Chapter 1: Popping the Question..

Chapter Text

The Raven dance wasn't too far away but Wednesday never really enjoyed dances; they all made her want to scratch her eyes out and step on shards of burning glass. All the dresses and loud music wasn't really her style. She would rather much prefer staying home reading some books or finishing writing her novel. But all of this stuff was in the back of her mind. Right now she was standing outside Xavier's shack. She knew he was hiding something.. especially after seeing those long scratches on his neck. She takes a couple steps within the shack.. it's surrounded by paintings and drawings of the monster she had once seen weeks ago, the one that saved her life from Rowan's crazy ass.
Wednesday didn't even seem that shocked.
Wednesday cocked out of her mouth "I suppose every artist needs a muse."
Wednesday looks around onto Xavier's desk to find some drawings of where it looks like the monster may live and she almost smirks "Xavier you've become that much more interesting" talking to herself as she pockets the drawings and sneaks back outside of the shack. Walking straight out without hesitation was definitely a mistake because as soon as she heard Xavier's voice and footsteps she knew she was caught unless she made up some sort of excuse.
"Wednesday." Xavier seems confused and walks towards her. She stops dead in her tracks and turns around.
"Xavier.. Hello" Her deadpan face still looks suspicious. Xavier questions her
"What are you doing" Wednesday had no excuses left in her brain

"Nothing. I just saw you come out this way. What is this place?" Wednesday shifts her eyes to the old shack. Xavier doesn't take his eyes off of her but he does motion his hand to the old shack
"It's kind of my private art studio. I cleared it out , and fixed it up so Weems let me use it."
"How very entrepreneurial, I'd love to see inside. Why don't you give me a tour" Wednesday was almost completely sure that it was him, That he was the monster doing all these killings.
Xavier was just staring at her with a slight open mouth for a second admiring her a bit before closing his mouth and responding
"Not right now. It's a total mess" She pretty much brushed this response off of her shoulder and persists
"I Shadowed a crime scene photographer last summer. I'm not easily fazed." Wednesday was almost too persistent to the point Xavier almost said yes but he had a little more control then she did.
"Maybe another time" He puts his hands in his pockets as men subconsciously do this to gain dominance. She clearly was losing him. "Why were you looking for me?" Wednesday can see he looks desperate , But she had no excuses.
"I wanted to go over Mrs. Thornhills Homework assignment.." Wednesday knew Xavier her lab partner in Thornhills class would love to give her the homework answers but unfortunately Xavier doesn't even hesitate before responding
"She didn't give us homework. Remember?"

Crap now she was stuck. Being caught in a lie was worse than needles on a chalkboard. This made her sweat, Her hands got all shaky and she had to swallow the lump in her throat. "Why are you really out here." she didn't reply as the lump in her throat must've been caught just like she was. Xavier tilts his head down to look into her eyes below her bangs. "is this about a certain dance that makes you want to poke needles into your eyes, perhaps?" He had a little smirk on his face that almost made her wanna roll her eyes if she weren't stuck in such a predicament. "I'm all ears” Xavier seems way too excited for something she hadn't said a word about. Dances are stupid you jump up and down and dance to music while your feet are in pain from the torchier device called heals.
Sometimes intentions melt in unexpected opportunities.

She thinks for a moment. How could she refuse such an opportunity to be up and close with a possible serial killer.
"Are you really gonna make me ask" It's not like she wants to go, it's more like.. gaining information.
Xavier smirks and cocks his hand before sticking his hands back into his pockets. "Oh absolutely" He was for sure getting on her nerves with his smirk and the way he was nodding and cocking his head if her nerves weren't freaking out already. Wednesday looks everywhere but his eyes. She wasn't ready to be put on the spot like she usually is. Wednesday takes a weary sigh already knowing Xavier was smiling obnoxiously. Wednesday pushes out
"Would you.." She pauses with self hatred and disgust. "Would--" She was stuttering like a mad man. Confronting people was her specialty but being confronted surely wasn't. "Would you possibly consider going to the Raven dance with a certain.." She interrupted herself again. Yes she might've not asked someone to a dance before but she never knew it would be this hard. She surely thought her dead pail face would've turned bright red and Xavier's nodding to every word surely didn't help. When she finally looks back up at him she can see how patient he was being with her; it almost made her smile. almost. "Would--" She paused. "Would you like to go to the dance with me" God she was so embarrassed. But Xavier's bright smile almost warmed her up.
She already knew his answer.
He Chuckles out before responding quickly "Yes, Wednesday i would love to go to the dance with you" He stopped briefly before continuing "I thought you'd never ask"
She doesn't know how to interpret this feeling she started feeling but it was different. It was a heat building in her stomach almost like she was being tickled from within. Last time someone tickled her they lost a finger. She hates the feeling.
She turned around and gritted her teeth “Neither did I" she grinded out before walking away and rushing back to her dorm. Wednesday throws herself onto the bed and punches her pillows almost like Enid would do. Enid was surely rubbing off on her but she couldn't tell if it was in a good way or a bad way. Wednesday snapped herself out of her tantrum and thinks. Thing walks up to her and watches her think.

