   Summary

   Rex understood his brothers. He kept his thumb on the pulse of life that swelled just beneath the surface: the camaraderie, gossip, complaints, rumors. The joking and prodding that took place as soon as the buckets were removed and the mission completed.

   Rex noticed the jealousy that spread through the vod’e like wildfire after one of their brothers had been congratulated by the general. He noticed how they stared at their general in awe. How they vied for her attention, to prove their dedication, to excel in their duty.

   The clones ached to take the most dangerous mission with the hope of being noticed.

   They were getting reckless.
