Work Text:
As we made our way off the most recent ride, luckily Korra did not scream as much as she does at night, I checked my phone and realized I had a text from my best friend.
Opal: Hey, sorry to bother you but give me a call as soon as you can and make it as inconspicuous as you can.
Knowing what this was most likely regarding I quickly come up with a reason to be alone for a few minutes.
“Hey babe? Do you mind going to grab me a bottle of water please? I’m going to run to the restroom, and I’ll meet you outside!”
Korra let go of my hand and gave a quick peck to my cheek, “Of course my love, anything for you!” That cocky grin plastered to her face. “Don’t be too long!”
When she was out of sight, I grabbed my phone to call Opal as I headed in the direction of the bathroom.
“Hey Opal, we just got off a ride, what’s up?”
“So… we might have a problem with the surprise…”
“You have got to be kidding me! What’s the problem?” Asami was not having it, this was going to ruin everything.
“Well-” There was a long pause.
“Opal, I don’t have time for this, Korra could be here any minute!”
She decided blurting it out would be best. “BOLINANDIMISSEDOURFLIGHTANDNOWWEAREONSTANDBYANDWEMIGHTNOTGETTHEREINTIME.”
Asami could only roll her eyes and let out the most disappointed sigh on the face of the planet. “It’s fine I guess… I just really wanted to do this tonight! And I can’t believe that I left the damn thing there.”
“Don’t worry! We will try our best to make it there by tonight! Just try to stall as best you can and I will keep you updated when we catch a flight and such.”
Her hand was now running over her forehead in distress.
“Alright, thanks Opal. Have a safe flight. Bye”
She didn’t even let Opal finish, she hung up and made her to the bench where Korra was already sitting.
“Sorry, I got a little lost on my way to the bathroom.” Asami sat next to Korra and thanked her with a kiss.
“It’s okay!” Korra noticed she had a concerned look on her face. “Is everything alright? You look upset about something.”
I realized that I was not doing so well at hiding my emotions at this time. “I am fine, I just missed you is all!” I turned her face with my fingers and placed a very chaste kiss on her lips. “Where do you want to go to now?” Try to get her mind on something else so she’ll hopefully forget.
“If you say so…” She didn’t sound so convinced. “How about Haunted Mansion?”
“YES!” I sprung to my feet. “I heard the cast members that work that ride are intentionally mean and scary like.”
“Hmmm, sounds like a challenge for me! I bet for sure I can crack a smile.”
“I’m sure it will be fun for me to watch you try.” We both laughed at that.
Our walk to the next ride was quiet. She intertwined her fingers with my mine and I couldn’t help but get closer to her and use my opposite hand to grip her bicep practically hugging her arm. I was still disappointed my plans for the day were ruined. But she couldn’t blame Opal and Bolin for missing their flight. I did ask them to do me this favor very last minute. It was my fault for forgetting it any way. I could have sworn I packed it! Why didn’t I double and triple check my luggage! It’s not like I didn’t pack 3 suitcases and a carryon…
Asami tried to not get her hopes up, but she couldn’t help but wish they would get there prior to the nightly fireworks and she could still go through with her surprise.
“Alright, I think this is the line! And there’s my first test subject! Let’s see if I can crack a smile.”
I know Korra thinks she is hilarious… But her jokes are not for everyone. She tells terrible ‘Dad jokes’ and yes I may or may not laugh at them, but it’s mostly because she’s too cute to not humor her with a giggle.
Korra approached the cast member who had a scowl on her face. “So, have a joke for you. Why did Goofy wear 2 pairs of pants when he played golf?” She paused to give her a minute to respond, when she just rolled her eyes, Korra said the punchline. “Because he was told he could get a HOLE IN ONE” She wiggled her eyebrows very impressed with herself.
That did not even phase the worker because she scoffed and turned around to let guests from the fast pass lane move through.
“Guess she doesn’t have a sense of humor.”
I placed my hand on her shoulder, “I though it was cute! Just like you when you are being a jokester.”
Before I could wrap my arms around her neck, there was a tug on Korra’s shirt. We both looked down to see a little boy with a Pluto hat on and had the sweetest smile. “I liked your joke! It was really funny!”
Korra was beaming. “Thank you! Want to hear another one?” She was too excited about this. Someone who actually liked her joke.
“Yes please!”
At this, Korra squatted down to be more at the little boy’s level. “Why shouldn’t you give Elsa a balloon?”
The little boy shrugged.
“Because she’ll,” in ‘sing-song fashion,’ LET IT GOOO, LET IT GOOO!”
That’s all it took; the boy was laughing. “Wow! You’re really good at telling jokes!”
Korra beamed with confidence after his comment. “Thanks! Maybe you can come up with some jokes yourself.”
After that interaction the line started to move. Once it stopped again I wrapped my arms around Korra’s neck finally. “You’re much better with children than I am.” I whispered in her ear.
“You’re good with Tenzin’s kids! You always have been. And they love you! Although, not as much as me.” She said as she kissed my arm that hung around her shoulders.
“Have you ever thought about having children one day?”
That question seemed to have caught Korra off-guard and she turned to face me. “I don’t know, I mean I thought about obviously. Probably back when I was dating Mako any way.”
“Oh- but not since you’ve been with me?” I couldn’t help but look saddened by that comment. Did she not want kids with me? Why would she want kids with Mako but not me? Does she not think I would make a good mother?
“Of course I want kids with you!” She took my hands in hers. “We’ve never talked about it and I wasn’t sure how you felt about it. I guess we never really discussed that aspect of our future.”
She could tell that the comment affected me and pulled me in close for a hug. “I would love to have children with you Asami. Whether we adopt or use a surrogate or if one of us wants to carry. I want nothing more than to eventually have a family with you. I love you so much.”
“Thanks Korra. I love you so much too. And I haven’t thought about it too much myself. I never saw myself having children, but recently… I don’t know. With you, I can’t help but think about the future. And in that future… I want a family… With you. I don’t know what form of having a child I am comfortable with yet, but I know that I can’t imagine not sharing the experience of raising a family together.”
At this point, both of were almost in tears when we made it to this little room with picture frames lining the walls. We were being directed to the far end by one of the cast members who showed no sympathy for our almost tear-filled eyes when she told, “you cry babies” and pointed “that way.” That remark snapped them out of it and they both laughed.
The front of the line was within our sights and soon enough we were sitting side by side in the ride cart? Is that what it’s called?
The ride was good, not my favorite but Korra quite enjoyed it. She loved the movie and so she was excited to see how that was incorporated into the ride.
“That was awesome! I loved the part of the talking stone heads. So good. Where to next babe? You pick!”
I tried to come up with something that was not a ride considering I needed a break and maybe somewhere indoors that we could get a break from the heat with.
“How about we go get some pictures with the princesses! I think there’s like a Hall of Princesses or something.”
“That works for me!” Korra surprisingly pulled me in at the hips. “But just so you know, you are the only princess I need.” Before I could respond, her lips were on mine and believe me, if this day wasn’t so important for many reasons, I would have taken Korra back to our hotel and showed her who the true princess was. Oh well, tonight she will find out.
