Chapter Text
Less than three weeks summer was gradually arriving meaning that summer vacations were gradually coming and little Anya was thrilled. No homework, no early waking up and definitely no more stress. No stress? On the other hand this meant that the Friendship scheme would be on hold risking her time to befriend syon boy, leading to her papa’s mission failing. Failing him was not what Anya wanted. For her family! For the world peace!
The school bell rang and as the students picked up their stuff on their way to the very next class room the teacher told them to stop as he forgot the most important announcement to deliver. The Children already at the door waited while the rest of the students sat back to their chairs, the teacher began.
“Children, I believe that it is a well known fact that the annual final exams are on the way. Reminder that the students whose scores reach lower than 50% they will inevitably have to repeat the same class. Meanwhile the passing students, over 50% of their scores, will highly lucky affect your future classes. Meaning you might either be given an advanced or neutral form of study. Class dismissed you may leave.”
Anya along with Becky stood up and left the classroom seemingly confused.
“What does it mean ‘advanced or neutral form of study’” Anya asked Becky expecting an answer from her. Becky unsure tells her
“I don’t know, either. I think that the students with a very high score will have more difficult subjects or something like that.”
Anya still confused wondered how difficult can the subjects get! But then she thought that her chances of passing were a possible thanks to her mind reading ability. It wouldn’t matter anyway. Flashing back to her memory what happened at the entrance exams where nearly none of the other kids could assist her, making her stomach stiffen all of a sudden. Wait! This time is different, wasn’t it? She only had to find the right classmates of her class and cheat. She knows quite few people so it wouldn’t be any difficult unlike the entrance exams.
Syon boy along with his other friends passed them, with Anya noticing him she run after him and pated on his shoulder, getting his attention. The boys stopped and looked at Anya who was still holding Damien’s shoulder. Anya said
“Syon boy…” Becky from behind cuts her off with a grunt and tells Anya
“Anya, why do you keep on talking to that loser?” Anya ignored her and continued “Will your score be 50%?” The two boys chuckled inform of the girls and then Emile ansewered first
“Obviously. Damian will not just score 50%. But 200%!”
“Yeah that’s how smart and educated he is. He is going to pass for sure and then join to the advanced course of studies. For sure!”
Anya then thought to herself that Syon boy could not reach 200%. Since usually the scores are usually around one hundred. She would have to reach to the advanced course of study if that was the case. She would have to follow along with everything she had if it meant for her papa’s friendship scheme to succeed! Everything even if that means that she would have to reach …
“Anya reaching over 50% is possible!” Anya unknowingly talking out loud made her realize something she didn’t consider. Her marks were usually around 30%, at best, which was originally HER greatest accomplishment not failing a single test. But now she had to reach OVER 50%! Becky taped her shoulder advising her that she had to study harder this time around otherwise she would have to leave the academy, but mostly leaving her alone with those losers Anya hearing Becky’s thoughts. Then the young telepath despaired. Why study harder when she already was!
Damian then shove her hand off his shoulder and told her.
“Well, then I guess we should say goodbyes, Skinny legs.” Anya without thinking declared
“Anya will reach more than 50! ” Damian then mocked
“Now in that if scenario happened that would require a Stella star.”
Becky intentionally moved forward passed Anya and looked at Damian and yelled “Stop being such a stupid child!” That moment Anya unintentionally heard one of the boy’s thoughts, we are children. Becky continued
“Anya doesn’t let those idiots affect you. You should try to think of something else for now. I mean we don’t have to worry that much. After all who cares about the advanced studies? And why would you care, Anya!” Anya that moment realized the necessary conditions that she would have to do. By entering the advances form of study that would mean more homework, more attention, less time for watching ‘Spy wars’, less time trying to help papa’s mission. Much more likely allowing Damian’s father to start the war between the two countries, she thought. The room felt like it was watching her or so she thought. However for a moment and so she looked back, only to not see anyone from the back…
Was her father around school again? Maybe not… Whispering thoughts were heard from far.
(Interesting young girl, we’ll meet me when you are alone).
Anya couldn’t distinguish those noises as thoughts or actual noises the others could hear too. Anya shivered out of hibijibbies grabbing the rest of the kids attention. Anya decided to forget it for the time being, pretending she didn’t hear anything.
“I have an idea, who ever scores over 70 they will have one request from the five of us.” Emile proposed. Upon hearing that Anya improvised a plan in her head. She imagining herself if she gets 70% she can ask Syon- boy to invite her to his home for a playtime then her papa will meet with the bad mastermind and end the war. Then World Peace!
