Chapter Text
It was 6 AM. The sky was still dark and Brisbane would soon be in its awake state. The city would begin bustling with its daily activities in a few hours. However for one dog in particular an alarm would ring that would signify the day’s beginning.
Mackenzie arose from his bed and hit the cancel button on his phone. He had just turned 20 and lived in an apartment near his family's old house. The young border collie had a big adventure ahead of him and his friends today, an adventure that he had been looking forward to. He, along with Rusty, Jack, Chloe, and Bluey, would be going on a road trip for spring break.
Before he got out of bed he checked his messages from last night to find that the plan was still on. “Great, No last minute back outs.” he said while getting out of bed.
He moved to his bathroom to take a shower and get clean for the day. While in the shower he thought of the long drive they would all be taking. He knew everyone except Bluey had a license so the four that could would alternate.
“Ok, i need to make sure the truck is ready for the drive real quick and then get some form of breakfast. Otherwise mum would kill me if she was here.” he said leaving the shower. It helped him focus if he said his plans verbally.
after losing his parents a long time ago he had been blessed to have such good friends in his life and he wanted this trip to be somewhat of a thank you to them for all their help in dealing with his depression. and one dog in partuculer ment the world to him even if she didnt know it. he wanted to "thank" her for all her help.
It was now 6:30 AM when another dog awoke. Bluey opened her eyes to see the ceiling staring back at her. The green pastel room she inhabited was now a more deep navy thanks to her painting it a few years ago. She left her bed quickly and grabbed her bag from the closet her father put in. a message in the group chat popped up and she took the time to scroll through her phone to see if she needed to bring anything.
The now 19 year old Heeler left her room with an orange leather bag at her side. The only other person awake was her mother who had just returned from a meeting at her new job. Chilli now worked as a teacher for a school nearby which gave her more satisfaction then her old job at the airport.
“Well this is a shocker, I don't see you up bright and early often.” Chilli remarked. It was normal for Bluey to sleep in because she stayed up later than the rest of the family.
“Oh uhhh.” Bluey replied. Everting her eyes to meet her mother. “Remember how I said I'm going on a road trip for spring break?” she asked, hoping to jog her mothers memory about the trip.
“Oh yeah so that's why. I honestly thought you would pack more than just a bag.” Chilli said. She was somewhat disapproving of the road trip but she wouldn't stop Bluey from doing it. As Chilli could recall she and Brandy went on a similar trip when they were younger.
“Don't worry mum, I have another bag ready, I'm just making sure I'm ready for today.” She said,
The minutes passed and Chilli made them cups of tea to drink while they waited for the sun to rise. “Mum, could you please check my bag for anything I could be missing. I know you used to check that stuff and well, ya know.” Bluey was somewhat of a moron. She was well known for forgetting things and she wanted to be doubly sure she had everything.
“Of course Bluey. Let me see.” Chilli began to dig through the bag that had the essentials. Tooth paste, tooth brush, a small makeup kit, some cash, plasters, bug repellent, and tampons. It was the typical bag you would find a young female like Bluey have on her.
“Well I'd say you're good except for one thing. Your missing birth control pills.” Chilli was a seasoned veteran of bag checking and finished the check within 30 seconds.
“I knew I was forgetting something. But I don't have any. Mainly because i dont plan to have sex on this trip.” she was certain that she would be fine.
“I'm putting some in your bag anyway. I love you too much to possibly get pregnant on a trip like this.” Chilli was adamant on her daughter being careful. Even if she was not going to have sex it was better to be safe then sorry.
Bluey didn't argue with her mother. She knew it would be a lost fight in an instant with the stare being Chilli’s ultimate ability.
Around another 30 minutes later Bandit entered the kitchen to see his eldest and his wife speaking about the trip and where they planned to go. “We're going to Perth because it's the only major city we haven't been to.” Bluey explained.
“Morning ladies, are you ready for your trip Bluey?” he asked. “Yes i am dad, Rusty texted me and said he met up with Mackenzie and they are on their way to get Chloe and jack, and then get me.”
