Chigiri hadn’t been on a lot of dates which was often a surprise to those who knew him, but this time he was practically buzzing with excitement for his date tomorrow with Kunigami. It had been so long since he found himself genuinely interested in any one, and while Kunigami seemed like a rather boring person to him at first, Chigiri found the way he kept giving him gifts to be quite endearing.
When it first happened, and Kunigami gave him his lunch, Chigiri just assumed it was because Kunigami was a very nice person. That he just wanted to do something kind for someone else. But then Kunigami just kept giving him things, and everytime it was without the expectation of getting something in return. Chigiri had tried to hand back the water bottle that Kunigami gave to him, but even that would not make him fold.
The instance with the water bottle was the beginning of Chigiri seeing Kunigami in a new light. He noticed all sorts of interesting quirks about him after that time in the changing room. First was how terrible he was at taking compliments, and the second was how much he obviously loved when Chigiri touched him. He noticed it first when he had gently placed his hand under Kunigami’s chin, and stroked his cheek.
He had asked him on a date then, but the loving, glazed look in his eyes told Chigiri that Kunigami hadn’t been focusing on anything he said. He chuckled when he asked Kunigami if he had been listening, only to receive an oxymoronic reply. “Yeah, I’m listening…what did you say?” Kunigami had asked him.
Truly, there was something so charming about Kunigami that Chigiri wanted more of. Very few people stared at Chigiri with such open admiration, and a pure kind that wasn’t mired by how much they loved the way he looked. Kunigami never complimented Chigiri’s appearance when they spoke together, which Chigiri found a bit unusual at first considering it was something everyone did when they first met him. He’d even been nicknamed “princess” by the other Blue Lockers after his time here, yet that name never came out of Kunigami’s mouth once.
He did feel Kunigami’s eyes on him more than a few times, and especially while they ate lunch together quietly, but even then Chigiri felt that his gaze was different from others. He wanted to have those eyes on him once more.
Date night came faster than Chigiri had thought it would. They had practice with Kuon and it went as it always did with Chigiri and Kunigami deciding to practice together. Lunch also came, and thankfully Chigiri got his wish as Kunigami glanced down at him while they ate together. They had swapped meals again, and though Chigiri was growing a bit tired of curry, he still took the food anyway because it had come from Kunigami.
Time seemed to fly by the more Chigiri thought about the date. He had considered talking to Kunigami about the date during lunch, but when he looked around he noticed just how noisy and crowded the Blue Lock cafeteria got during the rush hour. Chigiri didn’t care if people knew he was interested in Kunigami romantically speaking, but the idea of others seeing Kunigami’s cute slightly flustered face when he teased him made Chigiri a bit uncomfortable. He was only able to be so open with his teasing at the point kiosk because nobody else but him could see the way Kunigami reacted.
So he decided he’d save all of his teases for the date, when they were alone and out of sight from any of the other Blue Lockers. Night soon came and with it came the opportunity for them to finally leave for their “day out of Blue Lock”. Though the day had officially ended, they had both agreed to wait for night to come so that they could go without the prying eyes of their teammates. Chigiri met Kunigami by the big, wide doors of the Blue Lock facilities entrance, now a darkened and shadowy hall with minimal light.
Kunigami stood by the doors, as he leisurely leaned against it, dressed out of his usual uniform. A halo of shimmering moonlight that shone from a square office window wrapped around the edges of his form. He was easy to spot amidst the gloom, and Chigiri walked straight to him with a warm smile. He had also dressed out of his uniform, though he noted how he had put much more effort into his appearance than Kunigami, who looked very casual. He had told Kunigami beforehand to wear “clothing you’d go to a festival in”, and they both ended up wearing kimonos.
“Hey, did I keep you waiting?” Chigiri said.
Kunigami shook his head, “No at all. You uh…” Kunigami coughed into his hand as he eyed Chigiri slowly. “You dressed nicely tonight.”
Chigiri chuckled softly, and walked past him towards the door. “Thank you.You don’t look too bad, yourself.” He glanced back at Kunigami who was busy inspecting his own outfit with a slight blush.
“Where are we going, anyways?” Kunigami asked him. “You wanted to pick, remember.”
“That’s right. You have no idea how long I spent last night thinking of places, but I finally settled on a date night! We’re going to a festival tonight.” Chigiri beamed widely at Kunigami.
“A festival…?” Kunigami’s eyes seemed to light up at the idea. “I haven’t been to one in ages! Not since I was a kid, at least…” Chigiri blinked at the drastic change Kunigami had taken now that he knew they were going to a festival. He stifled a laugh behind his hand.
“Well let’s get going then! There’s a special offer on takoyaki at this festival. You can get different flavors, and I want you to try all of them!” Chigiri took his hand, and dragged him away.
