“You shouldn’t be here,” Sylvain said carefully, eyes trained on a spot past Miklan’s right ear. His heart was hammering.
He watched as Miklan’s tongue darted out to wet his bottom lip. His brother had thankfully been absent the morning the news broke, and the unfettered glee spreading across his face now was proof enough of why Sylvain would’ve preferred to keep it that way. His hairline was starting to bead with sweat, and even with Miklan beyond arm’s reach, Sylvain felt a shiver running through him.
Miklan scoffed. “What, and let my dear brother suffer through his first heat alone?”
