Summary
The first time Daniel saw Armand in fifty years, he looked through him.
Armand thought he had prepared himself for this, of course. He had been the one who laid the gentle curtain in Daniel’s mind over the memories they’d once shared together. For half a century, Armand had been the one carrying them alone. He’d been content to do it, knowing that the weight of those memories was the price paid for Daniel to have a long, full life.
Armand felt satisfaction that he’d ensured the one he loved lived the life that would make him happiest. Not once in these years had Armand cause to regret. In his mind, he was as Atlas, shouldering the largest piece of the world that mattered to him. Not even for eternity. Not even for a thousand years. Just the briefest span of time that was one human’s life.
