Chapter Text
Jake collapsed into the mattress all while wearing his loose hoodie and sweats. They just wrapped their first day of performances in Osaka, and Jake knows that he needs to unwind and get some sleep before heading to the city for the second day of their concert. He attempted to shut his eyes and fall asleep, but his wired and euphoric mind prevented him from doing so. He's feeling a lot of different sentiments, including excitement and happiness as well as the awkwardness of sharing a room with his best friend, Sunghoon, once again. For the nth time, they both lost in paper, rock, and scissors. Since the beginning of the tour, the members have had to play the game of "paper, rock, scissors" to decide their roommates. Sunghoon has always been paired up unexpectedly with him, which is fantastic because they are the best of friends—at least it would be if it weren't for Jake's stupid feelings, which he usually gets when they're alone themselves and causes them to spend the vast majority of the night bickering and watching football games.
Jake opens his eyes when he hears the door open, and there he is again, trying to avoid the air with Sunghoon and acting like he is in a deep sleep, which is not very successful when Sunghoon pokes his sides and he cowers. Jake tries very hard not to make any noise, but he is too ticklish, and he falls down the floor, laughing as Sunghoon tried to reach for him to tickle him more
"Wash up!”
Sunghoon's deep and loud voice permeates the room, and Jake simply covers his ears, plopping down on the floor to pretend to sleep and not hear him. Sunghoon stands up from the mattress and retrieves his suitcase to get his toiletries. "Okay, I'll wash up first."
“No, me!” Jake rushed towards Sunghoon and seized a hold of his biceps to stop him from taking his stuff.
The room was again full of two voices laughing and arguing about who should wash up first. With his two massive arms encircling Jake's torso, the taller is able to hold him from behind. Sunghoon lifts Jake, who is now sitting on his lap, as he reclines on the mattress.
Sunghoon laughed, and Jake could feel the heat of his breath on his nape as he said, "I'll let you go if you let me wash up first."
Jake could have resisted Sunghoon's grip around his waist, but he'd be lying if he said he didn't enjoy being held by Sunghoon in this way. He is aware that it is merely a polite gesture for Sunghoon, but the static electricity coursing through his body tempts him to kiss the younger despite his best efforts to resist.
“I'm older. I should wash up first, you know."
Sunghoon draws Jake closer to him while tightening his hold; as he giggles, his nose is already in friction with Jake's back. Sunghoon briefly put aside his thirst to bicker with Jake in favor of admiring the person who was sitting on his lap. He also took advantage of the pleasant sensation of holding Jake in his arms. He has a lot on his mind right now that Jake tends to be the source of all the solutions, so only he can ease.
“Jakey?” Sunghoon slowly releases his hold on Jake's waist and places his chin on the older's shoulder.
Jake only hummed in response, which Sunghoon found to be really gentle and soothing. While having second thoughts about grasping Sunghoon's free hand and tying it to his, Jake placed his head on the other's head. Every time he and Sunghoon are paired as roommates, his hand has been straying for a while, but tonight he lets go and entangles his fingers with Sunghoon's soft ones. The thing with Sunghoon is that he will always allow Jake to act foolishly in his presence, including this. It's not at all absurd. It might be romantic.
"You took bed selcas while I wasn't here?"
"You'd tease me." Sunghoon brushes his thumb on Jake's hand after Jake noticed he was holding it near to his chest.
"It's because you look pretty.”
Sunghoon repeats the same thing over and over, but it never fails to make Jake feel out of breath as his gut goes crazy, tangles endlessly, and feels like it is becoming tighter. Sunghoon takes their tied hands up to his lips and softly kisses Jake's hand. As he catches a glimpse of this beautiful moment, he fears that if things continue as they are, he will always cling to this feeling and refuse to let go.
"Are you going to let me wash up first?"
Slowly shaking his head, Sunghoon chuckled slightly. Hearing Sunghoon chuckle is always fascinating because it is a rare sound that only comes when he is with Jake. Jake may be making assumptions, but he discovered that he knows everything there is to know about his best friend, including how his laughter alters around him.
"We will stay like this for a while."
Sunghoon tightens his hug with his free hand and sniffs Jake's scent, which has always been recognizable to Sunghoon and is distinct to Jake.
Have minutes passed? Hours? Jake has no idea and can't recall how long they've been holding one other like this, but one thing is certain: Sunghoon may feel the same way about him. Those nights when Sunghoon would catch him for a hug every time his favorite soccer team scored, or when he would order food for the two of them despite having decided not to eat. After the night he nearly confessed to Sunghoon when they snuck out of the hotel room to go for a midnight stroll, was he naive to think that Sunghoon would feel the same way about him?
Jake was so lost in contemplation that he didn't notice the younger snoring behind him. He got Sunghoon into bed with care and then reached into his suitcase for his makeup bag. He took the cotton pad, poured the makeup remover on it, and gently tapped the cotton pad on Sunghoon's fair face. Although Jake is unaware of how skin care products work, he has seen Sunghoon apply them to himself repeatedly and has learned which to apply first through last.
There are technically two beds in the room, but they only ever use one and bicker over who has the larger space. When the company pays for their accommodations, who the hell cares if they use two beds? There is no possibility of separating Jake and Sunghoon. How incredible is it that even the game of rock, paper, scissors couldn't even separate them from each other? Producers, directors, and even the members enjoy pairing them up.
"Jakey, please go wash up."
Jake, as usual, is startled by occurrences, and Sunghoon will always admire him for being cute and pretty. He tossed a pillow at Sunghoon, but the younger just caught it and held it between his arms while keeping his eyes closed. His smile is obvious, and his rarely seen dimples are appearing.
"Aish, Sunghoonie!"
Sunghoon marveled at how endearing Jake sounded when he's irritated. Eyes closed or not, he can still see Jake's flawlessly symmetrical face. Despite the fact that he interacts with many people every day while on tour, Sunghoon only seems to be able to recall one particular person, and that person isn't in the audience; instead, it's the person who is always by his side encouraging him when the performance is coming to an end and they have to wrap it up.
"Wash up now, you stink."
"But, you are sniffing my pillow. I don't seem to stink, at all!”
“Make sure I can see you the next time you take a bed selfie.”
Slowly opening his eyes, Sunghoon crept to Jake, who was sitting on the edge of the bed, and embraced him. He gave Jake a pat on the head, then gave him a tender kiss on top of his head before bringing him back to bed.
"Perhaps we can just wash up tomorrow."