“Deal!” she responds. The three boys mocked Anya’s simplicity as they left as Becky requests to turn it down. Anya denied.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After school Loid headed to the bus stop to pick up his daughter, right after a last minute mission. As soon as arriving home Loid noticed something unusual in Anya’s usual routine. First Anya was not talking at all and after that she rushed quickly to her room. Normally he wouldn’t question much about Anya’s behavior but knowing that this kind of made him bit anxious. So he decided to check on her and confirm if anything was bothering her. Was she afraid of something? Were the rest of the children picking up on her? Loid wondered. He gently peeked through the doors keyhole and witnessed something that he never expected him to ever cross his mind. Anya, his adopted daughter, was in fact quietly doing her homework. Anya was studying after school hours? For a second he doubted his own vision that was playing tricks of him, after all secondary missions was draining his stamina by the day. But no it was real.
Loid took a moment to accept this moment a real because the Anya he have grown so accustomed with, would take the chance to play with Bond or her toys, reading manga or pretending being a secret agent around the house. He was absolutely sure that Anya wouldn’t even handle her pencil in her hand if Loid wasn’t so persistent so Anya could study. Bond came over Loid and passed him, with his paws he pulled over the door opening it then excitedly waving his tail he enters in the girls room, who she didn’t acknowledged anything.
Loid didn’t want to panic her. But he wanted to open the discussion in a light way and see what made her so eager to study right after school. Even if Anya was an unpredictable child, Loid could feel something being wrong.
“Anya is something wrong? I mean it’s much too soon to study.” (Much too soon and suspiciously easy all of a sudden for Anya to study all of her own) “Don’t you want to prepare you a meal, to eat?” Loid suggested and he did win the conversation.
“You see” Anya explains to Loid the exams qualifications in order to pass. Loid could feel the anxiety flowing all over him. How on earth could he be able to help her to achieve over 50% over the exam? She could get some assistance from a few tactics and maybe achieve the 50%. Barely passing, that is. On the other hand it was obvious that Anya really wanted to reach that 70% for some reason. He attempted to ask Anya what was the main propose for doing that and Anya said that it was for her to prove her worth. She explained to her father that she wished she could do best with her grades the entire year and so achieving a very high score could, make him and mother proud. Also, this occurred of a bet she and the youngest boy of the Desmond’s had made about reaching 70% the final exams.
“Studying for you own worth is not worth it, Anya. Just focus on what difficult or you can’t understand and try your best. As for your friends it’d best to forget it.” Loid advised Anya.
“But I can’t!”
“No one will judge you if you chicken out, after all it’s not like anyone doesn’t’ believe you won’t pass.”
“But..”
“No buts. I know how this scenario goes. And I know that you will burn out your mind trying to get a seventy present grade.” With what Loid just said Anya imagines herself dressed up in a full chicken suit reading with smoke getting out of both her ears. Truly disturbing imagination, even for her, but it definitely wasn’t like her mother’s thoughts.
Anya even though she felt defeated with the conversation with her father and then came up with of another person who could potentially help her, that wasn’t her mother, her uncle or uncle Scruffy. It would be a pure self torture but it still could be worth the try. Or better attempt. It was for the operation after all.
“Fine.” Anya said, and left her notebook on the table and stood up from the office, showing to Loid that she did listen to him. Loid smiled and Bond’s tail began being waived. Anya smiled and then she unintentionally head Loid’s thoughts he recapped all this year’s achievements with in a flash, and he was fine with the friendship Anya has earned with the Desmond’s kid. Bringing back the conversation Loid reassured that what he said, it wasn’t to hurt her but it was to help her understand that sometimes it is ok to say no. He knew Anya hated studying and the Academy has exceptionally high standards on its principals when t comes to their teaching. All he wanted was for her to be doing her best. Anya once again agreed with Loid, but she knew what he wanted the most and she wasn’t sure this time if she could. And yet up until this time noting hasn’t stoped her. Why should she now?
“What subjects will you have to focus on?” Loid asked
“Eh, I have Reading, history, math … and science.” Anya Explained.
Loid that moment felt a chiver down his spine. More than what he already had before from the question. He already knew the subjects, but hearing them out of Anya reminded him, her study for the midterm examination where she barely passes. At this point, he had to warm up a bit. Anya had to prepare herself bowl of cereals without the help of her father, who had started re-watching the cartoon getting all prepared to quiz his daughter. While at the same time Anya leaned over Bond and asked him to predict anything.
