Work Text:
The Christmas tree behind you illuminated the whole room, creating all kinds of patterns to the roof. A faint Christmas song played in the background, and you sat on the floor with your friend Sly - after he had lost his sight because of the sun and heat in Egypt, he had retired from being a thief and was now living a peaceful life with you. It was his first Christmas after getting back home - and you wanted to make it special.
“Here, I have a present for you”, you smiled and guided Sly’s hand on the package. “I have been working on this since you got back, you can imagine it was quite a big work.”
Sly slowly let his hands roam around the package and turned his head towards you. And though he didn’t see you, he knew you were still sitting there. “It feels like… a book.”
You giggled and helped him to find the ribbon which kept the package together. It was indeed a book, and Sly held it in his hands for a moment, before you laid your hand on his shoulder. “Open it.”
He did, and you guided his hand to the title.
“It’s Braille writing…” he muttered as his hand slowly went through the word, and tears slowly filled his eyes as he went forward. He opened his arms for you and you agreed to hug him - with you having tears in your eyes too.
You had studied and written the whole Thievius Raccoonus in Braille writing - and the result was just as you hoped. Sly was overjoyed - he thought he’d never get to read his ancestor’s writings again. But you had made it possible.
It was his first Christmas as blind - and his best Christmas yet.
