Chapter Text
Cassandra Wayne enjoys bothering her brothers. She likes to check up on them and using the pretense of ‘annoying them’ is the perfect way to get to them.
So she visits Tim at his work, not to disturb but to bother.
She walks into the Wayne Enterprise building, sliding her key card into the.. thing. She is greeted with absolute chaos. She tilts her head and tries to understand what’s happening. It clicks; Intern Training Day.
Tim must be stressed then, she decides. He is always stressed, but change makes him even more so. A stressed Tim is never a happy one, just a real irritated one.
Cass walks further into the building. She notices how some of the intern’s eyes gaze onto her as she walks into the main space. She sighs and quickly finds her way to the elevator.
She clicks the top floor but is held up by a girl yelling, “Wait up!”
Cass places her arm in between the elevator door and waits for the girl to catch up. She scans over her, she is frazzled. Cass gives the girl a comforting smile or rather attempts.
The girl has scars all over her face and hands. It reminds Cass of herself. The girl has a piece of grey in her hair that looks similar to Jason’s skunk stripe as they call it. She has dark skin, and her hair is in braids. Cass thinks she looks pretty.
“Which floor?” Cass asks. The girl takes a moment to reply before saying, “The top is fine.” She gives Cass a smile.
Cass nods and places her hands on her lap.
The elevator music plays. Cass finds it relaxing at times, at others it’s annoying. “Are you an intern too?”
Cass looks at the girl and shakes her head. “I do not work here. I am visiting my brother,” she explains. The girl’s eyebrows furrow. She says, “I thought that was against protocol.”
Cass laughs softly. “Maybe for others, I get special treatment.”
They sit in the comfort of the elevator music for a moment before the girl speaks again, “What’s your name?”
“Cassandra, yours?”
“Annabeth. Nice to meet you, Cassandra,” Annabeth introduces and holds her hand out. Cass shakes it with a smile.
The elevator comes to a stop. “See you around, Cassandra,” The girl says, leaving the elevator. Cass follows but quickly makes a bee line for Tim’s office.
As she walked she thought about Annabeth. It was clear Annabeth was not a native Gothamite by the way she carried herself. This city was new to her.
She knocks on Tim’s office door.
Annabeth was also a fighter. The amount of scars on her proved that. Cass silently hopes that whoever hurt her had been put to justice.
The door opens after a few minutes. Tim is tired. Cass would not have to be an expert in body language to notice that. “Hey Cassie,” Tim greets, yawning quickly afterward.
“Tim,” She replies, walking into his office. The blinds are closed, and the place looks rather messy. Tim sits down in his office chair.
Cass sighs. Being the big sister she is, she begins placing the trash into the can because Tim obviously had no use for it. “You don’t need to do that, Cass,” He insists.
Cass gives him a look that hushes him. Once she’s finished making the room look as clean as possible, she walks over to Tim’s desk and places a kiss on his head. His hair is greasy. How long has it been since he’s showered?
“The interns have stressed you out,” She states blandly. Tim sighs and nods. “I’ve been working on plans for days, and downstairs is still a mess.”
Cass replies, “You can’t fix everything.” Tim frowns but says nothing more.
Cass stares at him for a moment. He is tired and overworked. Bruce needs to take over, she will call him. “You will go home, sleep and hopefully shower,” She declares.
Everytime Tim tries to protest she interrupts with some weird noise. He finally gives in, pinching the bridge of his nose. “One more hour?” He asks with dread. Cass gives in, “One more hour or I will send Dick after you.” He snorts but nods.
They chit-chat for a while before Cass heads out. She doesn’t bother to look at the employees as she walks back to the elevator and pulls out her phone.
Just as she pressed Bruce’s contact, she bumps into someone which is unusual. She is usually more perceptive.
Annabeth, she realizes.
“Fancy seeing you again,” Annabeth says dryly. Cass laughs quietly and gets in the elevator. She does not have time to chat, she must call Bruce.
Cass presses Bruce’s contact and waits for him to answer. He picks up at the second ring.
He answers, “Hello Cass! What’s up?” He sounds happy. Something must’ve happened.
Cass orders, “In one hour, you will come to work and give Tim a break.” Bruce takes a minute to respond.
“I’ll be there in thirty. Is he alright?” Bruce asks, worry flooding his tone. She beams. “He’s okay, just tired.”
Bruce sighs. He is relieved. “Thank you for telling me. See you for dinner?” “For dinner.”
They hang up. Annabeth looks at her, shocked. “You're Cassandra Wayne?” She questions, bouncing on the balls of her feet.
Cass sheepishly nods. Annabeth looks like her mind is going a mile a minute, but she instead decides on playing it cool by saying, “That’s neat.”
Cass looks over at Annabeth who obviously has more questions. Questions that Cass doesn’t quite want to answer, so she simply gives Annabeth a smile.
One that Annabeth returns. It’s not genuine, and instead rather nervous. “No need to be afraid. I will not..,” She thinks for a moment. What was that word Jason favored? Lightbulb. “I will not snitch,” Cass repeats.
Annabeth is silent for a moment before stifling a laugh. “Didn’t know rich people could be funny,” She comments. Cass smirks. “I’m adopted. Naturally the wealthy could never.”
They both stare at each other before breaking out into laughter. It’s the type of laughter that Cass has only ever shared with Steph. The thought warms her heart.
The elevator chimes. Cass is the one to step our first. Annabeth follows suit. “I hope to see more of you, Annabeth,” Cass says as a good-luck. That the girl will get promoted from intern to whatever she wanted to be soon. She seems clever.
Annabeth tucks a stray piece of hair behind her ear. “Here’s to more elevator rides,” She quips while giving Cass a fist bump. The touch feels electric.
Cass waves goodbye and exits the building, ignoring the chaos around her.
