    His thumb brushes softly over the birthmark by Buck’s eye. God, but he does love this man. “I want our first Christmas together to be perfect.”

    Chris, from his place on the couch, surrounded by ornaments, scoffs. “This isn’t our first Christmas together. We’ve been doing Christmas together since I was seven.”

    Eddie rolls his eyes fondly. “Our first Christmas in love, then.”

    Chris rolls his eyes, too. Eddie has a moment to think I’m raising a great kid who is a lot like me and sometimes that’s annoying. “My point,” Chris holds up a red ornament to inspect, “still stands.”
