Deaths Plan for Their Master

Work Text:

Death looked down at Their favorite human, Their master.

Fate raised Its brow at the intense look Death took on. "What are you thinking?"

Death turned to glare at Their oldest friend before giving in with a sigh. "I want him to have another life. To give him happiness before he takes his rightful place as my master. He's had a tough life, Fate.

"You know all humans must."

"Can't you help?" Death snapped."I can give him another life, but I need your help to make it worthwhile."

Fate looked down at Earth and then back at its friend. "What are you thinking?"

"Tony Stark?" Fate asked Death dreadfully. "Yes!"

"They both suffered immensely, and it's your fault."

"What about Morgana? She is destined for great things as well, as you know. You've stopped her death several times already!"

"Because I understood your plan, as it was necessary for this Universe. But what about another?"

"Death.."

"Fate, please?" Death pulled out a desperate pout, making Fate cringe. "What a human thing to do."

Death grinned, but that soon turned to a grimace with Fate's next words. "Shouldn't you ask him first?"

Death hummed, turning away, and looking back down at her Master. Their master did not love Ginny Weasley, as she did not love him.

"I'm sure he'll be alright, just this once."

Fate put on a sneer, "ask him, or I'm saying no. As will the rest of the board, as you should know."

Death grumbled, making Themselves appear far younger than they are. "Fine!"

"Master."

Harry was asleep, laying beside his wife after a rather annoying bout of lovemaking when Death appeared in his dreams. "Death."

"You know what I prefer, Master, please call me that."

"Apologies, Morty."

"It's fine, Master."

Harry sighed as he glanced around the room white, as normal with nothing but him and Death. "Is this important?"

"Seemingly. Do you want a better life, master? One where you are happy?"

"Morty, I am -"

"Master, with all respect, you are not happy. I can sense it as well, as you can sense magic. I'm not willing to leave you this way. Say yes, and everything can change."

"Death," Harry repeated sternly, "I'm happy -"

"What do you feel when you look at Ginerva Weasley?"

Despair, Harry thought faintly. "Love."

"Stop lying to me. What do you feel when you see Ronald?"

Anguish, he thought. "Friendship."

"Harry, we are getting nowhere."

"I thought you weren't allowed to call me by my given name?"

Death shrugged, and though he could not see it, he felt it. "Can you trust me, Master? I can help you along, sir. Always will."

Harry bit back a snarky reply, biting his tongue in the process. "Fine," Harry gritted out. "Fine."

Death cheered for Their master and became to wave their hands. "Wait! Hold on!"

Death paused in Their haste. "Yes?"

"I want to die and for me to get a new life. I don't want the people I left behind to just disappear; I want the same universe."

Death silently groaned before giving Their master a tight nod. "I'll try my best."

"No! Death, I told you, it's another universe or not at all!"

"We can stop the war without Morgana! You know it's possible!"

"Not with a lot of blood, and you despite what you may say I know you hate to take lives that don't have to be taken!" Fate shook its head. Why was death so insistent on this?

"Ask Time."

"No," Time declared as Death stepped closer to him. "I didn't even -"

"My answer is no unless you ask Magic. He is more magic, more powerful than I will handle."

Death smirked, "Magic already knows."

Time sighed, not even doubting the statement. Death and Magic often teamed up for their favorite human.

"Fine. If Fate agrees, I don't see why not," Time groused angrily. He had better things to do than this.

They held the ritual on Harry's twenty fifth birthday, all the elements of immortality, Death, Time, Magic, Nature, Fate, and War. They led by Deaths plan, and swore at Them when it was complete. Before them, on the Earth's floor, was a boy. Dirty brown hair with bright emerald eyes, skinny, but this time not from starvation. Well, not just from starvation. The effects of the Dursleys was still very much there, but less pronounced now.

There, on Earth's floor, was a five year old Harry Potter. They watched as Fate's mind ticked, and Time froze as he saw the boys future.

A smile graced his lips after a moment and him and his lover locked eyes. "Be as it may, you might have been right, Death." Fate turned away from its lover, giving Death a small grin of her own. "Maybe," Time declared, agreeing. "Maybe..." Nature sang, getting a vision of her own. Definitely, Death grinned. Definitely, Magic nodded to herself.