……………………………………………………………………………………
The festival was incredibly bright despite the dark, night sky above. Many people milled and walked about excitedly from different stalls and games that were on display. Chigiri wanted to try all of them, though he wasn’t sure just which game to go to first. Kunigami gazed at the sea of different attractions with wide eyed wonder. “There are so many games to play…it must be a festival for a great occasion.” Kunigami said as he scanned the area.
Chigiri chuckled softly, “It’s a seasonal festival. They throw it every year. I was afraid I’d miss it since I joined Blue Lock, but thanks to those points I could attend on time.” He gasped as he spotted a stand a few steps away, and eagerly grabbed Kunigami’s hand. “Oh! Let’s try this one, it has great prizes.” Kunigami followed close behind him, a small contented smile on his face as he felt the warmth of Chigiri’s hand in his own.
They went from booth to booth, checking out each game steadily. Most of them were a bit childish, though there were a few that were clearly there for tests of strength. Kunigami noticed Chigiri’s eyes gravitate more towards the stands that held soft, plushy prizes and an idea began to form in his mind as he went from each game.
As Chigiri played a dart game to try and win a small prize, Kunigami’s eyes drifted over to a brightly lit stand in the middle of the festival grounds. A man in an open chest robe with a large hammer in one hand waved his arms wildly to try and get people’s attention. It was a game that was a test of strength, and Kunigami spotted the large and very pink plush cat that sat next to the man. Chigiri beamed wide as he graciously took the plushy being handed to him as he finally threw the last dart.
“My luck’s been really good tonight!” Chigiri said, as he tucked the plushy away in a small tote bag. His eyes widened as he saw the cat plushy. He gravitated towards it slowly, with Kunigami trailing behind. “Welcome! Want to give the game a go?” The man with the hammer greeted Chigiri and Kunigami warmly.
Chigiri nodded eagerly, and took the hammer from the man, though he slumped a little as he took a hold of it. “I always try to beat this one, but I always end up falling short…” Chigiri lifted the hammer determinedly, with one defiant glance at the cat plushy.
Kunigami laughed, “It’s like you’re facing a challenger.” He remarked fondly. Kunigami stood back with crossed arms as he watched Chigiri. “Go ahead, maybe this year will be the year.”
Chigiri slammed the hammer down as hard as he could with a loud thump on the pressure plate, and watched with rapt attention as the weight shot upwards at a rapid pace. It zoomed high before falling back down, just out of reach of the bell at the top. The game attendant sighed, “Oh you were so close! Maybe next time.” He said as Chigiri dejectedly handed the hammer back.
Chigiri’s shoulders sagged a bit, as he walked away from the game. “Come on, maybe we can try a different one or something…” He said, scanning the area. He kept stealing longing glances at the prize by the weight game, despite his persistence to play something else.
Kunigami coughed into his fist as he looked back at the game. “I could get you the cat plushy…if you want it.” He offered.
Chigiri scoffed, “Oh please…Blue Lock points won’t work out here. And I doubt we could even buy any of these prizes…they all seem to need to be won.” Kunigami shook his head.
“No I mean…I’ll win that game, and get you the cat plushy. I haven’t really played anything yet, but…” Before Chigiri could say anything, Kunigami was already headed back to the man with the hammer. He took the hammer in hand, and looked at the stand from a few feet back. Chigiri had followed and watched closely with anticipation.
Kunigami raised the hammer and let it down as hard as he could. A resounding bell sounded out as the weight shot up and hit its mark. The game attendant stared at Kunigami with wide, impressed eyes. “Wow, no one has been able to beat it all night! Congrats, kid.” He patted Kunigami’s arm lightly as he handed the prize over to him with a smile. Chigiri hugged the plushy close to him with a large smile.
He threw his arms around Kunigami’s neck and placed a light kiss on his cheek very excitedly, before stepping away to admire the prize. For a short moment, nothing worked in Kunigami’s brain as he blinked once or twice at Chigiri. “Thanks so much! I’ve always wanted to win this game.” He hummed happily as he looked up at Kunigami with a large smile.
Kunigami blinked once more before he returned the smile, and nodded. “You’re welcome! Are there any other games you want to play? I can win more prizes for you.” He said as Chigiri pondered for a moment.
“Well…I do want more prizes. But don’t you think it’s a little unfair if you win all of them and don’t get anything in return?” He tilted his head at Kunigami with a thoughtful look.
“Oh, I guess you’re right. I don’t really care about the prizes though-” Kunigami was cut off with a snap of Chigiri’s fingers.
“I have an idea!” Chigiri had a mischievous look on his face that was quite new to Kunigami. “For every prize you win I’ll give you another kiss! How does that sound?” Kunigami stood there for a moment as he thought silently. Suddenly, he yanked Chigiri by the hand in the direction of another game, a new found determined look in his eyes.
“L-let’s try this one, then! I can definitely beat this game!” He said as he ushered Chigiri towards the next stall. Chigiri laughed softly as he followed close behind, his hand clasped tightly in Kunigami’s. To him, a kiss from a princess was better than any prize he could win.
