Del's Mural [Fanart for "To the Tensions It Creates"]

Summary:

In chapter 4 of "To the Tensions It Creates" (a Hob Gadling/Dream of the Endless fic), Del is late to dinner because she and two friends are working on a mural that is a "Dadaist thingy," a "train that was also a peacock" involving oil paints, newspaper cutouts and water colors.

This is my take on the mural.

Notes:

The relevant quotes:

Del’s hands fluttered anxiously around her as she spoke. “Erm, so, it was kind of this, erm, Dadaist thingy of, like, a train that was also a peacock and, erm, I was using paint but my friend was using images from newspapers and glue and her friend was using some, like, natural dyes, but then eventually that was getting gross so he got some water-based paint but I was using oil-based so it was a different enough texture and, erm. Yeah.”

Del ducked out from behind her and waved cheerily at all of them, her mismatched eyes sparkling. “Hello!” She was covered head to toe in paint, some of which was still wet: drips of red and blue and black, splatters of yellow and brown and white, and splotches of orange. She was a Jackson Pollock painting in human form.

Chapter 1: The Mural

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

a multimedia image of an old steam train with a peacock painted on top of it. The peacock head is pointing backwards and blowing the words 'chu chu' behind it in a cloud of brown smoke. Fish in blue, green, orange and purple fly in the air. Below the bird-train are the words 'go birb go' decorated with flowers and birds.

Notes:

  • The train is apparently one manufactured by Beyer, Peacock Manufacturing, which I feel is appropriate
  • I got attached to the idea of the peacock train saying "chu chu" because it's a train, and also it's cute. All of the letters are cut out from the Chicago Tribune's logo because 1) it has all the right letters, 2) the fic series is a love letter to Chicago theater, so it's appropriate and 3) I like the font.
  • I don't have oils or natural dyes, but I do have both water color and acrylic. The bird's head, wings and feet are in acrylic, along with the smoke, the little birds and the flower petals. The tail, the flying fish and the flower leaves are in water colors.
  • Delirium is often shown with little flying fish over her head in the comics, so flying fish.
  • Red, blue, black, yellow, brown, white and orange all make an appearance :)
