Work Text:
Papers flutter around him, brustled by the late evening wind that flowed freely from the open window. Leo was suddenly quite glad that Izumi was not home at the moment to witness the mess that he had created. Luckily for him, the burst of inspiration had hit when he had pages upon pages of music paper to scribble his mad composing onto. He doesn’t know how hard he’d get scolded if his melodies had found their way onto the walls again, but he knows it certainly wouldn’t be pretty for him.
He sighs, flopping back onto the floor, sending more papers fluttering into the air. He considers leaving the apartment, but it’s raining, and he knows that he would definitely get lost without someone with him.
He wriggles around on the floor for a while, the rising urge to run around with no true destination bubbling inside him. He wishes that Mama was here to drag him off on some grand adventure. He misses his best friend, the man that he loved more than anything. And he craves adventure now that his inspiration has run dry! He needs to get out of this boring little apartment in the city centre of Florence. Right now.
Leo scrambles to his feet, nearly slipping on his scattered sheet music in his desperation to escape. The desire was overwhelming, to just run from all of his responsibilities for the rest of time. Mama doesn’t even have to be with him, he’d be happy if they just bumped into each other once in a while on their respective wanders. Leo decided then and there, once he was free from everything, and retired as an idol, he was going to disappear from the constraints of normal life and live exactly as he wanted to without being held back by anything anymore.
As he opens the door, he’s shocked as something almost like the human equivalent of a wall all but falls on top of him. Luckily, both of their reflexes are fast enough to prevent this from actually happening, and once the other man regains his balance, he grips Leo’s shoulders excitedly.
‘Leo-san! Let’s-’
‘Mama! What are you-’ Both of them laugh as they realise they interrupted each other in their excitement. Leo bonks his forehead gently against Mama’s shoulder, like a cat pressing its face into your hand as it begs for attention. Leo is lucky to have someone as close to him as Mama, who understands him and all his strange little behaviours fully, who draws him into a strong, yet incredibly gentle embrace. Leo purrs softly, relishing in the affection from his boyfriend.
‘You came at just the right, Mikejimama! I was gonna head out for adventure, but now that you’re here, you just havta come with me!’ He chirps excitedly from his newfound comfy place against Mama’s chest, feeling the vibrations run through him as his boyfriend chuckles loudly.
‘But of course, my dear Leo-san! Mama has sought you out for that exact reason!’ He skillfully detaches Leo from him, and Leo mourns the loss of every part of him making contact with Mama until the other grabs his hand, pulling him out of the dull apartment into the bright and colourful world. Leo has barely enough time to slam the door shut behind them - Izumi would kill him if he found out Leo wasn’t there and the door was open - before Mama is dragging him down the steps to Baby-chan. Mama places the spare helmet on Leo’s head, making sure that it is completely secure before patting the top in satisfaction.
‘There we go! Wouldn’t want to get that precious little head of yours all hurt! Mama certainly doesn’t want that! I’d hate for my cute Leo-san to get all scraped up!’ Leo flusters as Mama mounts his motorbike, offering a hand to Leo. Leo graciously accepts his hand, getting gently swung up to sit behind his boyfriend.
‘Where are we going, Mikejimama?’ He knows that Mama won’t give him a straight answer, he never does, but it doesn’t hurt to try asking.
‘That’s for me to know and you to find out. Besides, it’s not an adventure if I just tell you!’ Leo sighs, and then giggles. That was pretty much exactly the answer he had expected to get. For all of Mama’s unpredictability, Leo knew him better than anyone else.

Mama takes them far out of the city, up into the sprawling hills that Leo has never explored before. He gets the sudden urge to go camping in the fields of Hokkaido. He’ll have to ask Mama about that the next time they’re both in Japan.
Leo nearly falls off the back of the bike as Mama breaks to a screeching halt, managing to keep himself upright with only a desperate cling to the back of his boyfriend’s jacket. Mama laughs at his struggle, and Leo pouts before giggling along with him.
‘What are we doing all the way out here, Mikejimama?’ Out of the corner of his eye, Leo can see Mama smiling fondly at him as he dismounts Baby-chan and gazes around in wonder.
‘I thought you wanted adventure, Leo-san!’ Mama slides off the bike to stand next to Leo, a gentle arm making its way around the ginger’s waist. Mama kisses Leo’s forehead gently and he’s reminded again of how much he loved this man, how much he missed him when they couldn’t be together. Their bond was something irreplaceable, especially to Leo. He would never be able to express how much Mama meant to him to the man himself, but he also knew that he never needed to say anything, because Mama would understand without him having to.
Leo nuzzles into Mama, but Mama doesn’t return the affection this time, making Leo pout in confusion. Confusion quickly blown away as Mama grips his hand and pulls him along to start up the hill.
‘Do you have something planned, Mikejimama? You seem to really know where we’re going!’ Mama laughs, the evening light reflecting off his face, making him seem all that much more brilliant. Leo really wants to kiss him, but knows Mama won’t let him when he’s this riled up with energy.
‘You’ll see, Leo-san! But you’ll like it, I promise. I’ve made sure of that!’ Leo’s heart overflows with affection, and now he wants to kiss Mama even more. In the setting sun, gripping onto Leo’s hand like he doesn’t ever want to let go, Madara truly looks like a hero to him. It may have seemed mundane to anyone else, but to Leo, Madara was always his best hero. Always there for him when no one else was, ever the hero he hadn’t known he’d needed back then. He was grateful for everything that Madara did for him, even if it wasn’t the most… legal at times. He was aware, of the lengths Madara would go to protect him, but it wasn’t a big deal to Leo. In his eyes, Madara could never be anything like a monster. There would be truly nothing that anyone did that would change his mind, after all, he knew Madara better than anyone else.
As they stop atop the hill, Leo marvels at the beauty of everything around them. He turns to Mama to say something to him, but before words can slip from his mouth, Madara’s lips are on his own. It feels surreal, sometimes, that Mama is really a part of Leo’s life, someone who can kiss him like this and make him go weak in the knees from just a single touch. He loves Madara Mikejima, more than anyone or anything he’s ever loved before.
‘Leo-san, let’s get married.’ Leo blinks in surprise at Mama, a soft flush spreading across his cheeks. He finds himself speechless in a way that he hasn’t been in a long time. Married… to Mama… it’s a nice idea, he thinks as Mama holds him close and runs soft fingers through his orange hair.
‘Yeah… let’s…’ It may be on a whim, or perhaps that was what Mama brought him out here for; but who would they be if they didn’t live their lives spontaneously? It would be just like the two of them to run off and get married without a word to anyone. And Leo wouldn’t have it any other way. Life was the grandest adventure after all!
‘I love you, Leo-san.’
‘Love ya too, Mikejimama!’
