Gifts and Things

Summary:

Sirius and Regulus are wrapping presents.

Notes:

Disclaimer - I don't own Harry Potter. This was written for the Froday Winter Calendar 2022 using day two prompt "throwing presents at ppl." Implication given that this is part of a series that the unnamed character is Olivia Granger and the baby is Hermione Granger, but this can also be read as a stand alone piece if someone wants to.

Work Text:

WHACK!

Sirius stared, his hand still raised from where he ’d thrown the package, his gray eyes wide as he stared at his younger brother. “Uh….”

The present slipped down from Regulus ’ face to land in his lap while Regulus acted as if it didn’t happen.

Uh, Regulus?” Sirius asked while Regulus focused instead on the colorful papers and ribbons strewn around him, carefully wrapping the present in front of him, still acting as if a gift hadn’t just hit him in the face. “Earth to Regulus.”

Sirius, don’t throw presents at your brother,” someone else said. “Please.”

Sirius took a deep breath, looking at her. “He was supposed to catch it.”

And what if it was breakable?” she asked.

Sirius grimaced as Regulus wrapped the present, not using magic at all. He tilted his head, perturbed by how content Regulus was doing non-magical things. “It wasn’t.”

Regulus finally reacted, his finger pointing at another thing, not saying a word, as he had become quite picky in what he chose to say, or perhaps becoming even more particular was the better explanation, as Regulus had never been one to converse. It simply became less, yet laughter became more frequent, a laugh escaping Regulus as he actually smiled at his older brother.

Ah. Yes. Don’t want to hit the baby,” Sirius said, pushing his lips together, still bothered by the fact his brother now had a kid. And then, “Hey! I wouldn’t have hit the baby! I thought you were going to catch it!”

Regulus let out a laugh before continuing to wrap presents.
