Work Text:
Not super important but I'm gonna put the character ages here.
Sonic: 21
Amy: 19
Cream: 13
Also the character "Ciel" that's mentioned in the story is one of my OCs just so you know ^^
Amy was tapping her fingers on her desk anxiously, waiting for a certain someone to return to Restoration HQ. Over the past few hours her tapping has become more and more obnoxious to the point where Cream finally intervenes. "Amy, I know you're trying to patiently wait for Sonic to return but could you please stop that tapping? I can't concentrate!"
Amy sits up in her chair and sighs, "sorry Cream, just getting a little antsy I guess. Ever since he left I haven't been out much except for coming here and going home." She looked back at her phone, seeing if she'd gotten any texts indacating that Sonic was home, but it only showed the previous nights conversation. She closed the messages app and slumped back in her chair with disappointment.
"Why don't you go out for a jog? Getting some fresh air might help keep you from worrying so much. Who knows, you might even catch Sonic while you're out." Cream said as she winked at her. Amy thought about it, but she had a lot of work to do here and didn't want to be irresponsible and leave it.
She sighed and shook her head, "I can't, I've got so much work to do and with Jewel being out sick I'll be doing it on my own." Cream crossed her arms and gave Amy a questioning look, "isn't that what I'm here for? I'm your apprentice, meaning you're training me to take your place one day, I've been in training for YEARS and you still think I can't handle being on my own?"
"What? No!" Amy said trying to explain herself, "I just...when I took the job as leader I had no experience whatsoever, I was constantly stressed and had a lot of panic attacks and sleepless nights. I want to make sure you won't go through the same thing, I don't want to dump everything onto your shoulders without giving you a chance to adjust." Amy took Cream by the shoulders gently and looked at her with a soft, apologetic look, "I just want your start to be better than mine, I know you're capable I'm just...worried."
Cream returned the apologetic smile and hugged Amy. Amy returned the hug and squeezed her tightly, giving her one of her signature bear hugs. They parted but still held onto each other's shoulders. "I know you're worried, and I guess that's what big sisters are supposed to do, but trust me when I say I'll be okay. If I do need any help with anything I could always ask Jewel or mother or call you, I know I won't be alone." Cream smiled, determined to take charge.
Amy was glad that she had this confidence in her, Cream was the kind of person that could take charge. She was caring and sweet but when business needed to be done she'd get it done. She was tough, just like Amy. In a lot of ways Cream took inspiration from Amy, but rather than wanting to live the high velocity, adventure lifestyle, she'd rather stay back at home where she knows she's close to her mother and all of her friends.
Amy thought a little test wouldn't hurt.
She sighed and smiled, "alright, I'll go out for a bit and leave you to it as a test. How does that sound?" Cream's eyes immediately lit up with stars, "REALLY?! You really mean it?!" Amy nodded her head. "Oh, thank you Amy! Thank you, thank you, thank you!" Cream jumped at Amy, giving her a tight hug.
When they separated, Cream hopped into Amy's swivel chair, ready to take charge already. Amy giggled at how eager she was and picked up her bag with her phone in it. She patted Cream on the shoulder, reassuring her, " if you need anything, don't hesitate to call, I'll always pick up."
"I know, don't worry. Have a nice jog! And if you see Sonic, tell him I said hi!" Cream said while looking over her shoulder at Amy. She began to walk away but looked behind her and waved, "I will!"
With that, Amy jogged to the bathroom to put her more action-apropriate clothes on and headed out of HQ.

It was beautiful outside today. Perfect Sonic thought. He was running through an open field of roses, picking only the best for his girlfriend. He's been gone for a week, nothing new since he goes on these outings of his quite a bit, but its always nice to come back home to find Amy. When he's out for this long, he begins to miss her presence, her sweet kisses and her soft hands holding his.
They weren't very public with their relationship and the most "intimate" they'd get in public is holding hands when no one's looking. They are very private with it but prefer it that way. They don't need to put on a show for the public, nor do they need an entire news team following them around trying to get the latest scoop on who the hero of Mobius, Sonic the Hedgehog, is dating.
