Work Text:

Aizawa made sure everyone was sit and calm before talking.

“Now, we don’t know which are the effects of this quirk, so I want you to stay here until we discover something.”

“Could you stay here with us?” Denki asked, raising his hand.

Aizawa wanted to say no to him, to explain that he should have been with the other professors trying to figure it out what happened to them, but when he saw the worried expression Denki had on his face, he surrendered, and nodded, sitting again on his chair.

“I don’t feel safe in here.” Izuku talked softly, with a slightly trembling tone.

“What the fuck are you saying now, nerd?” Katsuki yelled at him, but the whole group turned to look at Izuku.

“Bakugo, mind your language. Midoriya, what do you mean? Do you feel something wrong?” Aizawa looked at his student, serious and thoughtful.

“I would like to go home.” It was Hanta who spoke this time.

“I don’t, I’m afraid to spend time with my whole family now.” Shoto responded.

“At least, you have a family.” Eijiro said back, instantly feeling guilty.

“Don’t say shit! You have two mothers who love you, shitty hair.”

“Bakugo!”

“I'm just saying that at least he's lucky to have two decent mothers.”

“They are never there when I go back from the dorms!”

“Children,” Aizawa tried to interrupt the discussion.

“My mother was absent too,” Hitoshi said, ignoring Aizawa’s attempt. “I never met my father, but professor Aizawa and professor Yamada are great as parents, I feel safe with them.”

The whole class was now looking at Aizawa, shocked by the revelation.

Aizawa looked at his son, wanting to smile because this was the sweetest thing he heard from Hitoshi since he and Hizashi decided to adopt him.

Now that he had everyone's attention though, Aizawa shook his head and tried to speak again. “Children, I don’t know what’s happening here, but I think it’s related to the quirk. Now I want you to stay here until I go talk with my colleagues and come back here, okay?”

Denki tried to stop him again, but Hitoshi stepped in, approaching his companion and trying to assure him that the professor would be right back.

Aizawa left them, and reached his colleagues quickly, fearing that the situation might worsen in his absence.

“You are professor Aizawa’s son?” Denki asked again, now trembling in Hitoshi’s arms. Hitoshi nodded.

“Could you tell me why are you trembling, Denki?” He asked, not daring to release the hug.

“I don’t know what’s happening.” Denki said, unable to calm down.

“None of us know.” Tenya said, rigidly.

“But I’m not smart as you are, I’m afraid.”

“No need to be, Denki. The professors will let us know everything when they’ll have some information.” Hitoshi said, he said, releasing the hug just to make Denki sit on his lap and be more comfortable.

“You two are so natural together.” Shoto said, looking almost confused. “I don’t really understand how you can put yourself in someone's hands like this.”

“What the hell?” Katsuki looked at him. “We work good as a team, you, me and the nerd.” Katsuki's attention instantly returned to Izuku as he mentioned him. It was he who had started the conversation, and he hadn't spoken since. “Izuku, what’s happening?” Katsuki stood up, not sure how to act.

He was still trembling, but unlike Denki, who expressed his worries and was now quieter, Izuku remained silent, looking down, and seemed to be on the verge of a panic attack.

“Man, are you okay? Talk to us.” Eijiro looked at him, worried.

Katsuki approached him but not enough to touch him. “Now, breath with me, Izuku, and explain to me what’s the problem.” Katsuki crouched down to make sure he was in Izuku's line of sight, and took a few deep breaths. Izuku tried to follow suit, and when he succeeded, he reached out to take his hand. “I feel like a fraud, Kacchan.” He said, almost crying.

“What? Why?” Now Katsuki was kneeling on the floor, his attention now fully turned on him.

“I don’t know if I’m strong enough to become a real hero. I don't even have a quirk that I know how to control like all of you. I'm only good at talking too much and putting others in danger.” He tried to pull his hand away from Katsuki's grip, but he held it tighter. “You were right, Kacchan. I’ll never be able to become a good hero.”

“Don’t say that, Izuku. You already are a good hero.” Shoto spoke first, because Katsuki couldn't put two words together after what he had heard.

“I’m an idiot.” Katsuki said, after few seconds. “Don’t listen to me when I say bullshits like this. You are strong, you are one of the strongest in our class. You’ll get to control your quirk in no time. When that happens, I want you by my side, Izuku. It’s our dream since when we were kids, remember?”

Izuku nodded, and slowly stopped trembling.

“It’s not like we all know what we are doing here, guys.” Tenya spoke softly, less rigidly than usual. “Rules are the only sure thing for me, that's why I insist so much on enforcing them. I don't know how to act otherwise.”

“We like when you do that. It's reassuring to have someone responsible.” Eijiro said to him. “Sometimes you exaggerate, that’s true, but that’s not bad. We can always talk about it when there’s a problem, that’s the manliest thing.” Eijiro then looked at the others. “You know guys, I really am happier when I am with you all. I never thought I’d meet a group of people I could consider a family like you all.”

Professor Aizawa came back at that moment.

“And professor Aizawa is the best professor I could ask for.” Eijiro added.

“Thanks child.” Aizawa went to lean on the desk in front of them all. He glared at Denki, but Hitoshi nodded to reassure him. Katsuki stood up again, but he didn’t move away from Izuku. “We discovered the nature of this quirk. It’s called True nature.” Aizawa begun to explain. “It brings out the most hidden part of people in different ways, ranging from unusual honesty to behaviors that people usually keep to themselves. It's not serious, its effect should wear off within an hour, but I think in any case you're getting along here together, right?”

“Professor, I don’t understand.” Shoto raised his hand.

“Speak, Todoroki.”

“I don’t really know how to be honest. I mean, I’m used to keeping everything to myself.”

“You know, what you said is already an honest admission.” Aizawa noticed. “And I think you can talk about everything with your friends.”

“I’m not used to do that. I mean, I talked with them about something. Izuku and Katsuki know about my abusive family, but I don’t know if I have something else to talk about.”

“I like listening to you when we read manga together. I like your view of the world.” Hanta said, leaning from his seat to pat his friend on the shoulder.

“Is that really important?”

“It is. This way, I’ll always know what you think about things, and I’ll know when I can come to you for advice.”

“Why do you want my advice?”

“Because I like you, and it’s important for me.”

The two boys looked at each others in silence for a few moments.

“I’m sorry, I really don’t know how to act normal sometimes, but I like you too, Hanta.”

“I don’t need you to act normal, Shoto. I only need you to be yourself. You can talk to me about everything, every time you need to.” Hanta reached the other one again, but this time, Shoto took his hand in his, and smiled.

“You know children. I like when I don’t have to address you ad problem kids.” Aizawa said, looking at his students proud of them.

Denki wrapped himself in Hitoshi's arms.

“You okay?” Hitoshi asked, kissing his forehead.

Denki nodded. “I’m sorry. I know I can be dumb sometimes.”
“You are not, Kaminari.” Aizawa said, calm. “It’s not a problem if it takes a little bit of time for you to understand things. Your friends here are really a supportive group, I don’t think it’s a problem for them to help you.”

“It’s not.” Eijiro assured him.

“We are always here for each other.” Tenya said, nodding.

“That’s what heroes do.” Katsuki said, looking at Izuku.

“That’s what friends do.” Hanta concluded.
