Every Goddamn Year

Summary:

Izuku, along with his partners and friends, have become Pro Heroes. Shockingly, for them at least, they are rocketed to the top of the Hero Rankings almost immediately.

What is much less surprising, is that every year, Izuku has some other ordeal going down right before the rankings are announced and he is named the #1 Hero. Some of it stupid and embarrassing, some of it scandalous, and some of it genuinely heartwarming! But always full of the nonsense our Chaos Children can bring!

Notes:

Anyone who follows me on Tumblr will have seen a chunk of these ideas. I just decided to give them more attention while procrastinating on a different fic so ya know. RIP.

Each chapter is going to be a different year during their lives. And there are some headcanons/plotlines I have in my overall AU that will get a passing mention. I'll elaborate if I feel the need to but for the most part it's in passing.

Also if you see me ever make mention of a character who died in Canon: No you didn't.

Chapter Text

It was supposed to be a lazy day off. Everyone was still waking up. Getting coffee, starting breakfast. Perfectly peaceful for once.

Only downside was that Izuku was working. Two days into a case that had led him to a city a few hours away. But such was the life of a Hero. Especially ones who had been pretty much handling pro work since their first year of high school.

Still. It was nice and quiet. A perfect little domestic moment.

Until Katsuki came sprinting into the livingroom, absolutely cackling. That was rarely a good sign.

She leaped over the back of the couch, tackling Shoto to steal the tv remote. Naturally this resulted in a game of keep-away. A good five inch height difference meant that Shoto's arms were just long enough to make sure Katsuki couldn't reach.

“What in the world is going on?” Ochako sighed.

“You won’t believe what Deku is up to!” Katsuki said, still trying to grab for the remote.

“Oh did he call?” Eijiro asked, half the question garbled by a yawn.

“No just- hey!” she exclaimed, that distraction letting Shoto get the upper hand and flip her over.

“It is too early for this,” Shoto said.

“Fine, poptart,” she rolled her eyes. “Just turn on the fucking news!”

Shoto complied as the other two came around to the couch themselves. Didn’t take long to make out that it was a Hero vs. Villain fight. They spotted Izuku pretty quickly too. Just follow the tendrils of Blackwhip through the dust and rubble back to green hair.

                Yet….

“Why is he in his underwear?” Ochako sighed.

“No damn clue!” Katsuki snickered. “I just saw that he was trending and had to see why!”

“Pretty sure the half-destroyed building in the background is the hotel he was at,” Eijiro said. “Guessing something happened.”

“I am glad he chose normal boxers today,” Shoto said. “Can you imagine if he was wearing one of the hero-themed ones?”

“Oh he’s going to be embarrassed enough when he snaps out of ‘Hero Mode’,” Ochako shook her head.

“He is never living this down,” Katsuki said. “I don’t even care that ‘nearly naked takedown’ will win him last minute points toward the Hero Rankings.”

“God I totally forgot that’s happening this weekend,” Eijiro groaned. “First year we’re officially on the rankings. Wonder where we’ll be?”

“Considering all of high school was ‘unpaid internships that had us doing professional-level jobs’,” Ochako huffed. “I suppose higher than most.”

“Lemillion, Nejire Chan, and Suneater all got shot up to the top fifty right after graduation,” Katsuki said. “Wouldn’t be surprised if we get there too. We got a lot of attention during All That, and it hasn’t really gone down.”

“Here’s hoping one of them knocks my dad out of the top spot,” Shoto said. “Though his PR team has been working hard, we work harder.”

                “True,” everyone nodded.

One week later. The former ‘Chaos Class’ as Aizawa had called them lovingly(even if he refused to admit it), along with a handful of friends they’d made from the B class, the Support team, a few underclassmen who had been adopted in, and one or two other Heroes they’d befriended at work, were gathered to watch the news as the Hero Rankings were announced.

All of them were floored as the record for ‘Youngest Top 10 Hero’, a record previously belonging to Hawks at age 18, was obliterated several times over.

As it turns out, all the stuff the ‘Chaos Class’ had done since their first year of UA had gotten attention. A lot of attention. Far more attention than any Hero Students would usually get. Especially as they were basically doing the work of Pro Heroes despite being students. In fact, the only thing stopping them from climbing the ranks had been the fact that they were underage students, and thus ineligible for the Pro Hero Ranking list.

Which meant that, as soon as they were eligible, that all stacked in a sense. Their ratings skyrocketed. They’d proven themselves as capable as seasoned pros, which got them plenty of cases to close. All of which culminated in an immediate slam to the top.

Everyone was too in shock to speak. Several had gone full catatonic. Because what in the goddamn.

Phones were ringing like crazy. Friends and family who couldn’t be there calling to congratulate, most likely. But none were answered.

“Oh my god,” Izuku exclaimed, first to break the silence. “Oh my fucking god. That fight in my underwear is still trending! People are going to look me up and they’re going to see that! They’re going to look up the new #1 Hero and see THAT!!”

Well. The realization did seem to break the tension for most people. A good few chuckles rang out at that.
