"Here, buy yourself something nice," Augustine said, tucking a bill into the front pocket of John's shirt.
John pulled it out and looked at the money, then looked at his boyfriend, then looked at the money again, then looked at Augustine again and said, "This is one dollar."
"Well, I don't exactly have a lot of disposable income on a college professor's salary," Augustine replied.
"Yeah, unfortunately the only thing you can do with a philosophy degree is teach philosophy, as you're so fond of saying."
"I found that dollar in an old jacket I haven't worn since high school."
"... I still feel kind of bad taking this from you. I mean you're so broke that you still live with your brother."
"I own the house. He lives with me. And besides that, it's not like I don't charge him and Cristabel rent. Although, of course, Cris is completely annoying about it and calls it giving me my allowance, like I'm her sugar baby or something. Stop laughing, John."
"You can't just tell me that Cris treats you like her sugar baby and then expect me not to laugh."
"It's not like I'm actually her-"
"Wait, wait," John interrupted him. "Do you guys have sex?"
Augustine remained silent for several long uncomfortable moments before admitting, "Yeah, I get pegged every Saturday night, it's a whole thing... oh god, I really am her sugar baby."
He seemed rather distressed by this realization.
"Now I really would feel bad taking this from you," John said, and handed the dollar back to him.
