As your birthday was coming up, Bucky had decided to surprise you. Even when he had just fought in a war, even when Steve had died a few weeks ago of old age - Bucky had still stayed in his plan to surprise you. He felt like he owed you as much, when you had been amazing, never losing hope to get him back.
So he had found this beautiful little bay at the edge of the forest - you could see sunsets there and birds singing. And he had decided to arrange a surprise for you there.
And when your birthday finally came, he put a blindfold on your eyes and guided you to the bay. And as soon as he removed it, your eyes widened in shock.
“Bucky, I…” you gasped at the sight of a blanket spread inside a tent, and seeing all kinds of nice things to eat inside - sleeping bags were folded nicely at the corner of the tent, indicating you would spend a night in there.
Bucky sighed and gestured towards the tent. “I know this isn’t very romantic, but…”
“It’s romantic enough for me.” you interrupted him and grinned. “Bucky, you made the effort to do this for me - for us - even when it’s been very stressful for you. Like you just lost Steve, your best friend.”
Bucky smiled sadly. “He always said that you’re the best thing that has ever happened to me. He saw how happy you make me. I think he’s there watching us and giving me an angel’s brofist.”
“That does sound like Steve.” you agreed, giving a faint smile at the thought. “He got the love of his life, and so do we.”
Bucky smiled and leaned in to place a faint kiss to your lips, and murmured, “Happy birthday.”
