directly above his, and she looks like an angel, the way her lashes frame those eyes and the way those swollen lips part, and Phoenix wonders how he got this lucky, how he's found this angel willing to fly next to him through all this hell they've been through.

"Oh, Pretty Boy." Sunwoo's voice is like the air, as breathy as the wind. "I learned how to keep up with you, Jamie. That's why you're special to me; thought you knew all this time."

And Jamie is so stunned by the sincerity of her words, so touched by them, that his brown eyes go wide on his face as his heart jumps in his chest, and his mouth falls open and he's speechless for several seconds even when Sunwoo giggles at him, her hands still holding his, not letting go, never letting go.

When they kiss each other again, it's Phoenix pulling her arms closer so that Jett can wrap them around his neck, and they stare into each other's eyes for at least a good five or ten seconds before their lips actually meet once more. It's slow, it's intimate, it requires a patience that Phoenix never really expected nor ever felt the need to demand from Jett, and the way it makes him feel is indescribable.

It is the most perfect kiss he thinks he will ever have tonight, and the night wasn't even over, but even despite his tendency for the romantic part of his brain to become over-dramatic and sentimental, this kiss he shares with Jett everything to him right now.

They pull back together when they break off to take in air. Their lips are both swollen and their hair is both messy and they simply do not care; they do not care about anything else but each other, and Phoenix wouldn't have it any other way.

"I love you, Sunwoo," Phoenix breathes, and Jett smiles again, like sunshine on a cloudy day accompanied with a small gust of wind when she huffs lightly against him.

"I love you too, Jamie."

Their eyes flutter closed again, and swollen chapped lips be damned, these two are simply too stubborn and too smitten with each other not to have this dance together on his couch while the movie keeps playing and the beers keep going flat as Phoenix and Jett find their way back to each other's lips.

And these steamy make-outs that may or may not become something more tonight on the couch or in his bed, just this euphoria of kissing Sunwoo on his couch, in his home - being able to do it together, so patiently, despite all the bullshit of the world. No conflict at this moment, no world to save in this instant; no, there's only just them.

He loved Sunwoo, he loved kissing Sunwoo. He could kiss her forever if oxygen wasn't necessary or if eventually the next week, the world would require their full attention to protect it. Yet here Sunwoo Han was, letting Jamie have that time, that patience, that forever with her. Even if he knew forevers weren't guaranteed, especially with Sunwoo.

Phoenix knows what she's like; two years of getting to know each other, and even before they had shared their first kiss or first confessions of feelings, Jamie knew he'd wanted to take on Sunwoo's challenge when she constantly boasted on the battlefield that no one could keep up with her: he'd keep up with her for as long as he could.

But now she knew he could keep up with her - and now, he's realized Sunwoo's decided: it was worth letting Jamie keep up.

And maybe, just maybe - she'll keep doing that for him as long as she could too.
