Work Text:
“Why are you back here?” Percy asked, not turning to look at the figure standing next to him.
“Why are you still here?” Dionysus countered. He knew why of course, Percy had agreed to take over Dionysus’ position on a permanent basis years ago.
They both remained still after that, settling down to stare out over Camp Half-Blood. Percy’s eyes caught on the lazy curl of smoke trailing up from the Hephaestus Cabin before moving onto the moon’s reflection in the lake.
“I thought you’d be off with Ariadne by now,” Percy eventually broke the silence. He tried to keep his tone neutral but the answering chuckle said he failed miserably.
“Apparently she rather enjoyed having me - how did she put it? Out from under her feet ,” Dionysus mused.
“And you decided to come here?” Percy almost laughed.
“And I decided to come here,” Dionysus agreed.
Percy glanced at the god curiously only to find gorgeous purple eyes staring at him. A younger face and riotous curls.
“For any reason in particular?” Percy heard himself ask, he’s not sure if Dionysus had pulled the words out from his throat or if his mouth is running before his brain could catch up. Either was definitely possible.
“I can think of one or two,” Dionysus hummed. His eyes scanned Percy’s face looking for something.
Percy wasn’t sure what but he decided in the next moment, when Dionysus leant in, that the god had found something .