“So how long are you waiting for?” he asked again. “About 20 minutes,” she said.
“Speaking of 20 minutes, I'm going to go get Bingo up. She needs to be there when we see you off.” Chilli remarked as she got up and left.
The 17 year old Heeler was asleep when she felt a hand touch her back. Her eyes immediately opened to see her mum waking her up to see Bluey off.
Once the 20 minutes were up almost like they were on que, a black ute with a ton of storage in the back arrived. “Morning Bluey.” called Chloe who was in the back seat. Next to her was Jack who was on the other side.
“Morning Chloe” she yelled back. Bluey turned around to see her father in the middle while Chilli and Bingo stood either side of him. “Have a fun trip.” Bingo said as she hugged her sister. “You'll have a lot of fun kid i'm sure of it” Bandit also said as he joined the hug. “And remember, we're always here if you need us. Because we love you.” Chilli said being the final one to join the group hug. “Don't worry, I know.” Bluey said as she hugged all three of them back and darted to the truck.
Chloe hopped out and let Bluey into the middle seat in the back and then got back in. Bluey’s handbag was placed where her feet were and she was greeted with Jack next to her and Rusty sitting Shotgun. Mackenzie would take the first shift of driving and once Chloe hopped in they would be on their way.
“So did everyone go to the bathroom before we left?” asked Mackenzie. “Yes”,”yep”,”yeah”,” yes,” the other four said.
And so began the road trip it all started with a quick pit stop at a petrol station to get some petrol for the ute. Once they were fueled up they began their journey for spring break. It would be around 120 Kilometers to their next stop.
Mackenzie’s truck was well kept and made with some powerful mods that made it tougher. It was equipped with extra suspension and a chip in the engine. It had a roof rack and headlights and was overall an extra powerful offloading vehicle.
While Mackenzie drove, Rusty turned on the radio to see what was on. Jack was fidgeting on his phone to help his ADHD which he had gotten better about. Chloe was making a sketch of a cat in her notebook. And Bluey was just there, along for the ride.
Some time had passed. It was about 4 hours later when they made their first stop at a camp on the southern end of Australia. They would be setting up camp at a campsite Rusty had booked for the day. After camp was set up they all spent the rest of the day relaxing in nature.
The next day was another long drive. Chloe offered to cover the first half and Rusty would take the afternoon. They went along the bottom coast of the country. They eventually hit a cool looking cliffside where they would be staying near Melbourne.
Day three of the trip started with Jack Driving and the five of them getting breakfast at a nearby sandwich shop. The sandwiches were great, the diarrhea wasn't. Thankfully Jack and Mackenzie didn't eat theirs and they continued to another location.
Day four had Rusty who had recovered from the previous incident and set off. The five went through a forested area and had a fun time in the warm weather. They also went on a hike to a nearby creek. Bluey pushed Jack into the creek as a joke and didn't expect to be dragged into it by Jack.
Day five marked the latter half of the trip. Mackenzie was first in driving duty and they finally made it to Perth. He and Chloe went to get some alcohol from the liquor store nearby. They came back with The Lost Dog’s high quality Whiskey in Portland Oregon. Apparently the CEO was named Whiskey.
The night of day five was spent at a hotel and not a campsite or the side of the road. It was a nice and relaxing feeling not having to sleep on the ground. As a prank when Bluey fell asleep, Rusty and Jack carefully picked her up and put her in Mackenzies bed. Waiting to see how things would play out.
Day six started with a surprise for Mackenzie and Bluey. Apparently she used him as a snuggling pillow and he thought she was a suitcase placed on his bed. After the awkward situation ended the gang got back in the truck and left to see Perth for a little bit. Once they finished they began the trek home.
Day seven began a little different then the others when Chloe found out she got a promotion for her management job. Rusty learned his dad made a little surprise for him when he got back. And Jack announced he would be getting a new apartment and leaving his parents home in a month.