They much prefer just being with each other, quiet moments alone, just holding each other are much sweeter than anything else. Thinking about it is making Sonic get even more antsy. He missed her and he was sure she was missing him. He wanted to just run straight to Restoration HQ and scoop her up into his arms and plant millions of little kisses all over her face and quills, but he had something to do first.
He'd been thinking about it for a while, they'd talked about it a bit but before, Amy was always worried about Cream not being able to handle leadership. He understood her worry and he too was a little cautious of letting Cream be on her own, but he saw how hard she worked, she was determined and that alone told him she was ready, and with that it'd finally be time for him and Amy to embark on a new adventure together.
He knew Amy had the same "live like the wind" spirit that he did, and from experience knew how awful it felt to be cooped up somewhere, not being able to be free, but he had an idea. He'd scoped out the jewelry store before he left on his trip, thinking he'd pick up the ring he picked on his way home. His plan was to propose, after they'd gotten engaged he'd convince her to follow him, to go on a long life adventure with him. They'd travel the world and help as many people as they could. They'd truly be free.
Sonic slowed his running and looked down at the roses in his hand. He'd gotten enough to make a bouquet, all roses a beautiful shade of red. This field in particular grew thornless roses, he made sure to get them without thorns so Amy wouldn't prick her delicate fingers on them. He'd made the mistake once when he was younger and even though Amy held no malice towards him for it and said it was okay, he still felt bad for it.
He took a ribbon he'd been holding in his quills and tied it in a bow around the bouquet, helping it stick together. "Now all I gotta do is get that ring and find Amy, which shouldn't be too hard." he said to himself as he took in the breeze.
Tucking the bouquet safely into his quills, he dashed off to the jewelry store to get the ring. It wasn't anything extravagant, just a simple gold band with some details of roses and thorny vines engraved on it, but in their conversations before about marriage and engagement they'd always said that they'd want something simple, Amy really didn't even want a gemstone on her ring, just a simple band would do.
This ring would serve as not only her engagement ring but also her wedding ring when they decided they were ready. Sonic was happy with the simplicity of it, but wanted the rose engravings as an extra sentimental bit.
"I'm here to pick up a ring for Sonic the Hedgehog." he said to the jeweler as he nonchalantly placed his elbow on the glass counter in front of him. The man behind the counter nodded and went to the back to fetch the ring, he returned with a dark brown wooden box, placing it on the glass counter in front of him and opening the lid. "This it?" he asked in a gruff sounding voice. "Yep!" Sonic replied.
Inside was the ring on a green plush cushion to keep it from getting damaged. "how does it look?" the jeweler asked. Sonic looked at it with wide sparkling eyes, "its perfect! Thank you!" Sonic dug into his quills and pulled out a bag of rings. He chucked the bag onto the counter and picked up the wooden box. The man inspected the bag, counting the rings. Once he was satisfied he waved to Sonic, "pleasure doin business with ya."
Sonic waved back and made his way out of the store. Now I just gotta find Amy.
(xXx)
Wow, it's really nice out today Amy thought while jogging down the sidewalk. It seemed like the perfect day to be outside, despite Autumn approaching soon it was still quite warm outside, but not so warm that you'd sweat. A perfect temperature.
It'd also be the perfect wether for a picnic, maybe once she found Sonic the two of them could go home, prepare a picnic, and head to their favorite spot to relax. It was a field of all different kinds of flowers, daisies, dandelions, pansies, poppies, a whole bunch of em too. There was a lake in the middle of the grove that, occasionally, she and Sonic would take a dip in, especially if it was a hot night. He was still a little hesitant with water but Amy's really helped him overcome a lot of his fear.
The place where they loved the most in the field was the edge of it, it ended in a tall cliffside that was the perfect spot for viewing the sunset and the beautiful night sky.
Amy was lost in her thoughts about the grove and didn't notice Sonic pass right by her, all she felt was the strong breeze and the force of the sudden wind almost made her hit the concrete but Sonic was quick enough to turn back and catch her before she fell.
"You okay?" he asked, looking her over to make sure he didn't hurt her or that she didn't scrape anything. She recognized his voice in an instant and instead of answering his question, she quickly pounced onto him in a tight, loving hug. He chuckled and returned the hug happily, taking in her scent which he always !missed when he left.
