She Bites

Summary:

A follow up part to Feeling Strange.
Enid has been acting different lately. In ways Wednesday has come to accept without much thought. It isn’t until she’s bothered by triplet werewolves that things start to make sense regarding Enid’s behavior. In classic detective fashion she decides it’s worth investigating. And maybe, just maybe, she decides that Enid is worth a few meaningful sacrifices.

Work Text:

Nevermore was alive with prospective new students funneling in and out of the building every thirty minutes. It was that time of year when tours began allowing parents and their kids to investigate the school their children would be sent to. Wednesday hated it of course. It made everything too cluttered and the lack of uniformity bothered her. She’d grown used to the sea of blue striped uniforms over the past two years and seeing it muddled with plaids, polka dots, and more made her ill. There were even children running amuck in light up sneakers which flashed obnoxiously.
The only comfort Wednesday had at the moment was Enid who lay with her head in the Addams’ lap. Wednesday sat stock still, running a hand methodically through blonde locks as she read intently about ancient embalming methods. On occasion, she heard a soft sound resonate in the back of her girlfriend’s throat that resembled a purr. It was amusing to say the least but Wednesday neglected to mention the noise. There was no sense in embarrassing Enid. She’d gain nothing out of it.
Flipping the page in her book, Wednesday acknowledged Eugene as he took a seat beside them, moving Enid’s legs before placing them back in his lap. He remained silent until Wednesday marked her place and fully acknowledged his presence.
“Welcome back Eugene,” she remarked, tilting her head to look at him. “You appear fatigued.”
“Yeah, having to go up and down the stairs all day is killer,” he sighed. “I don’t know why I signed up to help with the tours. Stairs and I don’t agree.”
“That reminds me, Enid,” Wednesday spoke evenly, nudging the blonde until she stirred. “Don’t you have a tour to lead with Bianca?”
“I have time,” Enid mumbled, rolling onto her side and burying her face in Wednesday’s stomach. With a roll of the eyes, Wednesday fished out the pocket watch in her uniform pocket.
“You’re five minutes late,” she noted, tone dry.
“Five minutes?!” Enid worried, shooting upright and immediately pulling away from Wednesday. “She’s going to kill me!”
“You better run,” Eugene encouraged, watching as Enid took off towards the main entrance. “Weren’t you supposed to keep track of the time before I left?”
“I was, but it’s amusing to watch her run,” Wednesday replied, a smug look settling over her. Eugene did his best to stifle a laugh but Wednesday could hear his quiet giggles no matter how hard he tried to silence them. “Besides, she’s been clingy lately. I could use a bit of space.”
“More than usual?” Eugene asked, his laughter dying down.
“Yes,” Wednesday nodded. “It’s like she’s covered in glue and sticks to me without the ability to leave. Under normal circumstances we both value personal space. Particularly in public but that’s changed lately.”
“Have you asked why? Maybe she’s just lonely. She never goes home during breaks. It could be a family issue,” Eugene suggested.
“Maybe,” Wednesday nodded. “I will talk to her later, then. I’m a detective after all. I should be able to get an answer one way or another.”
“Just be gentle,” Eugene warned.
“The only person I’m ever gentle with is Enid, Eugene. And perhaps you at times. Otherwise, no one is safe.” In classic Addams fashion, Wednesday returned to her book unbothered by the pervasive silence she’d now created. Despite their friendship Eugene was still caught off guard at some of the things Wednesday said. He struggled to determine if she was serious or not, unable to identify Wednesday’s micro expressions like Enid could.
“Well, it was nice chatting. I’m going to go get some lunch. All those stairs made me hungry,” Eugene decided, getting up from the bench.
“Check for poison before you eat,” Wednesday encouraged, turning the page in her book.
“Right, how could I forget,” Eugene chuckled, slowly disappearing into the pervasive crowds.
Now comfortable in the quiet, Wednesday set aside her book and let her mind wander to ancient torture devices, ritual ceremonies, and mythological monsters known for tearing people apart. She concocted a world of blood and gore that amused her a great deal. She could picture villagers running for their lives as monsters swarmed them with insatiable hunger. It was a perfect place to go to in her mind, but it was short lived as a group of individuals approached her.
She’d already had to redirect a lost family and decided she wouldn’t tolerate such stupidity again. After all, everyone was given a map in event of becoming lost. It wasn’t her fault they couldn’t read one. Still, the brunette sat perfectly still as she watched the group of three approach. They were lanky looking individuals, malnourished if she had to guess, with brown hair and vibrant green eyes.
