Work Text:
Reagan hadn't shown up at work, and Brett was worried.
Thankfully, nothing serious had happened and everyone in the office understood the chain of command well enough to not cause a bunch of trouble in Reagan's absence, but her absence was still concerning.
Reagan hardly ever missed work. Work was her entire life. Hell, she'd given up the first man she'd ever felt a true romantic connection with for her work. Something must've been wrong if she didn't show up.
Taking matters into his own hands, Brett put Gigi in charge and drove over to her place to see what was wrong. Upon pulling into the driveway, he tried calling her, but the call didn't go through. With a sigh, he got out of his car and went to the door.
To his surprise, her front door was unlocked, meaning she was either in the living room (and therefore not too concerned about a break-in because she would be the first to know) or forgot to lock it the previous night.
He walked in and found her... Lying on the couch.
"Reagan?"
"Oh, Brett" she replied, briefly trying to sit up before wincing and lying back down. "Hi"
"Are you okay?" he asked, his concern for his friend growing more and more by the second. "You didn't show up to work"
"Sorry"
"No, it's fine, I just-"
"I woke up in a lot of pain" Reagan cut him off, seeming a bit embarrassed at that admission. Brett frowned. He knew she had a lot of issues with pain, but it had never been bad enough to where she missed work before, at least not in the time he'd been working with her. "And, I haven't been able to get up from this spot"
"Oh, geez" Brett hissed sympathetically. Reagan didn't say anything. A part of her felt ashamed, like she was better than this. "I'm guessing that means you haven't been able to take any meds or anything"
"Correct"
"Okay. I have ibuprofen in my bag for when someone in the office gets their period, so you're in luck" Brett chuckled to himself before finding his way to his friend's messy kitchen and getting a small glass of water for her. He handed her the water and two pills, which she quickly downed. "Have you eaten today?"
"No"
"Alright" Brett nodded. "I put Gigi in charge of the office, is that okay?"
"Yeah, she's the least likely out of any of those dumbasses to burn everything down"
"Good, cause I'm staying with you for the day"
"Brett..."
"You are in pain" Brett told her flatly. "I am not going to leave you alone to deal with it, okay? I'm here to help. That's what friends do"
...
"Thanks"