Amy parted from him slightly to get a good look at his face, "you didn't get hurt did you? No new scars or cuts that I'll have to doctor?" She forcefully looked over his face like a worried mother would and he placed his hands on hers to stop her, "I'm fine, really. I was only gone for a week!"
"Yeah, but you know how worried I get, I wish I could go with you instead of wait for you anxiously to come home." she said, her face displaying a sad frown.
Sonic knew after tonight, if she accepted his offer that is, she'd finally get to realize that desire of hers. She'll be free with him and they'll travel the whole world! They'll take out baddies and help people in need. Thinking about it got him excited, but he needed to wait, now wasn't the time for a proposal.
"Hey, cheer up Ames," he said whilst cupping her cheeks, "lets not think of the negative right now, I know you could probably use a relaxing night out so why don't we have dinner in our favorite spot?" he finished his sentence with a flirtatious facial expression, trying his best to entice her into going.
It didn't take much convincing though considering Amy was already thinking the same thing. She nodded her head vigorously giving Sonic a clear answer. "Alrighty then! Lets speed home to get some food, then we'll be on our way!"
It didn't take much convincing though considering Amy was already thinking the same thing. She nodded her head vigorously giving Sonic a clear answer. "Alrighty then! Lets speed home to get some food, then we'll be on our way!"
Sonic took Amy into his arms and held her bridal style, making Amy giggle despite always being held this way. She couldn't help that it made her heart flutter.
Sonic put one foot in front of the other and sped off to their home, leaving a blue trail behind them. Despite them not being very public about their relationship, they do live together and have for a few years. It wasn't even that weird to think about for them, it just felt natural to them. Their friends would tease them at first when they started dating and when they moved in together but it never bothered them, they'd just look at them weird.
The things they did with each other were like second nature, Sonic would kiss Amy on the head while she's working or Amy would crawl into Sonic's arms and he'd just hold her. They were as close as close can be and their prior friendship only strengthened their bond.
They both thought about how they are with each other and were so grateful to have one another. They were, as people might say, soul mates.
Stopping their train of thought, Sonic skidded to a halt when he reached their house. It wasn't a large house, only enough space for a living room, kitchen, bathroom, and a loft where the two of them slept. They didn't need a lot considering neither of them were home a lot, Amy busy with Restoration HQ and Sonic always out on a trip. The only extra thing in the home was a basement where they kept the exercise equipment and a small office for Amy when she wants to work from home.
There was a backyard with a garden but other than that, that's about it. It was quaint but they were content with it.
Amy hoped out of Sonic's arms and headed to the kitchen to prepare the picnic. While she was doing that, Sonic headed up into the loft. He made his way to the bed and looked it over. It was made and there was a large teddy bear sitting on his side of the bed. She usually slept with it when he wasn't home, it gave her a bit of comfort. He scooted the bear over and flopped down onto the bed, sinking into its softness.
As much as he loved running, he also loved coming home to a nice comfy bed. He wondered if they'd be able to keep the house if they went on that long adventure he was thinking about. He liked the home and didn't want to give it up, but if they'd be gone for months at a time, then who's gonna take care of it? The garden would wither and their belongings in the house would be covered in dust.
He thought maybe one of their friends could check up on the place once every week or so. They could pay them for it too. Maybe they could ask Ciel? She and Shadow have a hard time coming up with cash (G.U.N. does NOT pay as much as you'd think) and Ciel often has to scrounge around to find materials to make clothes with. If they paid her a lot to look over their house while they're gone, she'd be able to get more high end fabric and make more luxurious clothing! Not that the clothes she makes aren't already amazing, she's an awesome seamstress, she just might enjoy some nicer materials.
Amy had finished packing the food downstairs and walked up into the loft. Sonic had his eyes closed while thinking and slightly jumped when she sat on the bed next to him. She placed a hand on his chest and ruffled the fur there for a moment. "I got the picnic ready, you ready to go or do you wanna stay in bed and daydream?" she teased. He sat up and playfully shoved her for teasing him.
"What'd ya pack in the basket?" he asked while licking his lips. Amy moved the basket away from him before he could reach his hands in it, "ah ah ah, you have to wait till we get there." she said while wagging her finger in a "no" motion.
