Summary
The water was glacial in temperature. Simon wasn’t sure he’d ever been this cold before. Usually when he woke up beneath the water, though, it was dark above. His only guidance to which way was up and which way was down lay in the hands of the stars that lit the murky depths with poor vivacity and success. Sometimes, he’d even see the moon shimmering above the surface, distorted and rippled beyond recognition.
This time, there was light. Some form of bright orange-yellow light, not unlike the sun’s own ebullience. Simon’s interest peaked and although the water’s arms clung to him tightly, holding him down at depth, he fought against her. He fought to glimpse, purely spurred on by curiosity, what that beautiful and vibrant light might be, waiting for him at the surface. As he began to rise off the river bed, he felt more energy flow into him. He began to float, slowly but surely. As he grew so deliciously closer to the surface, he felt a temperature change lap at his skin.
Warmth.
He felt warmth.