“There she is,” one of them smiled, gesturing excitedly at Wednesday. “I could smell you a mile away.”
“Your insults need work,” Wednesday called, her eyes burning holes into them.
“It’s not an insult,” the same boy as before insisted. “You’re like us.”
“What my brother means to say is that we get it,” said the second. “I’m Jason, this is Jaxon, and that’s Jacob.”
“Triplets. How charming,” Wednesday mocked, un-enthused by their presence. “You’re supposed to be touring if I recall and I’d like to be left alone.”
“We got lost,” Jason shrugged, a mischievous smile twisting his features. “Besides, like my brother said, we could smell you. Made sense to track you down. Gotta stick with our own kind. Besides, you’re not doing yourself any favors sitting out in the open when you’re so worked up.”
“Worked up?” Wednesday frowned, the expression barely registering on her face.
“Yeah, you know,” Jason shrugged, looking at his brothers, his features scrunched up in confusion. “Worked up. Needy. It happens. Your partner, if you have one, is slacking.”
“Enid doesn’t slack,” Wednesday glowered, studying the boys intently. “Now leave me alone. I’m enjoying the silence and your less than ideal presence is interrupting me. I don’t expect you to understand that my patience is thin but there will be consequences should you linger.”
Each of the brothers shifted awkwardly from foot to foot. It was clear they didn’t know what to do. If they’d intended on making friends they’d failed miserably. Then again, it wasn’t like Wednesday wanted friends. Especially them.
“We’re sorry if we came off too strong. Just trying to make friends. We’ll be attending next year. We thought that maybe hitting it off with someone like us would be beneficial,” Jacob apologized.
“I don’t care,” the brunette sighed, noting the way Jaxon bristled at her careless response. Part of her wanted to agitate him more. “If I wanted us to be friends I would have sought you out. Clearly, you missed the memo. You’re un-important in the grand scheme of things and frankly irrelevant to my day to day life.”
“Hey! There’s no reason to be so rude. Whatever stick is up your ass needs to be pulled out,” Jaxon growled, something familiar in his tone of voice as he stood up straighter to step in front of his brothers.
“Is there a problem?” Enid’s voice cut through Jaxon’s agitated breathing like a knife. All three of the boys turned to look at the blonde expectantly as she approached.
“No, not at all,” Jacob insisted, nostrils flaring as he spoke. A strange look washed over his face as he looked back at Wednesday. “It seems my brothers and I were mistaken. I apologize. Come on guys.”
The trio sulked off back into the crowds running around like tiny swarms of bees. Enid watched them go with a death glare plastered on her face.
“Do you know them?” Wednesday questioned, moving her book to let Enid sit beside her again.
“Werewolves,” Enid scoffed, her own nostrils flaring. “Disgusting ones at that. It’s always the boys that throw their weight around.”
“If it makes you feel any better I had plans on stabbing them if they provoked me,” Wednesday soothed, opening her uniform pocket to reveal a knife.
“Noted,” Enid laughed. “Did they say anything too off putting?”
“No,” Wednesday replied, relaying their conversation. “From what I can tell they were horribly confused. Probably a result of their malnourishment.”
“Right,” Enid nodded, but Wednesday noted the vibrant blush painting her girlfriend’s cheeks. “Well, if they come back just holler. I’m going to go relax in our room for a bit.”
“I’ll be there shortly,” Wednesday promised. “I want to finish my chapter first.”
“Take your time,” Enid insisted, cupping Wednesday’s face in her hands and kissing her cheek. Without saying a word, the brunette placed a finger to her lips earning a smile from Enid.
“If you insist,” the blonde teased, kissing Wednesday firmly and a little longer than expected. Then, without so much as a sound, the blonde skipped off towards the school’s main entrance. Wednesday carried on with her reading until at long last she finished her designated chapter.
Stealing her nerves, she ventured towards the entrance as well, doing her best to avoid physical contact with dozens of unknown strangers. Eventually, she gave up and pushed her way ruthlessly through the crowds even knocking over a toddler without mercy. The child’s wailing cry nearly brought a smile to her face as she vanished inside Nevermore.
Wandering through long hallways, Wednesday made the familiar trek back to her room. Stepping inside she eagerly shut the door and embraced the raw silence with a deep sigh. Content and finally at peace, the brunette made her way to the trunk at the foot of her bed to pry it open. Tucking the book inside, she stood, dusted her hands off onto her uniform and ventured to the bathroom. She didn’t expect to find Enid shivering from head to toe with blue lips and goose bump riddled skin while brushing her hair.
