Work Text:

Asami knew what she said didn’t have any true meaning to it. Korra was always charming! Not just in front of people. She treated me like a princess. I had some apologizing to do. While she was in the bathroom, I went ahead and darted over to Starbucks to surprise her with her favorite drink. Yes, her drink of choice was odd, but it was strangely delicious and very refreshing for this hot day. Her iced matcha lemonade with 3 pumps of raspberry and a toasted blueberry scone. She couldn’t be mad at me now, right?

I had sent her a text telling her to meet me near the carousel. As I began my approach, she was not looking any happier. She was on the phone, and I could only make out a small portion of the conversation.

“I don’t know, Mom!” She sounded frustrated. Did I really make her that mad?

“Look, we’ll just have to see how the night goes. Currently though, I really don’t feel like asking. She kind of hurt my feelings.” There was a brief pause, probably for her mom to give her response.

“I know, I know.” Oh no, she sees me. “I got to let you go Mom. I’ll call you later this afternoon.” She nodded her head. “Yeah, I love you too. Bye”

I slowly made my way to sit down next to Korra. “You didn’t need to end your call because of me.”

“No, it’s fine.” She wouldn’t even look at me.

“I brought you a peace offering.” Korra finally glanced at my hands and saw the bright green drink, but she didn’t dare express any emotion.

“Thanks.”

“Kor, I am so sorry for snapping like that. Honestly, my jealousy got the better of me in that instance. I had just watched you flirt with 3 very beautiful princesses, and I maybe lost my temper a bit.” I placed my hand on her arm reassuringly. “I just hate seeing you make other women blush and it brings out this jealous bitchy side to me that never existed until I met you.”

Now Korra was trying to hide that dopey grin.

“Just promise me that I am the only woman you will ever made blush like that again! Even if they were just ‘actors,’ I only want you to have eyes for me.” I paused thinking I may have overstepped. “Actually, that’s wrong, I shouldn’t ask you to do that.”

“Of course, I only have eyes for you Asami! I love you so sooo sooooo much and I will never intentionally make another woman blush again.” She wiggled her eyebrows at me. “But I can’t help it if it just happens naturally… I am quite ‘charming’ I hear.”

We both started to laugh after her dorky comment.

“I love you too. Again, I’m sorry. I will try better at not overacting.” She squeezed my thigh, and we sat there sharing the scone. Her with her green drink and me with my pink drink.

“So, how are your parents and Naga doing?” Korra’s parents volunteered to watch Naga while they were away. Asami had asked them specifically to stay at her and Korra’s house to watch Naga for them. In order to convince them she had to let them in on her little secret. She wanted them to be there waiting for the happy couple to come back so they could all celebrate together. Well, she was hoping there would be something to celebrate, assuming Korra would give her the answer she wanted.

“They’re doing good! Except Naga keeps waiting at the door for me to get home. Plus, she goes to your workshop every night to see if you are there. She really loves you, you know. She never acted that way with anyone else.”

“I really love her too! She seriously is the best dog a girl could ask for. I am very lucky to have both of you in my life.”

Before either of us could get emotional, we finished up our snack and discussed where we would wander off to next.

“I think the parade is getting ready to start! Why don’t we go find a spot so we can get a good view?”

“Perfect! Let’s go!!”

We watched the parade and danced along with the performers. Korra sang out to all the Disney songs, and I made sure to record her in order to show this to our friends later. Everyone loved giving her a hard time about her love of all things Disney. There is nothing wrong with loving Disney, but Korra was overtly passionate about it, while the rest of us weren’t. Just one of the many reasons why I love her. She didn’t care what anyone thought. She was unapologetically herself.

Just as Korra was singing her heart out to Let it Go when Anna and Elsa were floating by, Asami’s phone buzzed. A text from Mako.

Mako: Hey Asami, just checking in. I hope everything goes well tonight! I am so happy for you and Korra. And don’t worry, I know she is going to say yes.

Asami: Thanks, Mako. I am getting very nervous! Plus, Opal and Bolin will be cutting it very close with timing.

Mako: You got this! Call me later tonight with the good news!

Asami: Hopefully it’s good news.

Mako: It will be. Smiley emoji, thumbs up emoji.

The parade was finished, and I don’t think I paid any attention after my texts with Mako. My mind was only thinking about tonight. There were so many things that could go wrong, and I was thinking of every single one of them.

For starters, Opal and Bolin could get here late and I will miss my opportunity. Sure, I could do it another time, but it would so special tonight! The ring had been hiding out in the workshop for weeks while I gained up the courage, and now that I finally have, my chance could be gone. The ring. The ring that I had specifically designed for Korra. She wasn’t one for jewelry typically, but this ring was all Korra. A white gold band with diamonds along the sides of the pear center. It shines just like the blue in Korra’s eyes.

What if Opal and Bolin don’t get in here in time? What if they lose the ring in transit? What if Mako shows up and confesses his love for Korra and she runs off with him? What if Korra realizes she doesn’t want to be in a relationship with me? What if I propose and she says no?

All these scenarios keep plaguing my thoughts.

Baaabbbbeee!” Korra snaps me out of whatever trance I was in. The parade having been over for at least 5 minutes. A look of concern on her face. “You okay?

I take her hand in mine. “Yeah, I’m fine. Just thinking about…” I realize I should stop.

“Thinking about anything in particular?” Her look of concern turned into worry.

I needed to be quick with a response, but what should I say?! Then it hit me.

I leaned in close and whispered in her ear. “Oh, I was just thinking about what I wanted to do to you later.” My lips laid a kiss on her cheek, and I noticed a pinkish color on her face.

She had the biggest, dopiest grin on her face. “And what do you have in mind?” I had piqued her interest and she raised an inquisitive brow.

“You will have to wait and see!”

“Come on! Maybe just give me a sneak preview?” She started to lean in for a passionate kiss. Quickly, I snuck away and started to run towards our next destination.

“Asami, you going to leave me hanging?” Her eyes were still closed. “Asami?” Her eyes opened and she darted up immediately. “HEY! You are going to regret that!” She playfully started to chase after me and I turned to flash her a mischievous smile.

She was fast. I didn’t make it far before her strong arms caught my waist and she pulled me in and kissed my neck. “Just see if I put out tonight.” She wouldn’t dare.

“Hmph, I’d like to see you try.” I turned and planted a kiss on her lips. She is in for a big surprise tonight, there’s no way she’ll be able to keep her hands off me. It’s taking all I have to not take her back to the hotel and have my way with her right now.

She grew slightly defensive. “I can abstain from sex! Just you watch.”

“Okay, well starting now,” I separated myself from her, “I bet you can’t go the rest of the day without showing physical affection for me.”

“Does that include hand holding?” She didn’t actually think she could do this, did she?

“Hmmm, I will allow hand holding.”

“And what do I get if I win?” She was really interested!

“If you win, we can stay another day and go to a different Disney Park. But if you lose, I will abstain from sex with you for the next week.”

“Yikes! Are you sure that you can hold out for that long?”

“Well, I said ‘sex with you,’ that doesn’t mean I can’t have fun with myself.” I was having too much fun teasing her.

“Oh, now that is torture!” She almost melted at the thought. “Ughh, fine you win! There’s no way I can keep my hands off of you for the entire day!” She brought me back in and held me close breathing in my lavender shampoo. “Now please, can we go get some lunch? I am starving and I need a distraction from all this talk about sex.”

“Yes, let’s go find something good to eat!”

I can’t wait to ask this woman to marry me.
