thus, the star fell for the moon

Summary:

"Expectation is the root of all heartache."
-William Shakespeare

From a distance, stars don't shine as bright as the sun, it merely glows, a faint twinkle, a glint, even. The sun, on the other hand, it beams, incandescent; passionate. However, The Moon, she sees The Star's flare, her brilliant glow—it made The Star believe that they had a special bond. Perhaps that's true. Unfortunately, the stars crossed.

Thus, The Star fell for The Moon.

Work Text:

The Star reminisces—no, not reminisce, not quite. This certain evocation leaves a bitter sentiment, perhaps, much more than bitterness; the star lost her own light, dim, faded.

It was not just one memory, but a series, a solitaire. Why solitaire? Those memories shone as bright as gems and diamonds, at least for The Star—though it left sorrow in the end.

Even after years, The Star is still in love with The Moon, her heart still flutters at the sight of her, always (though it also aches). Howbeit, there was one exception, the only sight of The Moon that made her heart wither, like the petals of roses that succumb, falling onto the parched soil:

The posy of moonflowers fell from The Star's firm grasp upon the sight of The Moon under The Sun's embrace, gazes locked on eachother, their gentle reflections in their eyes—oh so loving, oh The Star forlorns.

The Star's fragile heart shattered forthwith, witnessing The Moon in another's embrace. Starry fragments of tears beading down her cheeks, harboring such strong feelings.

Sorrow, the unfamiliar dart of despair, that's what it is.

The Star says to herself,

"I'm merely a star, I don't shine as bright as the sun."

From a distance, stars don't shine as bright as the sun, it merely glows, a faint twinkle, a glint, even. The sun, on the other hand, it beams, incandescent, passionate. However, The Moon, she sees The Star's flare, her brilliant glow—it made The Star believe that they had a special bond. Perhaps that's true. Unfortunately, the stars crossed.

The Moon once said to The Star,

"You shine brilliantly in my eyes," she cooed. "You shine brighter than any other."

That is one of The Star's cherished memories—but, The Moon lied. No matter what, the moon and sun are bound to love, intertwined by fate. As for the star, it shall die and lose its light.

As for now,

The Star has lost her light, her 'brilliant glow'.

A blanket of melancholy dawns upon the star as she harnesses the moonflowers to herself, the flowers that remind her of The Moon. Oh how she wanted to bestow her love to The Moon, even if it's the last.

Even until the flowers wither, her love for The Moon will never cease.