“Your lips are blue. Why?” Wednesday asked, eyeing the other girl with subtle suspicion.
“Cold shower,” Enid replied evenly, setting the brush aside and moving past Wednesday to exit the bathroom. When the blonde eased the door shut, Wednesday stood there staring at herself in the mirror. She wasn’t sure what sparked the thought process only that it happened. She recalled the way Enid slept restlessly over the past week, always awake at odd hours of the night appearing uncomfortable and fidgety. The way she seemed so clingy. Always wanting to be next to Wednesday, touching her in any way possible and wanting the contact to last. How easy it was to fluster her with simple remarks that would have otherwise been ineffective.
Then Wednesday thought back to the triplet werewolves. They’d described her as “worked-up” and “needy”. Terms that meant nothing at the time now began to make sense. They hadn’t smelled her, they’d smelled Enid’s scent on her. They were describing Enid. With a sigh, Wednesday mentally kicked herself for having been so oblivious.
“Time to fix it,” Wednesday sighed, turning to the door and throwing it open. “Enid!”
“Jesus Christ!” Enid yelped, startled by Wednesday’s declaration and the sound of the door smacking the wall.
“Apologies,” Wednesday mused. Clearing her throat she adjusted the door before facing Enid where she sat on the edge of her bed. “Come here for a moment.”
“Are you okay?” Enid asked wearily, approaching the smaller girl with care. As soon as Enid was within reach, Wednesday enveloped her in a fierce hug, pressing her ear firmly against Enid’s chest. As expected she heard the thundering heart beat beneath sturdy ribs accelerate the longer they remained in contact. Giving a confirmatory nod, Wednesday stepped back, hands moving to Enid’s shoulders.
“I’ve come to a conclusion,” Wednesday began. “You’re horny.”
“I-what makes you think that?” Enid stammered, face flushed a vibrant red as she tugged awkwardly at her sweater collar.
“You’ve been clingy. More so than normal. I don’t mind it much. Only on occasion. You prefer skin to skin contact more than anything. Those werewolf triplets described me as “worked-up” and “needy.” They said they could smell me and thought I was one of them. It’s clear now that they were mistaken in confusing my scent with yours. Seeing as how you’ve been all over me lately that’s not surprising,” Wednesday explained, pacing about like she was solving some grand mystery. Then she stopped to look at Enid earnestly. “They said that I had a bad partner based on their deductions, which means that really…I’m the bad partner.”
“That’s not true,” Enid insisted, but the smaller girl was quick to stop her.
“It is. After the last Rave’N you told me that you had ways of satisfying yourself. I took that to mean you didn’t really need me to sexually please you. You assumed the same. Clearly that’s not the case,” Wednesday informed, tucking her hands behind her back.
“Okay, fine. You’re right, but-“ Enid paused, her face scrunching up in frustration. “How could I ask you to…you know? You made your position on the matter quite clear. You find that sort of thing-“
“Sex.”
“Sex,” Enid sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose, ”repulsive.”
“That’s true,” Wednesday nodded. “I find sex repulsive but I don’t find you repulsive. At least, not anymore. You’re my partner-“
“Girlfriend.”
“Girlfriend,” Wednesday corrected, “and you’ve made sacrifices for me. That’s how relationships work which means that I’m willing to make sacrifices for you too. Including sleeping with you if need be. I will still have boundaries in regard to it. It might take me a day or two to prepare, but I will do it. Because I love you…and you deserve to be happy. Satisfied too. So, I will gladly give it a try.”
“Really?” Enid asked, her tone hesitant and skeptical. As if she felt like she was going to be lied to.
“Of course. You were neglected quite severely as a child. Your mother wasn’t nurturing in ways you needed. As a result your love language is physical touch. That’s how you communicate with others because that’s how you prefer to be loved. Frankly, it was foolish of me to expect you to not possess such carnal needs given your history and your werewolf nature. We are different, and I forget that at times,” Wednesday apologized, taking Enid’s hands in her own. “Which is why I’m rectifying my mistakes. If you ever desire anything, anything at all, you need only ask. I won’t always say yes, but if you ask the next day I might. And if not then, then the day after and so on. There will always be a time when I oblige. I promise.”
Enid nodded, a sheen of unshed tears coating her eyes as she regarded the smaller girl in front of her. “You’re really something special Wednesday.”
“I know. I’ve been told,” the brunette retorted, welcoming the bone crushing hug from Enid. “So, should we get started?”
“Right now?” Enid asked, eyebrows creasing together.