Enid rushes into the room with a bright smile on her face "Wednesday guess what! You'll never believe who asked me to the Raven" She squeals. Wednesday was sure she knew who asked Enid to the dance. Wednesday lets out a sigh and sits up.
"Was it Ajax?" Wednesday was never really sure of what to make with Ajax after he ditched Enid on the blue moon. She found some rage deep in her heart for that stunt. Enid's Smile blows up higher and she nods and spins a bit because of how happy she is. "Why are you going wit him I thought he broke your heart or something" Wednesday looks at Enid with a confused look.
"Turns out he just stoned himself in the mirror so he couldn't come isn't that crazy!" Wednesday couldn't actually believe that excuse but knowing Ajax it could well be true but that's not on her mind right now. "So Wednesday do you have a date to the dance? I mean you could be my date! My bestfriend date! we can wear matching outfits and snoods and--" Wednesday interrupts Enid. Even the thought of going to the dance makes her stomach drop.
"I have a date" Enid almost look in shock and jumps onto the bed making Wednesday back up from her a bit
"SPILL!!" Enid was such a... sweet individual but she had too much energy for Wednesday to take in. It will take a while but she'll get used to it. Wednesday cleared her throat.
This was very hard for her to say even if it was to Enid. She didn't want any rumors to spread around but its not like she cared anyways, right?
"If you tell anyone ill tear all of your plushies" Wednesday gives Enid a stern stare and Enid locks her lips and throws the key making Wednesday making her a little more comfortable with telling her.
Wednesday takes a deep breath. "Its Xavier Thorpe.. but there's nothing between us"
Enid's eyes expand

"Really! Awww you guys would be such a cute couple! we need to get you a dress!" Wednesday looks too her closet. She thinks she has enough clothes but she shrugs.
"I guess." Enid yanks Wednesday out of bed and drags her into town (literately) and takes her to a shop called 'Hawt couture'. Wednesday thought it was a stupid name and wandered to the store next to it to find a nice long frilly black dress. Wednesdays eyes were glued onto the dress and Enid could already tell what she was thinking.
"The Theme is white and silver but you already know that's not gonna fly with us" Enid chuckles and pulls Wednesday inside the store and pulls it off the rack and shoves Wednesday inside the changing room. Wednesday brushes off herself before looking at the dress and puts it up to her body.
She never thought of herself deeply before. She always thought caring about her body too much would commit too the stupid stereo types that your body needs to be curvy for the male gaze but in this moment she felt nervous.
She brushes it off and throws the dress on and comes out for Enid to see. Enid's eyes sparkle looking at Wednesday.
"You look Perfect!" Wednesday almost chuckles at the comment and takes it back off and Enid treats her and pays for it and they split off to so their own thing. Wednesdays thing was to go talk to Sheriff Galpin on the Evidence she had already gathered from Xavier's Art Shack. So she walks straight in with no hesitation slamming the drawing onto his desk.

Wednesday looks him straight into the eyes "We both know theirs a monster out there, If were going to stop it, I think its time we put our differences aside and work together." She seems stern and serious but Sheriff Galpin believes nothing she just said.
"And this is your stake to deal you in?" He raises his eyebrows. Sheriff Galpin Compares the drawing to the photograph taken of the monster and pauses to think for a moment. "I'm sorry but you gotta do better then that. You got some nice detail though." He looks back at her
Wednesday almost wanted to punch him straight in his bald head, But she decides to save her strength. "I didn't draw it" she snarks back at him. She analyzes him deeply looking at him through his soul.
"Well I need to know who did." She knew he was a con of a dad and a pathetic excuse for a Sheriff but if she wanted to get into this murder case she needed to find more evidence
"Unless we exchanging intel then I'm not at liberty to say." The Sheriff looks out the window for a moment before look back at her and sighing
"Why would I share information on a ongoing murder to a high school student." The Sheriff leans back and cocks his eyebrow. He was getting on her nerves and she needed to be more persistent.
She started to get smart with him and raising her voice
"Because I go to nevermore and you don't. Don't you want some eyes and ears behind those ivy covered walls?" Wednesday lifts her brows a bit as Sheriff Galpin sighs and rolls his chair closer to his desk.
"Listen Velma, why don't you and the Scooby gang stick to doing homework and let the professionals handle it." His phone on the desk began to ring interrupting their conversation as he picks it up. He groans on the phone and Wednesday takes this as her time to go. She walks halfway out the door before he calls for her.
"Hey Addams... Let me see that sketch again" Without a reply she hands it to him "The person who drew this. Are they your suspect?" Wednesday gives him a nod. "Give me some concrete evidence and then we can talk" Sheriff Galpin hands Wednesday the sketch back. Wednesday knew what she had to do next. So she leaves and starts walking back to the bus stop before she bumps into someone.

Tyler Galpin.
Tyler was a nice guy. He offered to help her escape so he wasn't a threat in her books. "Don't wanna ask what trouble you're in now." Wednesday know Tyler underestimates her
"Nothing I cant handle. Your father is in a particular frustrating form today. Avoid."
Tyler groans "Yeah, Welcome to my world." He pauses for a moment "You guys have the Raven Tomorrow, right? It was all the buzz at the weathervane today." Wednesday Rolls her eyes and just looks down
"I must be the only one not obsessed with these stupid dances" She lets out a puff clearly agitated from even having to go to the dance in the first place.
Tyler lowers his voice
"So your not going?" Wednesday looked back to his eyes
"Actually I was forced to ask someone as a act of self-preservation.." She almost gets hot from the feeling of having to hold hands with Xavier at the dance. She surely wouldn't let him right? Tyler seems confused and a little heartbroken.
"That happens I guess..? So whos the lucky guy.. or girl." Wednesday doesn't even wanna look into his eyes so she glances everywhere else before going back to his eyes.
"Xavier" She Responds but as soon as she does she watches the emotion pore into his face
"Got it..... I hope you two have fun" Wednesday watches him walk away but she doesn't seem to care enough to stop him so she walks away herself. She walks back to her dorms waiting for the evidence to come where she can prove Xavier's the monster.
