Steve had seen the guy a few times in the halls of their high school. Eddie Munson was a year above him and a few inches taller than him. He was loud, had the biggest smile, and surrounded by people that adored him. Steve couldn't help feeling a bit jealous. Sure, he had Tommy and Carol but sometimes their tones were sharp and cold. They reminded Steve of younger versions of his parents, blind sighted by popularity. Sometimes Steve feels that Tommy would have been a better Harrinton than himself.
It was a few nights later after the first time Steve seen Eddie when it happened. Steve had a dream about walking the halls and was pulled into a closset. Eddie had pulled him in and shut the door behind them.
"Hey there, Stevie." Steve's knees felt weak at Eddie's whisper. His voice was soft and flirty. Steve fell into Eddie's arms as Eddie leaned down to kiss him. Just as Steve was starting to wrap his arms around Eddie to kiss him back, Steve woke up.
"Yeah, no," Steve mumbled to himself. "Not today. I can't think about this today." The only other thought he would give the dream was that Tommy would never have a dream about kissing Eddie Munson.
Years later, after Steve severed ties with Tommy and Carol, after befriending Dustin and Robin, after Vecna finally died, did Steve think about the dream again. Steve's parents decided to give Steve the house. Said something about Hawkins being a terrible place to live, not that they would know since they were almost never there but that didn't matter. Steve had his life and home finally being put back together. He set up a few rooms for the kids and even Robin whenever they needed or wanted to stay over. He had considered even making a room up for Eddie but something held him back. It didn't make since though, Eddie spent enough time at Steve's place to have his own space.
It was one of those nights where Eddie was hanging out at Steve's when he remembered. They were a few joints in when Steve started giggling to himself.
"What's so funny?" Eddie asked. The two of them were lounging in the livingroom with some windows open. They had a few bottles of beer opened on the table and some horror movie playing in the background.
"Oh I just remembered a dream I had back in Freshman year." Eddie raised an eyebrow and moved his hands as if to say 'and?'. "Well it was a dream about you." Eddie froze.
"A dream about me? A dream you had in freshman year? What was freshman Steve harrington dreaming about me for?" Eddie leaned forward in the chair he was sitting in. Steve was laying on the couch, a little lost in memory, while staring at the ceiling.
"In the dream I was walking down a hallway at school before you pulled me into a closset. In the closet you had said something but the biggest part was that you had kissed me." Steve sighed. "The saddest part is that the dream ended before I could fully kiss you back. I had the biggest crush on you in Freshman year. It's a wonder how it took me this long to realize I was bisexual." Steve giggled again, not noticing Eddie having the biggest brain explosion of his life.
Eddie was frozen, sitting in a chair in Harrington's livingroom. Steve, the boy that Eddie had stupidly liked ever since he saw Steve in the hallways of Eddie's sophomore year. The guy Eddie had thought he would never have a chance with just admitted to not only having liked Eddie back, but also had dreams kissing Eddie. Steve had also admitted to being upset that he woke up before anything more happened in the dream!
Steve finally noticed Eddie when he abruptly stood up out of his chair. Steve gave Eddie a confused puppy look, the look that always made Eddie want to pull Steve into his lap and cover his cheeks in kisses. Eddie took the few small steps to stand right over Steve and offered his hand to Steve.
Steve, still confused, took Eddie's hand and was pulled up and onto his feet. A small squeek left out of his mouth as he stumbled into Eddie's chest. Steve's knees felt weak as he looked into Eddie's eyes. His cheeks felt warm and he clutched Eddie's hand and shirt.
"Like this Stevie?" Eddie asked and then leaned down to kiss him. Steve took a second before he realized that Eddie Munson was kissing him. Eddie Munson was kissing Steve and it was so much better than the dream he had in freshman year.
Steve wrapped his arms around Eddie's neck and kissed him back. Eddie's arms had wrapped around his waist. The two stood there for sometime, slowly kissing and holding eachother.
When the two finally parted for air, Steve grinned up at Eddie before mumbling, "this is so much better than the dream." Eddie smiled and leaned in to kiss Steve again. The spend the entire night curled up in Steve's bed, now their bed, kissing and holding eachother. In the morning, they will joke about Steve forgetting about his own gay awakening.
"Not gonna lie sweetheart," Steve's stomach fluttered at the nickname, "I figured if you ever had a gay awakening, it would have been with Thomas."
"Tommy? No, God no. He isn't my type." Eddie smirked before kissing Steve again and again. They had a lot of time to make up for all the missed kisses.