“Yes. I don’t have other plans and I refuse to go back outside with so many dunderheads out and about. Besides, your seventeenth birthday is in a week. Consider this mg gift,” the brunette explained, rocking back onto her heels. If she was being honest with herself, which she wasn’t, she’d admit to being nervous. However, Wednesday could tell Enid shared similar sentiments mixed in with a slight giddiness.
“Sure. Uhm, the mood kind of sucks though so give me a sec.” Enid skipped over to the laptop on her bed and pried it open.
“If you start playing Taylor Swift I will immediately revoke my offer,” Wednesday warned, earning a bright laugh in response. After a few more moments a song Wednesday vaguely knew began to play. She recognized the band Berlin. Her parents had a special affinity for these types of songs. Slow with a methodical beat that drew you in. But this version was different. It had been lowered an octave and centered around a deep sounding cello.
Satisfied with the song, Enid returned to the center of the room as the strings began to sing.
“Do you have a plan for this?” The blonde asked.
“Of course,” Wednesday nodded, tugging off her uniform jacket. “Explore.”
Enid’s eyes dilated instantly. She could tell by Wednesday’s posture and the subtle softness in her features that she was honestly and earnestly offering herself up. A hesitant grin painted the blonde’s features as she took Wednesday’s grey sweater in her hands. It was easy to remove and promptly joined the black jacket upon the floor.
Working at the tie around Wednesday’s neck, Enid noticed how intently Wednesday was watching her. Those beautiful brown eyes washed over her with genuine interest and curiosity. She wanted this to work. Not for herself but for Enid. It was almost comical as the first line of the song rang out:

Watching every motion in my foolish lover’s game.

“Have I ever mentioned that you look good in a tie?” Enid asked, examining the black fabric for a moment before tossing it aside.
“You could care to mention it more,” Wednesday remarked as Enid’s pale fingers worked at the buttons of her white shirt revealing caramel colored skin beneath.
With a simple shrug of the shoulders, Wednesday shimmied out of the garment standing firmly rooted in place, torso bare and vulnerable.
“Noted,” Enid nodded, easily distracted by the thin wiry girl in front of her. Like Wednesday had some odd weeks ago, Enid let her fingers run over ice cold skin leaving a path of warmth in their wake.
“Enid?” Wednesday asked, catching the taller girl’s hands in her own as they drifted to the uniform skirt. “May I do the rest?” Wait for me. Make yourself comfortable.”
“Yeah, okay,” Enid nodded, retreating as Wednesday directed. Sucking in a shaky breathe the brunette moved to sit on the edge of her bed and finish removing the rest of her clothes. She was infinitely aware of Enid doing the same and despite herself she felt her heart hammer painfully in her chest. Enid really was beautiful. She’d meant what she said the last time they’d met like this. Though Wednesday rarely felt insecure, she hoped she could measure up.
Mustering up a bit of extra courage, the smaller girl padded silently across the room to stand in front of the blonde. Their eyes met as dark blushes decorated their faces. Letting loose a small laugh, Enid took Wednesday’s hands in her own pulling the brunette down onto the insufferably colored bed.
“You’re as beautiful as I imagined,” Enid assured, peppering Wednesday’s face with kisses. “You’re put together better than a corpse presented on a Sunday morning wake.”
Surprised by the compliment, Wednesday’s facade slipped, her eyebrows raising visibly as a smile twitched at the corners of her mouth. “That’s the nicest thing anyone has ever said.”
“Then I’m glad it came from me,” Enid smiled, taking Wednesday’s face in her hands. “Besides, I’ve been working on my compliments. Figured I’d try one out. It seems that it worked.”
“I’ll admit, you are getting better at it,” Wednesday conceded.
“I knew it!” Enid grinned, silently congratulating herself as Wednesday’s attention drifted elsewhere.
“I’m going to trust you on this endeavor, Enid. More than I’ve ever trusted anyone else. Will you tell me what to do? What you want?” Wednesday asked, worry slipping into her voice.
“Of course,” Enid assured, brushing aside part of Wednesday’s bangs. With a hesitant smile of her own, though it barely moved her lips, Wednesday leaned in to kiss Enid without reservations for the first time in her life.
She listened intently to her girlfriend’s instructions wanting nothing more than to appease her. If it had been anyone else she wouldn’t have cared. Then again, if it was anyone else she wouldn’t be doing this at all. And while Wednesday didn’t feel arousal as intense as Enid or want to be beautifully undone, she savored the warmth of Enid’s body pressed against her own. Or the way Enid’s claws came out to tear up the sheets on occasion, taking special care to avoid Wednesday’s vulnerable body. Her teeth on the other hand were less controllable.
