Don’t die without me

Work Text:

“You’re burning up.”

“You’re cute when you worry about me.”

Two pairs of lips slid against each other, the sweet taste of vanilla passed between them as they continued to speak.

“Are you saying that’s normal?”

“I’m saying that it is for me, love.”

One hand slid up between two boney scapulas over velvety skin covered in scars and blemishes, and the fingers gently cupped the back of an equally boney neck. Two shoulder blades rose against the arm, the bumps of her spine rolling against his skin.

“I don’t like when you make me worry.”

Yet another kiss brought them both to silence, a harsh breath escaping her mouth once she pulled back from his set of now-red lips.

“Well that’s a pity,” She whispered, the words seeming to float in the dense air that clouded around them like steam. “It’s how I know you care.”

“Is that really the only way?”

“Oh please, only jokes, dear.” She giggled softly, pressing her forehead against his with her crystal blue eyes fixated on the small inch of space between them while her legs wrapped around his soft waist. “I can see it in your eyes.”

“I’ve been told my eyes are frightening..” He mumbled, gaze moving to the wall next to them.

“Oh, they are.”

Again their lips met, tongues seeming to melt together as the embrace became more passionate. The tan hand that had found its way to her waist only became tenser, fingers squishing into her soft skin longingly. “Do you like being frightened, Rosa?”

“Only when I see fit.” Her bare torso peeled away from his, both of her hands reaching up to support her weight on his shoulders.”Most of the time I find it irritating, not many can make me fearful but the ones who do trample on my esteem.”

“Your esteem? Oh, darling, I’m sorry.” His eyebrows threaded, a look of genuine worry twisting over his face which was only met with another small laugh.

“I said when I saw fit, right?” Two of her fingers rose to his ear to tuck a piece of stray blue hair behind, leaning in to kiss the rough, scarred skin on the right side of his face. “The type of fear you give me is exhilarating.” A smile painted his face in time, bashfully looking to the side.

The dark made it hard to see how red her face had become.

“You’re adorable when you smile... I wish you’d show your teeth more.” The two fingers in his hair ran back down his jawline, parting his lips so she could revel in the terrifying sight of a set of sharpened teeth. “Like pearly gems, diamonds to be specific.”

His teeth parted. Her fingers ran further into his cheek, pulling the skin slightly to the side while she worked.

“How is burning up natural for you?” He asked, voice muffled by the digits pressed against the inside of his cheek. The pads of her fingers ran along his skin as she pulled them out, a trail of clear saliva connected both until it broke like a thread.

“Have you forgotten?”

“Oh, of course not.”

“That’s why, dear.”

“I thought that you would be colder now, perhaps too cold. I’d gone so long on that impression.”

“Oh, it’s some scientific bull that I’m not too well versed in.”

A short sigh escaped his nose, eyebrows once again furrowing in dismay.

“You’re worried again.” He nodded, heart skipping a beat when her whole, warm palm rested against his even warmer cheek. “And now you’re the one who’s burning up. You feel like you have a fever, dear.”

“You’re lovely enough to give me a fever, I wouldn’t be surprised.”

“You charmer,” The twist of a smile transferred to his lips, matching her’s with his own.

“I love you,”

Instead of a verbal response, her other hand cupped the rougher side of his face and pulled him even closer. Both of their eyes closed, their vision remained as touch. Bare skin brushed up against itself, both warm and slightly damp to the touch.

The room would have smelled bad to anyone else, but in their passion neither of them cared.

“I love you too.”

“Saying that after is almost redundant, dear.”

“I don’t care, if I had to hammer it into your head I would.”

The sharp hiss of breath pierced the air, another sweet kiss cutting them both off before they could talk uselessly again.

“Do you remember what happened back in Sumeru?” He chimed.

“We were there for years, love, a lot happened.”

“When Lisa was trying to make us an item, back when we were kids and I was oh, so shy.”

She laughed, nose scrunching up. “During spin the bottle when I pretended to gag?”

“Did you mean that?”

“Not at all, you were the best one there. I was just prissy.”

“What does that mean?”

“Stuck up.”

“That’s a good description, in that case.”

A line of sweat trailed between her chest, the small bumps from her ribcage that pushed against her chest and stomach making a road for the bead to run down. His heart rate picked up as he followed the drop with his eyes, imagining it as a scalpel instead.

Her insides must have been perfect, a sick desire filled his face with blood.

“If I were to die, what would you do?” She cut the silence with a question, fingertips seductively running over the scars trailing down from his chest.

“I’d insist on doing your autopsy.”

“How romantic.”

“I believe it is, if anyone else were to tear you up like that would be disrespecting you.”

A cheeky smile spread across her face. “And with you it’s not?

“Well I hope you wouldn’t consider it as such.”

“Oh no, no. Even if it was, I’d trust you to disrespect me fairly.”

“Even if I had to peel your skin off I’d do it with the utmost pride and poise, if you were burned to a crisp you’d still be beautiful.”

“I hope my death comes soon, then. I’d hate for your hands to be too old to be precise.”

“Oh please, don’t wish that, Rosa.”

“Only joking, sweetheart.”

“I wish you wouldn’t, bad luck comes from wishes.”

“I have incredible luck, I have you.”

Before he could respond, resisting yet again to her relentless jests, she caught his lips with her index finger and rested it gently on top, forming a plus sign. “Ah, ah! This is a nice moment, Zandik. We shouldn’t fight.” With a heavy heart he agreed, his chest sinking against her palm. “Good..”

“I just love you too much, I can’t stand thinking of that.”

“I love you more, I promise I’ll be careful. Just for you.” The skin on her thigh peeled away from the side of his torso, flattening against the sheets as she got more comfortable.

“You should be careful for yourself as well.” He added, petting the hard flesh on her back lovingly.

“I am,” Rosa introduced, “It’s just that I think of you while I do.”

“You’re awful.”

“And you love that.”

With those last few words, Zandik’s eyes fluttered open to the morning sun flooding into his bedroom. How tragic.
