sweet nothing

Summary:

wednesday is doubtful.

Work Text:

Wednesday loved Enid. More than most things in the world, more than blood and severed limbs (that was hard to achieve, yet Enid had done it.) but still, she felt doubtful.

She felt the rambunctious blonde deserved someone who had more emotional intelligence, who liked to show affection and hug and go on dates. She deserved better than mindless, cold Wednesday Addams.

Maybe their relationship was fueled on pity, maybe Enid just felt bad for the girl because she feared no one else would love her.

Wednesday never would've cared before, she didn't pay mind to anything anyone thought or had to say about her. But since her relationship began, her ways had changed.

Now when she was angry she would refrain from breaking fingers and instead take a deep breath, if she had a bad day she'd tell her roommate not to interact with her rather than take out her fury on the poor girl. Wednesday still resented physical touch, but Enid's was accepted, appreciated even. Her pale, painted fingers felt right on her skin, like they were meant to be there.

But doubt was a resilient bitch, and as hard as Wednesday tried to make it go away, it remained. She hated the feeling, it made her sad and she didn't want to lash out on her lover.

That night, when Enid had still been out doing god knows what, Wednesday laid in bed, her body still but her mind active.

Showing emotion made you weak, crying didn't solve anything. That's what she'd always told herself. She was starting to rethink those statements, though. Maybe emotion didn't make you weak, the way people handled it did. She focused on that as she let herself cry, tears beginning to stain her cheeks.

Wednesday was nothing, and Enid was everything. She was sunshine, she was happy, she was your favorite song in the car with the windows down. She was perfect.

Wednesday was dark, glum, she was cold and anger and peculiar. Not the kind of company Enid needed, let alone girlfriend.

The door creaked and the girl wiped her eyes, panicking. She didn't want Enid to see her like this, so open and vulnerable. Wednesday turned her body to face the wall, hiding the remains of tears streaked across her face.

"Wen!" Enid said cheerfully, instantly rushing over to her lover's bed. "Sorry I'm so late. Some of the other wolves suggested we play a game of hide and seek, we got a little carried away."

"It sounds like you had a wonderful time." Wednesday couldn't hide the tremble in her voice.

"What's wrong?" Enid's expression turned into one of concern, "Wednesday. Talk to me."

The gothic teenager rose, sitting against her headboard and pulling her knees to her chest. Her eyes were still red from crying, Enid noticed.

"I would prefer we don't talk about it right now. I would rather you just sit here beside me in silence, because I missed you." She patted the spot next to her.

Enid complied, scooting up to sit beside her girlfriend. Wednesday's hand rested by her leg, and after a moment the blonde reached out, softly letting her palm lay on top. She felt her girlfriend tense up beside her at first but relax into it quickly.

The silence surrounding the couple was comfortable. They did this often, it was almost their version of cuddling except hand-holding was the only physical touch Wednesday could handle for long periods.

"Are you ready to talk now?" Enid questioned, and Wednesday wasted no time to reply.

"Why me?" She said quickly, exhaling it in a shaky breath.

"What?"

"Why didn't you continue on with Ajax? I'm sure he'll amount to... something. A decent occupation. I'm asking why you chose to pursue me rather than someone more... you."

"Oh, Wen..." Enid was heartbroken. She didn't know her lover had this much doubt about her love for her. "I don't want someone who's 'me'. That would just be horrifically boring. I love you because you're interesting, and you make me challenge myself. And, you know, you're pretty too. A lot more than you think."

Wednesday had never felt more understood in her life as she had then. It took her a minute to soak in all of it. "You love me?"

The werewolf giggled, properly holding the hand underneath hers, "More than you'll ever know."

And suddenly the no-physical-touch situation was out the window, because Wednesday surged forward and pressed their lips together, Enid's hand caressing the side of her face gently.

If emotions made you weak, Wednesday was willing to be emaciated if it meant she could spend the rest of forever with the girl she loved.
