Chapter Text
Ravio could fight, he really could, but he didn’t want to, he simply wanted to sell weapons to his boyfriend. So when bokoblins attacked him by the river his job was to stay out of the way and let Legend fight. He was doing pretty well but all it took was one misstep to send them both tumbling into the river. Ravio tried to swim, again he really did, but he was swept away with the current. Red water flitted and filtered through the mesh of the eyes of his mask, he looked around for Legend, but all he saw was the shimmer of scales. Panic filled his mind as he passed out.
He woke up in shallow water on the other side of a large rock, coughing and sputtering. His head was pounding. His hood was down, dripping onto the ground behind him. He looked around. Sticking out from behind a rock was Legend.
“Mr. Hero!” Ravio called, running over. He rolled Legend over so he was facing him, he wasn't moving.
“Link! Link!” Ravio said, “oh please be alright, please be alright.” Ravio let out a scream, that wasn't Legend. It was a monster. It had Legend’s face, but light blue scales around the sides of it, pointed teeth, webbing on the ears, and a fish tail instead of legs.
“Link,” Ravio sobbed, “Link what happened to you?” He took the monster's hand and it was webbed. Then he noticed a warm liquid running down his robe. Black, stained the purple fabric. He rolled the monster’s head even further and saw it was bleeding.
“I don’t know if you're still my Link, Mr Hero, but I’m going to help you anyway.” He picked up the monster, Link, Link he’s still Link, Ravio corrected himself, carrying him princess style. He ran back to his house as fast as he could in his still dripping robe. Ravio coughed as he stumbled in the door. He coughed more and more as he bandaged Legend’s head, and then he passed out. Just before he lost consciousness he noticed that Legend was back to normal, no scales, normal teeth, no tail, no webbing.
Legend woke up. Oh no, Ravio, he saw my tail! He must have! He must have! Legend panicked to himself, then he realised he was in his house, safe, in bed. He reached up to scratch his head and noticed the bandage. Ravio had done that, he assumed. He got out of bed and nearly slipped on wet fabric. Ravio was laying on the floor. Water dripped from his mouth when Legend heaved him onto the bed.
“Oh no. no. No! NO!” While Legend had gills when he was under water Ravio didn’t, there was a very good chance Ravio had drowned, only making it so far on land before he collapsed. Legend pumped down on Ravio’s stomach. Water came out of Ravio’s mouth. Legend bet down hoping he wasn't too late, he pitched Raivo’s nose and blew into his mouth, repeating the process of pumping and blowing, getting more and more desperate each time.
“Ravio!” He sobbed, “RAVIO!” Legend grabbed Ravio’s limp hand and sobbed, his head flopped onto Ravio’s chest, water spilling out and down onto him, he didn't care. Ravio was dead, and it was his fault.
“I’m sorry Rav,” He whimpered, “I couldn't save you.”
His voice cracked as he sobbed, “I let you down.”
Suddenly Ravio’s fingers tightened around Legends. Ravio started coughing. Legend helped him up and leaned him over the edge of the bed.
“You didn’t let me down Mr. Hero,” Ravio tried to say as he got the water out of his lungs, but he was coughing so hard that Legend didn’t hear him.
“Rav, I’m so glad you're alive, I’m so sorry, what you saw it was-” Legend stopped, Raivo had sat up and hugged him,
“Thank you.” They said. Ravio then threw up, getting the last of the water out of his system.
“Aw! Rav!”
“Sorry.” Ravio said, his voice raw from coughing and throwing up, “I think I took in a little water.”
Legend chuckled, he grabbed some towels from the bathroom and dried off the floor. He and Ravio changed into dry clothes and spent the rest of the night playing cards.
“I’m glad you didn’t drown.” LEgend said randomly.
“Me too, I like me.”
They laughed quietly, then settled into silence for a few more hands before Ravio suggested, “Wanna go swimming tomorrow?”
