Work Text:

Wednesday couldn’t remember the last time her cold heart had felt so full of warmth.

The way Xavier chill bitter lips kissed her, and how her fingers clutched onto his shirt as if she feared he would vanish into thin air. It didn’t matter that she knew that there was nothing to worry about, that he wouldn’t leave her side for a second longer, but the mere idea still sent her body into shivers every time his mouth brushed against her sickly pale skin.

She was too weak to fight it, she just let herself go and melt into his embrace.  When he pulled away from their little kiss, she tried to ignore the sudden emptiness in her chest, when her cold hands gripped onto his shirt even tighter.

“You better stay by my side,” she whispered monotonously but softly, her voice hoarse from disuse. It seemed as if the two of them were trapped in a dream, where they could live together in their own world, a place that no one else could reach them. Her eyes closed, as she rested her head on his shoulder.

The only answer she received was a low hum, followed by soft kisses pressed onto her temple before the boy picked her up bridal style. “Xavier,” she murmured once more as he carried her towards his bed.  He ignored her, simply placing her down gently beside him. She curled her fingers around his wrist, feeling an almost physical pain in her chest at the thought of losing his touch. “Xavier? You aren’t going anywhere, right?”  Another kiss on her temple was all she received in return.

He was silent, he merely stared at her with a sad expression on his face. “Xavier…” she whimpered.

A small smile appeared on his lips as he leaned down, kissing her forehead softly.

It frustrated her to no end, how Xavier was able to treat her like a porcelain doll – like a fragile flower that could be broken with the slightest movement. Yet, deep down, she understood that it had nothing to do with her small size or appearance, everything to do with the fact that he was afraid to hurt her.

And if only he knew how much he truly meant to her.  That despite everything, he still managed to have her trust in a few sentences, she could see through him like an open book; but then again, he did it to her, always being there. “Stay with me,” she pleaded, tugging at his sleeve. Her hand trailed slowly up his arm until she found his shoulder, pushing him slightly so she could look into his eyes.

“I will, I promise.”