At some point as Enid’s mouth ran along Wednesday’s shoulder, a whine forced its way from her mouth and her teeth, fangs and all, sank into Wednesday’s shoulder. The whine dissipated into a soft rumble that resonated at the back of Enid’s throat as she trapped Wednesday in a suffocating embrace.
The young Addams assumed that whatever goal Enid had been searching for was met, and she was admittedly pleased with herself for being the cause of it.
“Sorry,” Enid muttered, pulling her mouth away from Wednesday’s shoulder looking thoroughly disappointed in herself for causing an injury.
“Don’t apologize. I like the taste of blood... and the pain,” Wednesday insisted, kissing Enid fiercely as the taste of iron settled on her tongue. The gesture only invigorated Enid more, and soon Wednesday was trapped underneath the blonde who kissed hungrily at her neck, shoulders, collar bone and chest. Wednesday didn’t mind at first but soon the sensations became too much, too overwhelming, too hot, and too stifling.
With trembling hands she interrupted Enid’s ministrations and settled her forehead against the blonde’s. “No more.”
“Okay,” Enid nodded, shutting off the part of her brain that pleaded with her to ignore Wednesday’s request. Moving to settle beside Wednesday, Enid watched the brunette intently, worried that she’d made some sort of error until a yawn snuck its way out of Wednesday’s mouth. “Come here sleepy head.”
Wednesday didn’t argue as Enid pulled her close, instinctually wrapping around the blonde like a tiny koala. Enid’s scent clouded her senses and soon sleep settled on the peripheral of her mind.
“Enid?” Wednesday whispered.
“Hmm?” Enid asked, nestling her face in Wednesday’s hair.
“I do love you, you know,” Wednesday insisted. “Sometimes I worry I don’t show it enough for you.”
“Oh Wednesday, don’t say that,” Enid frowned. “You’re just fine, and I love you too. More than you’ll ever know. Thank you for tonight. It means a lot to me.”
“Can I sleep now, Cara Mia?” Wednesday yawned, her head settling on Enid’s chest. She found the blonde’s heart beat comforting, and whenever she couldn’t sleep she’d clamber into bed alongside Enid and simply listen to the muscle at work.
“Of course. You did good. Really good,” Enid laughed, giving Wednesday one last kiss before letting her drift off to sleep. The coolness of Wednesday’s skin was comforting, and as Enid drew faint little shapes over Wednesday’s arms she found herself falling asleep in turn. For the first time in over a week she slept soundly, unbothered by out of reach desires or tempting dreams.

“Enid’s trying to fit twenty marshmallows into her mouth,” Eugene warned, running up to Wednesday as she approached the quad. He settled his hand on her wounded shoulder reminding her of the night she’d spent with Enid only hours ago. Eugene was clueless to the matter and didn’t notice the subtle indication of pain on Wednesday’s face.
“Why?” Wednesday asked.
“Ajax bet her ten bucks that she couldn’t do it,” Eugene informed, guiding Wednesday to the growing crowd. Somewhat curious, Wednesday pushed her way through the throng of people to find Enid at the center of the madness. Her mouth was stuffed full of fluffy white cylinders, her cheeks stretched painfully, but somehow she was smiling. At least, it looked like she was trying to.
“Enid, if you choke I’m going to have to let you die,” Wednesday warned, watching as her girlfriend spared her a wink and excited wave. “It would be a natural consequence. Albeit, interesting to watch the oxygen leave your body.”
“One more!” Yoko encouraged, passing over a single marshmallow that Enid attempted to find space for in her mouth. Wednesday studied the blonde as she managed to jam yet another marshmallow into her packed mouth. Throwing her hands up in victory, Enid aggressively flipped Ajax off as he wallowed in defeat. Seconds later, the blonde was spitting out a plethora of spit soaked marshmallows.
“Well, at least she’s back to normal,” Wednesday sighed, fighting off a smile. It was pleasant seeing Enid return to her usual self. Always causing the bad kind of trouble. By that, Wednesday meant the kind of trouble people actually enjoyed.
“Oh, so you talked,” Eugene smiled.
“You could say that,” Wednesday nodded, a smug expression settling over her face once more. “Although, I’ve come to learn an important fact about Enid.”
“And what’s that?” Eugene asked.
Smiling to herself, Wednesday let her hand ghost to the wound in her shoulder. “She likes to bite.”