That night they decided to drink the remaining whiskey that they had brought with them. Bluey had a little because she was lightweight. It was enough for her to be drunk a minute after she finished her third shot. Mackenzie, who was also drunk, swallowed his 7th shot and the two began a conversation while the other three were away.
“Ya know Bluuuuey?” He drew out her name. “I have to admit to something.” he said looking at her.
“What is it? Did you take my journal and rip it when we were little?” she asked, struggling to not laugh
“NO!” he yelled somewhat.
“Were you jealous of Chloe when she got that motorbike?” Bluey asked.
“Not that ether” he sounded more focused.
“Then What?” Bluey said in a sing songy style
“I've always had feelings for you Bluey.” he paused to see if she would say anything back. “ I always thought you were the cutest girl in secondary. You have a charm that not many dogs I know have.”
“What could you possibly mean? I'm not cute at all. If anything Bingo is way more attractive than me and she's not even an adult.” Bluey said suddenly.
“Do you want me to prove you're more attractive than Bingo?” he asked, waiting for her to say yes.
“How can you?” she asked.
“You're still a virgin aren't you? Perhaps we could dance together to prove it.” he said, smiling his face off.
She sobered up a little bit to at least come to her senses. “You and me? Mackenzie if my parents found out i had sex with you they would be upset with me.”
“And how would they find out? It's not like they would purposefully look at your crotch to see if your bubble broke. I may not live with them but I know they respect your privacy.”
Mackenzie had a point. Her parents were very trusting of her. They would never go out of their way to look at what she had down there, because they loved her. And the more she thought about it she knew Mackenzie had a few condoms so even if they did it she wouldn't get pregnant.
“Look if you don't want to, that's fine. All I'm saying is that this trip is life changing for all of us. We should go out of our comfort zone so we can grow as dogs.”
“You know what? For sometimes being a complete drongo you really are smart sometimes. I'm in.” she then paused. “BUT, you're wearing a condom.” she said.
"fair enough, lets just have a fun time."
Needless to say that night was marvelous for the two. They not only enjoyed each other's company but grew as dogs together. It was certainly a weird experience. Thankfully Mackenzie did use a condom and Bluey’s time of the month was next week so they would be fine.
Later that night. What neither of them knew was that the Condom had a very small hole in it. Only a little bit of the holy substance leaked out, and it managed to travel up into the fallopian tube and met with the egg. That night was the night where little did Bluey know, would change her life forever.
“Well I'll never forget that.” Mackenzie said while taking the condom and putting it into the trash.
“Me neither, thank you Mackenzie. I didn't know I needed that but you certainly are a charmer.”
“Do you want to sleep together literally?” he asked her “yeah, i want to cuddle with my Big Strong Man.” she said
Mackenzie Blushed and got under the covers and wrapped his hands around his close and trusted friend. They fell asleep together and when the other three got back they were greeted with a wholesome sight.
“Awww they're adorable.” Chloe said “Jack take a photo of them.” Rusty said as he moved over to get to his sleeping bag. “No need Chloe already took thousands.” he said while going to sleep.
Day 8 was the final day of the trip. It was the most tedious part of the trip where the drive took the longest part of the day. Once they arrived back in Brisbane they dropped Jack off first.
“Good luck Jack. Hope you live well in your apartment.” yelled Rusty.
“Thanks Rusty!”
They continued until they got to Chloe's house where she was dropped off.
“Cya Chloe.” Bluey said while waving from the back of the ute.
“Bye Bluey.”
Mackenzie kept driving and after Rusty made it back to his house in the suburbs, there was one passenger left.
Mackenzie arrived at Bluey’s house and dropped her off with her things. He gave her a hug and hopped back in the truck. “See you in the near future Bluey!” he said as he drove off.
Bluey walked into her house with her bag on her hip and a suitcase in hand. When She knocked on the door it opened to reveal Chilli standing behind it. “Welcome home Bluey, I'm happy to see you after a week.”
“I'm happy to see you too Mum.”
It was a happy reunion of mother and daughter. With Chilli not knowing that in a year's time she would be a Grandmother.