He sighed in defeat and stood up, Amy following soon after. "I wanna change my clothes before we go, do NOT take anything out of this basket, got it?" Amy said as she gave him the basket and made her way the their closet. "Okay, I promise." he said while walking downstairs.
Amy pulled out a loose pastel yellow sweater and a long brown skirt. It wasn't too formal but it was cozy. She made her way to the bathroom and changed, slipping on some black flats in the process. She put her hair in a bun and walked out of the bathroom.
Sonic was tapping his foot loudly, a sign of his impatience, and looked over to Amy. "Ready?" he asked, standing up from the couch. Amy nodded and they both walked to the door. Sonic handed Amy the basket back and took her into his arms again. After walking out and closing the door, they raced to the field.
(xXx)
When they arrived in the field, the sun was already beginning to set. They walked over to the cliffside and placed their picnic blanket down and sat. Amy had packed a couple of small pillows as well so they could look at the stars comfortably. They started unpacking the basket, there were sandwiches, chili dogs, a salad, and a strawberry shortcake placed on the blanket. Amy pulled out the plates and cutlery and the two of them enjoyed their dinner.
when they finished, they packed the basket back up with the dishes and set it aside, lying down together and watching the sun finally leave their view. It was dark now, only the moonlight illuminating the area. It was peaceful and quiet, just how they liked it.
Amy scooted closer to Sonic and hugged his side, resting her head on his chest. He began to run his hand up and down her back in a calm and soothing motion. They loved these quiet moments together, especially when in the past their lives could be very hectic.
Sonic begrudgingly pulled himself out of the calming trance, he had something he needed to do tonight. He was going to propose, he couldn't forget his plan. This was important for both of them and mainly could be Amy's ticket to freedom.
He was nervous, more nervous than he thought he'd be. Usually everything with them came naturally, but this was making him anxious. It's not like she'd say no, he didn't think that, he just worried he'd get too scared and say his proposal wrong like "Amy, marry you will me?" or "marry Amy me will you?" The thought of messing his words up was making him sweat and his heartbeat quicken.
Amy noticed his change in demeanor and sat up a little to look at his face. "Are you okay? You seem to be bothered about something." she asked in a worried tone. 'Nah, I'm good," he said, trying his best to act cool but failing, "I just think its a little hot out here, don't cha think?" he tugged at his red and white bandana around his neck.
Amy looked at him confusedly, "are you sure you're alright? It's really not that hot out here, in fact I think it's starting to get kinda nippy, let me see if you have a fever-" Sonic shot up and shook his hands, "no, no! I don't have a fever! Don't worry, I'm fine!"
Amy still didn't believe him but decided to drop it.
Stupid, stupid, stupid! Sonic thought, you already made a fool of yourself, keep it together man!
Cutting off his internal dialogue, Sonic decided to start working his way into the proposal. Small talk first.
"So Ames, how was HQ this week?" he said while lying back down. Amy shrugged, "same as it always is I guess, mundane paper work and stuff like that." "Ah, I see," Sonic replied while nodding his head slightly, "how's Jewel and Cream been?"
"Jewel's out with the flu and Cream's actually been doing pretty good with helping me, she actually asked me to give her a chance on her own so she's the one watching over HQ right now." Amy replied while staring up at the stars, "I was worried about letting her at first but she insisted that she'd be okay."
Sonic smiled, Amy had been really hesitant on giving Cream her freedom to take charge, that's what kept him from enacting his plan for so long, but Cream was a very capable kid and he knew she'd do great, especially with Amy's teaching and guidance over the past few years.
"I'm glad you're finally starting to loosen up with her, I think she's ready for the job." Sonic said, taking Amy's hand and gently squeezing it. Amy squeezed it back, "yeah, its just hard getting over my worries about it. I was really young when I started and as a result I had to learn everything on my own. Its given me some long lasting trauma, especially from when Eggman captured you and took over back in the war and when the metal virus broke out. I just didn't want her to suffer like I did."
