Work Text:
Asami never sweat! At least, she “thinks” she never sweats. But this Florida heat was different. The humidity was killer, and it was affecting her make up and her hair.
“Let’s see… It looks like Cinderella, Rapunzel, and Tiana are here right now.”
“As long as we are indoors for a few minutes, that’s all I care about right now.” Asami felt like she was drenched in sweat and her hair was a frizzy mess.
Korra on the other hand, acted like it was the South because she was in her element! Almost like she could control her body temperature no matter how hot or cold it was outside.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about! It feels great out here!”
“Look at me! My hair is a disaster, my make up is running, and my shirt is soaking wet!”
“Again, I don’t know what you are talking about. All I see in front of me is the most gorgeous being on the planet.” Korra gave me one of her signature lop sided grins and wrapped her muscular arms around my waist pulling me in.
I just looked at her and raised an eyebrow. “You’re just saying that because you are trying to butter me up for Starbucks after this right?”
“NEVER! You really are the most beautiful woman on the face of the planet and no amount of sweat or frizz is going to change my mind.”
I pecked her lips but smiled and went in for seconds. This time, the kiss lasted longer than a few seconds until a sudden comment tore up apart.
“Mommy, look!”
Our eyes shot towards a little girl pointing in our direction. Her mouth was agape and she stood there staring at us like we were part of the park. My mind immediately goes into defense mode. This will not turn into a spectacle. She could show her girlfriend affection with no worry of judgement from people at Disney World.
Before her or Korra could get a word out…
“Those 2 ladies love each other like you and Mama!”
Just then, 2 women were standing there holding the little girl’s hands. “Yes, baby. They are here celebrating their love just like Mama and me.” They strode over to us and one of the women whispered in our direction. “Sorry about her, she gets excited whenever she sees other couples who resemble our family.”
Korra looked at me endearingly. “It’s okay. It’s sweet actually. We were too quick to jump to worst case scenario at first.”
The family bid goodbye and were on their way.
We looked at each other lovingly and clasped our hands together as we made for the princess encounter.
In the line, I used this opportunity to check out my reflection in my compact mirror. Despite Korra’s compliments, I didn’t see what she saw. I looked a damn mess! I reapplied some make up and patted down my hair, and also put my hair in a high ponytail to help cool down my neck.
“So, who is your favorite Disney princess?” Korra asked.
“I would say Mulan, but I guess technically she isn’t a princess, right?”
“Technically… They consider her a Disney princess because of her act of heroism. She is quite the bad ass. I can see why you like her!” Her expression was quite daunting.
“I see that look you’re giving me. And no! I do not see any similarities between you and her.”
“Are you sure about that?” She wiggled her eyebrows at me and flexed her flashy muscles.
I crossed my arms and gave a smirk. “I’m positive. Me dating you had nothing to do with my feelings towards Mulan.” She didn’t look too convinced. “What about you? Who is your favorite?”
“Personally, I’m a fan of Jasmine. She is a strong independent woman! And you know how I love that in a girl.”
Okay, now she was really trying to suck up.
“You are too much sometimes; you know that right?” She grabbed my hand and kissed each knuckle. “And yes, we can get Starbucks after this.”
Her fists burst into the air as if she won a race. “YES!”
Standing in front of them was Princess Tiana herself. Korra approached first and said something to her before I could make out a giggle on the princesses’ face. Her hand was covering her mouth in a very courteous way. She playfully put her hand on Korra’s arm, and I couldn’t help but feel a mild bout of anger for Korra was her girl. What did Korra say to make her blush like that! Was she blatantly flirting with a princess in front of her own girlfriend?
The photograph was taken quickly, and we were off to another line for Rapunzel. “What did you say to her to make her react like that?”
Korra gave a devious grin, “wouldn’t you like to know.”
“I would in fact like to know.” I couldn’t hide my disdain.
“I only said the truth, that I was a frog until I was kissed by a princess.” She had the cheesiest smile on her face.
“I can’t take you anywhere, can I?” But this did make me chuckle. My insecurities got the better of me. Of course, she was talking about me.
They called us forward to meet Rapunzel and Korra obviously had to say something to earn a laugh from the long-haired princess.
She arched her eyebrow, “You ever get tired carrying all that hair around all day? Or do you have staff that are the royal hair carriers?”
I rolled my eyes, but the young lady was very sweet about her response.
In her very best Rapunzel voice, “Actually, I have grown accustomed to carrying my hair, and as you see, it’s done a certain way to make it easier for me to get around!” She was stroking her golden locks and we gathered closer for our picture.
We thanked her for her time and headed to the next princess. It was Cinderella.
“Are you going to try to make a fool of yourself again with this one Kor?”
She looked offended at the comment. “Huhh, I never make a fool of myself!”
Marching over to the line without me, she remained quiet and distant the rest of the wait.
When it was our turn, she quickly made way for Cinderella, glancing over her shoulder at me. Before I even got past the cast member at the front of the line, Korra was whispering something in Cinderella’s ear. As if she knew it would annoy me to openly flirt with yet another person.
Cinderella gasped and had the biggest smile on her face. What could she possibly have said now?
They were hush hush as soon as I got there. Cinderella smiled at me and commented on how ‘charming’ my girlfriend was. I may have been snarky and said something along the lines of ‘yeah, when she wants to put on a show.’
I don’t think Korra liked that very much because she stormed off as soon as the picture was snapped.
I bid Cinderella farewell and could see the look of pity she had on her face as I turned to face the consequences of my unnecessary words.
Why am I feeling this way? I know Korra loves me more than anything and she would never hurt me by flirting with a girl in front of me.
I was insecure. With everything on my mind for my plans for the day, I couldn’t help but be a little on edge. My plan was riding on the fact that Opal and Bolin needed to be here at a specific time!
As I exited the building Korra was nowhere to be found. Asami’s phone went off. It was a text from Korra.
Korra: I went to the bathroom around the corner.
Asami plopped down on the bench nearby and noticed a missed text from Opal.
Opal: Bo and I got on a flight that gets in about 7 PM! We didn’t bring any check in bags so we will be there as quickly as we can! I’ll text when we land 😊
Well, at least they’ll be here for her plan to work. Now, she just needed to apologize to her girlfriend. Who knows… Maybe by the end of the night it won’t be girlfriend anymore, but instead, she will be able to call Korra her fiancé. That is, if she hasn’t ruined her opportunity just now.