Sonic gave her a sad, apologetic look. She had a lot of trauma, not just from what her Resistance/Restoration days but also from back when she was really young. He didn't think so at the time but the events on little planet, specifically Metal Sonic capturing her, had messed with her head more than he thought. He'd only learn about all of it after he moved in with her. She had a lot of sleepless nights due to night terrors, and every time he'd stay up with her and hold her as close to himself as he could, singing to her and calming her.
He gave her hand another squeeze, "don't worry, Cream's got one of the best teachers she could ever have, I know you've trained her right. She's ready to take leadership." Amy looked at him, "you really think so?" she asked. Sonic nodded his head.
Maybe she had been holding her back, it was a sister's job to be protective but was she smothering Cream? She took in a deep breath, finally accepting the fact, " you're right, she's old enough and experienced enough. Maybe...maybe its time for me to give her control."
Sonic could hear the tentative tone in her voice, she was still worried and he could tell, but once Cream started taking charge she'd see how capable she is. "If you do decide to retire as leader," he began, getting ready for his proposal, "I have an idea of what you could do instead."
Amy gave him a puzzled look, encouraging him to continue, "I've been thinking about it for a while actually, but I've been waiting for the right moment to ask," he sat up and rummaged around in his quills. He found the bouquet and the wooden box and pulled them out. Amy gasped, realizing what he was doing and waited with baited breath, "I wanna share my adventures with you instead of leaving you at home by yourself, Ames. I want you to experience the world with me, the sights, the sounds, the smells, the food, everything! And I know how much you've wanting to get out and do something different, my antsyness has kinda rubbed off on ya over the years," he chuckled a bit.
"I wanna take you with me, and I think we both know me and you are stuck to each other like glue, so," he gave Amy the bouquet and opened the wooden box in his hands, "would you come with me? Follow me to the ends of the earth and be mine forevermore? In other words, will you marry me Amelia Lynn Rose?" he finally said, letting out a breath he'd been holding.
Amy was teary eyed, they were never much for traditional relationship stuff and she honestly didn't think he'd propose like this but she couldn't help but feel the overwhelming happiness grow inside her. She lunged at him, hugging him tightly and burying her face in the crook of his neck.
"Yes! Of course I'll marry you! And I'd follow you no matter how dangerous or how high the stakes would get, I'm yours forever!" she said in a muffled voice, tears falling into Sonic's fur. Sonic hugged her back just as tightly and rubbed his head against hers. When they parted, Sonic kissed Amy sweetly. He then began to kiss away the stray tears on her cheeks till they were all gone.
They parted a little further and Sonic gestured towards Amy's right hand. She held it out for him and he took the ring out of its box and placed it on her ring finger. After it was on, she held her hand up and examined the ring. She gasped when she saw all the fine details, "Sonic, its so pretty, I love it." He gave her a sweet smile, glad that she liked it.
"So," Amy began, "how long will we wait to get married? Not that I'm saying we have to immediately, just wondering if you had a set time in mind." Sonic laid back down on the blanket and looked at the stars, "I mean, we could do it before we leave, I think Vector has a licence to do the official stuff and it can just be the two of us, your family, and the gang, Tails, Knux, Rouge, Cream, Shadow, Ciel, Whisper, Tangle, and Jewel, and of course since Vector would be there the rest of the Chaotix would too."
"It doesn't have to be anything grand, just our close friends and family and maybe have it outside. How does that sound to you?" Sonic said, finally looking to Amy. "Perfect." Amy replied with a smile as she nuzzled into his chest.
They laid there for a while, just loving each other's company. Amy let out a yawn which made Sonic wonder how late it was. He pulled his phone, which had a crack in the screen, out of his quils and checked the time. It was almost 11 pm and Sonic knew Amy probably had a tiring week and would need some rest.
He nudged her shoulder to get her attention, "hey Ames, its late, how about we go home and get some rest?" Amy looked up from his chest, having a sleepy look in her eyes, "mmm, yeah I think sleep sounds good." She stretched her arms as Sonic got up to gather their things. He handed the basket of stuff to Amy after he had helped her up and he took her into his arms again, "time to take my fiance home to get some shut eye," he said, liking the way calling Amy his 'fiance' rolled off his tongue.
Amy giggled at his comment and held on tight to him as he made his way back home.
They slept peacefully in each others embrace that night, dreaming of their future together.
